I really liked this movie as long as you don't compare it to the book it was really good with a lot of action and comedy. Truthfully I am glad they didn't stick to close to the book then you would have already known what was going to happen and there would have been no point in watching it at all. all in all I give it two thumbs up!

I thought the movie was good, but I have not read the book. I would recommend it to friends. My son, felt it was missing some key pieces and was not happy with the main character. Even with all of those criticism he still enjoyed watching it.

I am actually extremely disappointed with this film . The movie had absolutely nothing to do with the plot of the book. Several main characters such as Clarisse, Dionysus and Ares and major scenes were totally left out while new events were added that were either dull or not even correct by myth. And even the characters that were lucky enough to make it to the screen had totally different personalities which was a shame as well. All the movie showed was a bunch of kids who could swing a sword. I could go on and on but I'm just going to sum it up and say that I don't recommend you to see the movie, but urge you to read the book.

Good movie and your tweens will enjoy it. There are a few good comic reliefs strewn in there occassionally but maybe more character delevopment and better acting would make it more believable.

I took my 12 year old daughter to see this movie. She really wanted to see I was like ok. To my surprise I was on the edge of my seat. As a parent of a certain age I remember the back in the day Greek God movies like Hercules. It is a great twist for a present day Greek mythology. I loved the movie I would like to say I like it better than the Harry Potter Movie and I am a Harry Potter fan to the end.
It is a great family movie and it didn't even seem like the movie was 2 hours long a must see movie and when it comes out on DVD make it part of your movie collection.

A family of a 1 year old, 8 year old and 11 year old enjoyed it. Well as much as a 1 year old could. The graphics were impressive. Chris Columbus out did himself with them. I haven't read the books, but it has inspired my 11 year old to read them. :) I enjoyed that they stayed much closer to the real myths of the Olympian gods than Disney did. If the rest of the series are made, we will be seeing them.

After seeing this movie, I was really shocked how much seemed to have been taken from The Clash of the Titans, albeit, it is a common story embedded in mythos. My nine-year-old would give it a five and a half stars and would now like to read the books which is a bonus.

Reminiscent of Clash of the Titans, which itself is based on a old Greek legend, Percy Jackson stands in the shoes of Perseus of old battling forces greater than himself with little or no help from his Divine parentage (but with some assistance from other legendary beings and Demi-Gods).
Whether it was the adaptation of the original story to the big screen, or the original author's failing, the plot reveals (or at least strongly implies) the identity of the Lightning Thief by the end of the second act.
Worth the price of admission.

Took our four kids& they really enjoyed it. There is no sexual content &as a parent I was thoroughly pleased w/ the content of the movie.It had a great story line& really gets kids into reading a little about Mythology.I know some religious families may not agree w/ the reference to the gods &encouraging the subject of Mythology but I believe it is good to be well rounded& learn all subjects.I say this because some of my baptist friends are against this movie.I think education of all cultures &beliefs is important to understanding diversity in our nation.It's a good movie &we enjoyed it. My boys and I absolutely enjoyed this movie! My boys read the books and looked forward to the movie; they both said that it did not disappoint! The mythology and modern references were great and the story really flowed. The acting was also engaging with Pierce Brosnan in another role where he gave his all (very under-rated actor). The kids in our group really enjoyed this movie. It was very different, and much more simplistic, than the book, and some of the characters were miscast (Annabeth is supposed to be blond and brainy, not brawny). However, Percy an Grover were likable and fun to watch, and the Greek mythology monsters were scary and interesting. Overall, fun to see.

My daughter was dying to see it after reading the entire series, so we made it a special event to celebrate her 10th birthday. I haven't read the books, so had a different perspective. It was ok, not something that I would watch again, as all of the action was pretty much in all of the previews, and the story line was thin, at best. My daughter and one of her friends did not like how butchered the storyline was in comparison to the books, and were actually sorely disappointed. Something that will be ok to watch when it comes on dvd and you can get at a Redbox, so you don't pay too much!

The only reason we went to this movie was to AVOID having to sit through Valentine's Day. My daughter's friend had already seen it and couldn't stop talking about it and her subsequent obsession with Greek Mythology. Hey, what's $48 (for 4 people) in a recession, not including the $40 bag of popcorn? Both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised that we actually enjoyed a kids' movie. After the Alvin and the Chipmunks Squeekwel (can I scream now?) I thought I'd never see another G movie again. This too-long-of-a-title-movie was an adventure, and also taught the viewer about the grumpy Greek Gods. My only bad comment is that they should have named it, The Lightening Thief and left it at that.

This is a fun movie--My 12 and 9 year old boys loved it. But it's not Harry Potter. I was surprised that the quality of Chris Columbus' work did not compare to his Harry Potter movies. What a fun and entertaining movie! It was so fun to see these colossal figures brought to life on the screen. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many "big name", seasoned actors taking different roles than usual. It was as if in their sesaoned years they are finally able to "let go" of being type-cast. The script then made room for the younger, up-coming generation of actors. Just as casting made room for the young actors to work with, and undoubtedly receive coaching from, accomplished actors; so the Greek gods of the film made room for the younger generation to grow and carry on a righted tradition of being demi-gods.
Action packed; great believable creatures; and just overall tons of fun for everyone!

This could quite possibly be the worst movie of the year. Kids will like it I'm sure, but purist of the book will find it difficult to ignore the butchering of what was (in the book) a fun and interesting take on modern mythology. With all of the fun stripped away from the script, what was left was difficult to describe and certainly impossible to enjoy.

This movie is a lot of fun, though as many reviewers pointed out, does not stay true to the book. CAUTION: some reviewers are saying it is "great for children." There are a lot of fighting scenes and plenty of big, scary monsters done up in very realistic Hollywood style. Small children will be scared to death. For older kids and grownups, it's a great movie with a lot of action. See it. Then read the book!

The movie was wonderful! My 11 yr old said, "It was the best movie I have ever seen. I might have to watch it a second time." I have read all of the books and notice some differences between the movie and the books - but still loved every moment of the film.

Percy Jackson and The Lightning Theif is okay. If you were expecting anything like the book, then I am sorry to have to tell you this, but it's not really like the movie at all. I might recommend it to someone who hasn't read the books, but if you have read the books, then I can almost guarantee that you are going to be disappointed. Some of the movie is from the book, but it doesn't explain a lot, and it skips past a lot of vital points in the books. I am sorry to say that I would not recommend this movie to anyone.
