I went to see this movie with my 9 year old daughter and my wife. We all enjoyed the movie very much. I had read the books, and my daughter is about to start. The books are great, and this movie changes a few things and leaves some things out. In spite of that, I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone. I agree that for children much younger than my 9 year old, this movie might have been a bit much, but nobody was running out of the theatre. Also, I don't feel the Medusa scene was too long. It was a 2 hour movie, so they needed to give Medusa her fair time, as they chose to leave out some other things. Looking forward to future movies from this series!

I would recommend this movie because it was close to the book and it was action packed. Some important parts of the book were left out but overall I loved it. Definitely pleased an excited 8 year old who had been waiting for it to come out.

Our group included 2 very eager 10 year-olds who had read every page of the books as well as 4 others who had also. Knowing how hard it is to adapt a book to a movie however, I think the author should still be pleased with the outcome. I really like the casting choices for just about every part in the movie. The 3 main actors were VERY good choices and did their jobs well. The special effects were well done - I love Pierce Brosnan as a centaur! I don't think this movie will garner the enthusiasm enjoyed by Harry Potter series but no one could have predicted that either! TLT is a good story and a well done movie. I'd not take very young kids but all other ages would find it enjoyable.

Two of the four of us who saw the movie had read the book. All four of us absolutely loved the movie. It did not follow the book as well as I would have preferred but the changes made sense for the time and audience of the movie. Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman are fantastic. The casting of Percy, Anabeth, and Grover fits the characters very well once you change the characters from middle school to late high school.
Best statement I can make: none of us thought we were in the theater for 2 hours since we were so engrossed in the story.

I took my 8 year-old son (who had listened to the book on CDs with me) and my 11-year old daughter who read the whole series. We enjoyed the movie, however, as it often the case, we all agreed that the book was MUCH better. In adapting the movie they changed the characters (the kids are are older, Annabeth isn't nearly as important as she is in the book, the battered mom situation doesn't exist), changed a lot of the story and omitted a lot of elements from the book (no Aries, no stolen helm of Darkness,among other things). There is also a lot of sexual innuendo, from the longings of the (now) teens, to the character of Persephone (which I don't think was in the book). So if that's a concern for you, be aware of it.

We went to see this movie with my 11 year old son. He has read the entire Percy Jackson series and loves the books. We loved this movie. It was very entertaining and age appropriate for an 11 year old. Even us old people (the parents) enjoyed it. We took our 2 eighth graders to see the movie. One had read the books the other had not. Overall it is a good movie to go to. Not for younger kids at all, as it really should have been rated PG 13. I couldn't tell sometimes if the kids in the movie where middle schoolers or college level, as it jumps from some adult story lines, to cheesy movie kid scenes. Overall My kids really liked it, but there always has to be a view scenes that send some borderline messages. Medussa's scene is too long and younger kids where screaming and parents were running to get them out of the theatre.

The movie is never as good as the book, but read the book after you see the movie. I still liked this one alot though. The underworld was my favorite with great special effects. Medusa was really well done too but the control Percy had over the water in his fight with Luke was a bit over the top. All in all, Rick Riordan you can be proud of this one and I hope the rest of the series will follow.

My 8 year old and I have read the books, so we were pretty excited for the show. The special effects were pretty good. They strayed from the book as far as location and story line (making it more predictble), but it was still enjoyable. Would NOT recommend for younger children (the little girl stitting in out row said "ths is going to give me nightmares" shortly after the show began).

I understand that with most book-to-film adaptations there is a slight deviation from the original author's work. You just can't fit everything that's in a book into a movie. This movie, however, is way off! My wife and I wondered if the screenwriter had even read the book. It's like he just took Riordan's characters and made up his own story, which was sub par by far. The story wasn't the only thing that was lacking. We weren't sure if it was the acting, the editing, the music, or a combination of them all, but it just didn't have what it takes to be a true blockbuster. We had high hopes for this movie. We were sorely disappointed.

My 2 children and myself loved the movie. My son, was so into it, he was sitting on the edge of the seat the entire time. The kids read the book last year and I read it once we saw the movie previews. Although the movie makes some slight changes from the book, we thoroughly enjoyed it. When changing from book to screenplay, some things must be left out or even changed. But this movie's changes are inexplicable. The movie opts out of everything that made the book great, from the author's unique sense of humor, to the slight tension of romantic interest, to the protagonist's (and everyone else's) frustration at not knowing who he is. The movie just gives things away too fast. Major characters and essential elements of the plot are just tossed out, leaving the movie so different from the book as to be almost unrecognizable.
They did do a good job with the special effects. If you don't want to bother with the story, but just want to see some cool creatures and stuff, then I suppose this movie is for you. I expected more.

My 15-year old son and I, his mother, have read all the books and enjoyed them. The movie was "okay" but not really great. If you've read the books, you'd probably enjoy it. However, the actual scenery, sets, and other "movie" details were very well done. The best character, for us, was Groover. We thought Percy looked like "Troy" from High School Musical!

Adults looking for a thick plot will be disappointed as there is thin character development and it is really predictable. However, the kids really liked the quick action and straightforward storyline.

Having read and enjoyed the entire "Percy Jackson" series of books, our family had been eagerly anticipating this movie for many months. What a disappointment!
I cannot recall the last time I was so discouraged by the film adaptation of a book. Some of the best characters in the first book never make it to the screen (e.g., Ares), The great plot twists in the novel are butchered in the screenplay, if not tossed aside completely. Aside from Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Joe Pantoliano, and Brandon Jackson, the casting is questionable at best.
If you haven't read the books, you may like it. Otherwise...skip it and relish the magic of the printed word.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Good movie but not as good as the book! If you haven't read the books with your kids, I recommend you do. Good movie, my son enjoyed it!

I hav read the book and I know that the movie never follows the book but they made new scenes that would have never taken place in the book probably because it would cost more but they always did that to the key parts of the book that makes it so special and a must see! but it ended quicker than i thought i should be mabey the next movie will be better but i dont have high hopes it will my expectation should have been 8/10 but sadly to me 4/10.

I would recommend this movie. Lots of action. Good story line. Kept us all entertained. People left and didn't see the very end after the credits. Don't leave too soon.
