Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning thief was a good movie, film wise. The effects were great, and the action was incredible. But the plot scarcely showed that of the books', and that to me was disappointing.

LOVED IT!! At first i was a little disappointed when they changed the plot up but after the movie i was thinking to myself "they did pretty good for rewriting the book" and logan lerman was of course the hottest thing ever, overall. . .amazing :)

If you go into the movie expecting a faithful recreation of the book, you will be disappointed. That being said, I forgave the screenwriter and enjoyed myself at this movie. It is a movie that families of all ages will enjoy.

Like another reviewer said, if you are a fan of the book and have read it , then I think the movie never lives up to it... So you have to view it for what it was.. I have not read the book and I thought the movie was excellent. I took my kids to see it, 10 and 5 and they enjoyed it as well. It was a good story and had me roped into the movie in just a few mins. I actually want to read the book now. If you like greek mythology , like my 10 yr old is learning in school now, you will find this amusing.

I've been waiting to see this movie since last June, as I'm a huge fan of the books. When the movie first started, I was a bit disheartened...for devout followers of the book, it veers a lot from it, so be warned. However, the action was quick, sharp, and it was well-cast, with wonderful special effects for the first installment in a franchise. I fell in love with Brandon T. Jackson [Grover] and Logan Lerman [Percy], despite the fact that this Percy is a bit different than the actual hero in the book. However, LOVED this movie! I would highly recommend this clever and creative story from ten-year-olds to parents. My friends and I can't stop quoting it!

This was a really good movie as it is. If you have just read the book you may be disappointed as it does not follow it completely. Even though I read it 3 years ago I vaguely rememebred the plot and it was fairly close. However 2 things disappointed me. The movie was directed by the same person who directed teh 1st 2 Harry Potter Movies and as they were very close to the book I expected this to be too. Secondly, the bit Iwas looking forward to the most was the Gateway arch scene which was replaced with another scenario. However, apart from that the movie was really enjoyable

I took my kids to this movie not knowing that much about it. My son, 9, has read all the books and told me "We HAVE to go see it." I was so sucked in to the story in the first 10 minutes. I loved it! My daughter loved it too (she didn't know the story either). Cool special effects, pretty good acting, really clever...I want to read the books myself now. Have to see what happens next. Go see it!

I went to the midnight premiere of this movie, and as a fan of the books, I was expecting this movie to be right along the lines of it. It wasn't. It changed many parts in the book, but I came out of the theater happy and joyful. The graphics were great, the casting (despite them being older and not exacting like the book) was great, and it kept me awake even though it was midnight. The thing is - the book is great, and the movie is great. But they aren't the same greatness. They are both amazing in their own ways. So fans of the book I would go see it! and for people who haven't read it - Go see it!

My son LOVED the movie and thought it was great. I hope there is a second go-around of the series, with more emphasis on respecting the book's specifics.
The movie could have taken out a lot of the suggestive material, and added more intense graphics. They spent more time on camp fight scenes, than adding other story specifics from the book.
Still...not a waste of a ticket and worth the money of entertainment in a theater.

I saw this movie at midnight so I was kind of tired but when the movie started I immediately woke up. It was very interesting and exciting with suspense. Although it was only slightly like the book, it was a very good movie. Plus, if it were exactly like the book, you would know what was coming and it wouldn't be that exciting. It hardly resembles the book at all. For someone who has not read the books this movie will be a great one to see and it will be enjoyed. It is very entertaining. For the person that has read the book, it is a disappointment. This could have been a new franchise like Harry Potter but this movie, while good, was not carried to it's full potential. This was a spectacular movie. For once I was not feeling that I wasted my money!!!!

:) first, i have never read any of the books - so my expectations were primarily based on the previews that i'd seen. the line wasn't as full as i'd anticipated for a midnight show (three different midnight shows were playing at that theater - four if you count avatar) and it was a school night... poor release schedule maybe. however, i did enjoy the movie and :) some of the actors portraying some of the characters :) maybe it didn't need to be so violent in some parts? but if they have a sequel, i would see that. :)

I went to the midnight showing with my nephews, his friends, my sister and my wife. The kids were so enthralled with the movie, that I was able to eat all most of their gummy bears! Percy was great, the action and effects were very cool and fast paced. The scenery and acting was awesome. I am going to see again on Sunday!

They butchered my book! I can't believe that they had to go out of their way to create a competely different plot that had nothing to do with the most incredible book. They omited characters who are extremely vital to the book, left out key things that will affect the seriers immensly. Chris Columbus had such great material to work with and he had to go and change it for what? A bad movie in the making. I will not tell any of my friends to go see it and if they make another one of these movies I probably won't see it. The only thing that this movie had in common with the book is the title, and some of the characters. I just can't believe that they did this.
