I love the concept of telling the tales of the Greek gods. This was an excellent movie that really brought them to life in a modern-day context. My 10-year old has read all the books, and said that the movie missed out big chunks from the book, and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was long, so could not include all the detail of the book. It dealt beautifully with the storyline it took. Visually stunning. Loved Pierce Brosnan, nice to see him age gracefully, and cast in a brand new role. Loved Poseidon, great actor, always such a heartfelt performance.

I was a bit disappointed by this movie. Percy's character was so well developed in the book and you got to see why the children disliked their godly parents. I would have liked to see Percy struggle a little more trying to figure out who his father was. Also, the way in which the camp was described is nothing like how the movie portrays the camp to be. In the book there are 12 cabins all right next to each other in an order, but in the movie there scattered all over. I think the author should have kept the writers on track more than he did. The cinematography was spectacular.

I thought this was an excellent family movie. The plot was suspenseful enough to keep me and the kids guessing. I hadn't read the books, but my kids had, and thought the movie wasn't as good as the books. If that's true, the books must be awesome. The only flaw was the presence of some characters in modern times who were killed off in the ancient myths. This makes for an interesting plot twist in this story, but detracts from the "the ancient myths are real" basis of the story.

I had not heard of this series prior to the movie promos. Upon wiki'ing it, it looked like an excellent opportunity for a kid-friendly movie as well as a chance to introduce my son to Greek mythology.
After viewing, I feel the same way. Decent for the adults, with a few innuendos (suitable for teens per the heroes), and very little to scare a 7 y/o who loves Transformers and LotR. He now wants to read the books. I hope they make the others in the series.
Only complaint would be that the...out-world challenges Percy has would be touched on - is it specific to him, or an issue for other demigods as well? Only b/c many children have similar challenges.

A truly entertaining film. Transforms you for two hours into a land of greek methology. This movie was awesome! Packed full of action!!! A movie for the whole family over 10 that is. There are some pretty scary characters for the younger children. We will be seeing it again!

I have read all the books & surprisingly the film compared well with the written word, which all too often is not the case. Logan plays the part well, but is a little overshadowed by Alexandra's battle stare which matches Uma's in scariness ! My son is a huge fan of the books, and I read the first one - upon which this movie is "based". The term "based" is used very loosely - major portions of the book have been rewritten, scenes changed, major characters deleted - one of my favorites from the book, Aries, was nowhere to be seen. The plot is completely different from the book, and falls somewhat flat. The next "Harry Potter" this is not, in those movies they tried very hard to follow the book, but in this one it seems the writers changed it for no apparent reason. If you're a fan of the book, be ready for a shock. If you're not, I don't think this mediocre attempt will make you one. Sad, so much potential.

My kids had read the books and we were very excited to see the movie. The content could have been depicted in a cheesy way but it is not. This is a great movie and the topic of greek mythology was handled very well. This is one that we will return to see again!!

I saw this movie with my children, ages 17, 15, and 8. The movie was entertaining and fast paced. I couldn't believe I spent a couple hours in it! It may loosely follow the book (but how often do movies really adequately mirror the written word?) but it is extremely entertaining and a must see for those who love mythology. The quests, the characters, and the special effects are worth the view. Thurman is a stunningly cunning and effective Medusa, McKidd a fabulous Poseidon, and Hades and Dawson as Persephone wickedly comical. The tale is an enchanting relief from talking animals and cartoons. Well worth the time!

My friends and I took our kids to see it and they loved! We all read the books and even though the movie is missing big chunks of the story including Aries, we loved it and would recommend it! Loosely followed the book, but the movie was still a good view. My entire family enjoyed it, even those who were not familiar with the series. A few great scenes from the story are excluded, but be sure to stay past the credits to see one fun scene from the end of the book. We almost missed it and it was worth the wait!

What a disappointment! There were so many stars in this movie who either overacted or underacted. The story could have been so much better if the producers didn't rely on stereotypical characters and plot devices. There were some parts that were unintentionally funny where I was laughing out loud. Clearly from the tone and direction of the movie the producers want to make a franchise as there are five books. My advice to producers that want to make sequels from book series: don't worry so much about the sequels if the first one stinks.

I took four kids between the ages of 9 and 11 to see this film. The 11 year olds are huge fans of the books. All of them enjoyed the film but my son (one of the 11 year olds) was disappointed that some of the major parts of the story were left out. Still worth seeing. Uma Thurman as Medusa can't be missed!

From my perspective, I could remember trying to learn this stuff in school and hating it; however, this forum helps to bring mythology a bit closer to home; I think it might be interesting to see how kids' test scores in this subject change.

I took my 8 year old niece who kept her eyes and ears covered through most of the movie. I think that the movie should have been rated pg13. Anyways, I enjoyed the movie but I only got to see half of the movie before we had to leave :( According to someone who read the book, it was good to see the movie after having read the book

Although I haven't read the book, based on the preview I was expecting a much better story. The effects are not impressive in such a weak story, and the fights look like choreographies from old, naive movies. The best part of it is Uma Thurman's head.

I went into this movie with expectations of something other than what I got, but came out happy with what I saw. A great blend of mythology and modern day action heroes made this a great movie for all ages. The lack of sex and gratuitous violence was very nice and unexpected. I would say Percy is an upcoming character we will enjoy for some time to come.

I loved the books!! HATED the movie! It wasn't even the same story. Don't bother! What a shame - it could have been amazing!
