I am white, American, and in my 20's and this film really reminded me of how easily I can forget my vulnerability, my interdependence on community, and my gratitude for the ease of life circumstances that separates me from many of my brothers and sisters. I have read about Katrina, and even visited post Katrina, but this film opened my heart.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This story of Katrina from the inside is powerful, devastating, truthful, frightening, as well as endearing and hopeful. This documentary shows the events as they are taking place, the real people living in fear and their struggle to stay alive. They show us not only the indifference and lies of our government cloaked in false promises, but also the cruelty and terrorizing by our very own military. If you call yourself an aware or compassionate citizen this movie is a must. Bring your friends, family, and coworkers, and email everyone you know.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Original, moving, funny -- this is one of the GREAT docs. Against the backdrop of a bankrupt political system that left people to die -- the filmmakers tell a story of staggeringly inspiring human resilience. Kimberly Rivers Roberts is a contemporary American Anne Frank.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie allows you to identify with two people who weathered the storm in their home in the 9th Ward. It really shows you on a personal level how the government just left thousands of people behind to fend for themselves or die.
I strongly recommend that you buy advance tickets and see it this weekend. If it doesn't sell out all weekend at IFC it won't get much distribution nationally, and this is a film that should be shown nationwide.
It's also inspirational and relatively upbeat. The woman who did the filming during the storm is a pretty amazing person.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The debacle following Katrina helped redefine the Bush Administration for middle America. So re-engaging with that moment is especially important during this election season.
The first part of this film is reality - personal videotape of what it's like to be in the attic as the floodwaters intrude. The second is the reality of displaced 9th warders in their own words as they look to re-start their lives.
This is uplift as well as tragedy.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Unfortunately, the documentary is only showing in NYC and LA. I hope it has healthy video distribution, because it deserves to be seen by every American who cares about the future of the country. This is a devastating, inspiring, and important film.

At a time when media coverage of the Katrina crisis has ceased and with it, the public's attention and funding, this is an important reminder of the utter devastation of New Orleans and the selective neglect of the Bush administration. The movie reveals that entire segments of the US population have been deemed disposable on the basis of economic disadvantage.Horrifying dilemmas challenging the moral structures of government (do we release prisoners from jail or leave them to drown?) are sketched here, revealing the craven systems underlying public institutions - systems we've so far allowed to remain in place.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This doc. shows Katrina and its impact from the INSIDE, from the point of view of a woman who lived through it and filmed it. The characters are amazing, unforgettable. The government neglect is boggling. I'd say this is a movie that absolutely should not be missed.
