This is the second movie I've seen this summer that has been influenced by classic Hitchcock -- and can stand on its own. (First is "Tell No One.") The actors are excellent, scenery great, and tension -- until somewhat anti-climactic end--vintage Hitchcock. Forget "plausibility" and "manipulative" criticisms--it's a movie! Entertainment IS implausible and manipulative, especially on the big screen.

All of the performances were great but they weren't good enough to rescue this film. It suffered from some serious plausibility problems which i can't disclose without spoiling the movie for potential viewers. The pace was uneven and, despite some good local color in Siberia, the violence and chase scenes escalated to a level typically reserved for American action movies. If you are looking for an offbeat, edgy foreign thriller, this is not quite it.

I went out of my way to see this film in the theater and I was not disappointed. The acting was superb and the characters were very believable (I have traveled with these sorts before). The plots has lots of twists and turns. As for the intense scenes of violence, they were certainly disturbing as intended. What makes this movie so good is the way it builds suspense... almost remotely similar to the great directors of the past. I know it is not saying much, but it is easily the best movie of the summer w/ Batman.

The actors are good and you want this to be a great movie, but problems with the plot leave you feeling disappointed. I didn't find certain character elements believable or consistent, and some of the story seemed to unfold more for storytelling convenience rather than what was belivable or true to a particular character. And, the torture scenes are nearly impossible to watch! Overall, it wasn't good enough to satisfy.

Well-drawn characters, beautiful scenery, slice of Russian life, suspense, this film has it all. A young American couple travelling in Russia meets another couple, and the wife (Emily Mortimer) gets into serious trouble. Ben Kingsley is excellent as a good guy who's not quite as good as we thought.

great film--beautifully shot and edited; engagingly paced and acted; even the music and sounds were dramatic. I really was absorbed--if only it didn't get so goofy trying to action up the ending...but certainly worth watching.

This is a fantastic film. From the plot, dialogue, acting, direction and the photography. Refreshing if you are as tired as I am from all the schlock this summer. Never seemed long or boring. From beginning to end - great!

I would call this one of the best movie experiences in decades! The plot twists and turns and the unexpected happens. The scenery and settings are real and powerful. A previous reviewer said it was Hitchcock-like and that is absolutely correct. It starts with hints and builds and carries you until you are in the scene itself....people in the theatre were jumping out of their seats at certain points. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery and adventure film. One gratuitous horror scene to which you can close your eyes is all that I would have taken out...but this is overall a real wow!!!!

After seeing the trailor on TV, my wife and I were excited to see Transsiberian on opening weekend, so we were shocked to find out it was only showing at two theaters in all of Manhattan. Nevertheless, we trekked out to see it and were not disappointed.
The setting really left us feeling as if we were transported into Siberia and the character development was to the point and didn't take anything away from the overall movie. At almost two hours, it didn't feel that long. The Hitchcock-esque suspense left us at the edge of our seats, even drawing a few genuine screams in the theater at one of the most telling moments. The torture scenes helped heighten that suspense without the the outright gore of the Saws and Hostels.
This film is highly recommended to anyone longing for the great suspense thriller that has been missing from theaters in recent years.

A brisk thriller, 'Transsiberian' carried my interest from the opening to the explosive finale. Woody Harrelson is believable as a yuppie on an adventure beyond his depth, and it's a pleasure to watch as Emily Mortimer squirms her way out of a tricky situation. Ben Kingsley walks a fine line between threatening and benevolent and does so gracefully. I'd see it again in a heartbeat.
