As a teacher, I loved it because it just proves how much better books are than movies. Rick Riordan wrote a descriptive adventure filled with Greek mythological connections. The movie left so so many of those out. The movie was weak in its depth and the dialogue simple. Read the book! Tomorrow I'm reading the sequel, Sea of Monsters, aloud to my first grader.

The only explanation for what went wrong with this movie is that Rick Riordan didnt read the script before he signed over the rights to his book. It seemed the only thing that stayed faithful to the original storyline were the character's names. As good of a job as Chris Columbus did following the story for the first 2 Harry Potter movies I was very disappointed to see how far he strayed from the story of Percy Jackson. Way to leave out important characters and events..

My three teenagers all liked it. Nice effects, typical teenage storyline. Personally, I'm disappointed with Chris Columbus. Too many times the dialog was absurdly simple-minded--along the lines of a Scooby-Doo cartoon. Often, the characters' reactions were mind-boggling. You're told that you're a demi-god and it never occurs to you to ASK who your father is? You're just going to follow along until you pick up a trident, and figure it out for yourself? I've been to worse kids' movies, so I don't mean to be too critical. I was just hoping for more.

Went with my 3 boys 7, 10, 12 and they all loved it. Even though it was a long movie, it didn't lose my interest. Yes, some of the story line is predictable. But they kept it interesting for all of us. No Oscar performances here, but just a good entertaining movie.

We say this movie with our kids, 8 and 10. The movie follows the book fairly closely and my kids enjoyed the action sequences and overall story telling. There are some scary sccenes that may be too much for younger viewers.

I read the books and was disappointed in the movie. So many things were different from what I read. I understand that not all the things in the book could be in the movie, but did it have to be so different? For someone who hasn't read the books, they would probably enjoy it. My entire household read and love the book series. Even with the changes, we enjoyed the movie very much. There were changes from the book, but most of the events are still in the movie - Percy's school/home, Camp, Auntie Em's, Lotus Casino, Hollywood, and the main characters are there. We all liked the movie so much that we've seen it twice and plan to see it again. The cast is great. Logan Lerman is perfect as Percy.

I took 20 fifth graders to see this movie after having read the book together. Not only was I disappointed (27 year old adult) but they were as well. If you read the book this is the same movie by title only and loosely by plot. They pretty much made up their own story. On the positive 20 fifth graders left the movie saying that the books were better. Small successes!

I did not read the book before I saw the movie. This movie was too Harry Potter-ish for me. The kid needs to save the world in 10 days, so lets train for it. In 10 days? Then he gets his butt kicked by a girl and now he’s ready to save the world. PFF whatever. Now my wife and best friend who did read the book are pissed. Not only did they want their money back they wanted 2 hours of their lives back. Apparently the movie is nothing like the book and the author sold out just to make a quick buck it appears. My son and I are fans of the book series, and had really high hopes for this movie. We would have had no problem with the details of the book being changed; in fact, we expected that. Not having my children read the books, I was unfamiliar with the story. So as a stand alone movie, I thought it did quite well. My 14 yr old daughter wanted to see it while my 13 yr old son thought it looked too kiddy for his "maturing" taste. I enticed them with the fork & screen theater and we all had a blast. My son turned to me part way through the movie and said how good it was and he would definitely see it again with friends. Of course my daughter has said the same. Very good for the family!

I read this book to my 4th grade class and they were very excited to go see the movie after hearing the book. The movie is different, but still is very enjoyable. They all came back and said what was left out. Still good, but of course the book is better.

I thought the movie was pretty good. There were parts that were seen in commercials that were not in the movie. My kids loved the movie and each of them have read the books.

While not sticking perfectly to the book, this is still an exciting introduction for kids who might never have otherwise learned anything about mythology. I can't wait to see what they do with the remaining four books. I would leave kids who are 7 and under at home, unless they're very adventurous.
