"Time for Americans to pull their heads out of the sand and understand why excessive government spending must be cut. This movie delivers some very disturbing economic news in a way that can be understood by most. I did feel that the movie was thrown together, however. Also, viewers must realize this picture was produced before the current meltdown. It failed to address this issue on a global scale other to say what countries held US notes. All in all it was a real education for those who are in the dark about how serious this problem is and how important it is for our leaders to stop doing what's popular and start doing what's right."

A must see film Date: August 31, 2008

"While the content is overwhelming, it is very important for Americans to know and begin to understand the truth. We can not continue to be an ignorant and blind society. This movie showed clearly how much we do not know about finances and how our government is running. As a baby boomer, I do not want to work a job until I am 70 years old and I do not want to be a greeter at Walmart. Financial education is the first step to financial freedom."

"This is a straight ahead indictment of fiscal "policy" of Congress and the President, as well as monetary policy of the Federal reserve, and breaks it down into simple easy to understand parts. We have a total lack of leadership that is heading our country into financial oblivion."

A Must See Documentary Movie Date: August 26, 2008
By Concerned from Washington, DC

"This documentary is an eye opener for every American. In a world where we want instant gratification, it's costing us our future. We need to educate ourselves about saving and planning for the future. We need to stop living on debt and save and invest so that we don't have to depend on someone or something else for our livelyhood. This documentary should be seen by everyone, young and old. It's time we reverse this terrible trend of spending what we don't have. The time is now to begin this change of attitude, mind, and change of heart."

IOUSA misses point Date: August 25, 2008
By eco101 from New York, NY

"IOUSA cites important problems but forgets to notice them: 1. Over half of revenues are from personal income tax, with a much smaller percentage from corporate taxes. Rich people get tax breaks, and corporations avoid taxes by off-shore mailboxes. 2. Social Security and Medicare are major loan sources to support deficit federal spending. 3. Unbalanced trade ignores domestic industry's decay and corporate outsourcing. Rebuild domestic industry, alternative energy and infrastructure. 4 Floating currency and unstable exchange rates are hyperinflationary. Set fixed currency exchange rates in collaboration with Russia, India, China. 5. Bailouts are hyperinflationary; protect banks and homeowners by federal bankruptcy proceedings."

"A movie every person should watch. The issue of debt, whether personal or governmental is a huge issue we need to focus on. That none of the politicians will touch this issue is an embarassment.
Also, the sense of entitlement that is so pervasive in our socirty is self destructive.
This is an apolitical movie with an excellent message.

Missing something Date: August 24, 2008
By waverley from Philadelphia,Pa

"The movie was interesting and had good content, with many good points. I was quite disappointed that "saving" was mentioned frequently, but no reference to gold or silver was mentioned even once. In my view, sound investment is crucial at this time and precious metals possess the credentials to substantiate their merit... (IN SOLID, PERSONALLY OWNED FORM) What good does saving do a person, if they get 4% interest while real inflation is roaring at about 13%. Be Prepared!"

Good into to the problem Date: August 24, 2008
By jeeper from Chicago

"Good movie. Intended as an intro for people not aware of the financial problems facing the US. Not much new info for those who have awakened to reality of US insolvency.
Movie needs to shed light on:
1. The role of the Federal Reserve in creating this situation.
2. The role of fiat currency in creating this situation.
3. Solutions to this problem (i.e. sound money (silver gold backed money)
4. What the US will look like in 20 years if we don't change course. (think Argentina or Germany in the 20s.

The movie partly blames Americans for spending too much and not saving, but this is the logical behavior to money that is lent cheaper than inflation.

"It's a great achievement to make a show about our debts seem so exciting, but it could have been edited more carefully. Remove the repetitive pictures of people walking down halls--they're a total waste of time. Put more emphasis on what can be done to get us out of this mess--this is limited to the last few minutes which, incidentally, are the best!"

"The story was well told and interesting without being sensationalized. I would have liked a little more discussion about what we can do to solve the four deficits we are facing, although there was some of that in the live panel discussion after the movie. Dave Walker is to be commended for taking up the task of sounding the alarm, and the sponsors, especially Agora Financial, for having the courage to produce this film."

"Well done on the difficult subject of economics. It entertains, and informs without dwelling too long on boring details. It gives the lessons of history graphically and perhaps moves a bit too fast through some parts, as I would have liked to absorb the information. A DVD would have allowed for a pause to discuss various points in a group situation. It should be shown in all high school economics, civics and history classes. The makeup of the audience was quite on in years to benefit from the movie, but definitely agreed with its content based on comments made by those around us. I look forward to promoting my fellow citizens viewing this movie. Thanks for a great attempt at educating us on the problem at hand."

Wake Up Call Date: August 23, 2008

"I.O.U.S.A. is a documentary that every citizen must see, especially those who personally subscribe to deficit spending. It reviews the economic situation of the US Federal Government, and it is one big fat Deficit. The graphic presentation of the inertia of the budget deficit since our country was founded is well presented and shows the the wide swings that can only lead to disaster. David Walker is depicted as a courageous man and the US's top accountant for almost 9 years. Most alarmingly shown was the trade deficit and Warren Buffet simplifies the ramifications of this problem. One needs to see it a few times to really understand all the concepts presented and internalize the problem and do something about it!"

"This movie should be seen by everyone with young children ;the legacy of debt we are pasing to the future generations is incredible.
The LIES from DC never stop. The saddest truth is our Leadership Deficit. The worst line is that ours is a great country.Compared to what? Other countries? Why don't we ask how we rate compared to the highest levels of education, health, morality? We are 36th in health care, not in the top 20 world- wide in education.

Wake up call - this is a must see Date: August 22, 2008

"This movie gives a great overview of what is happening to our country. The talk following the film fleshed out some of the points made in the movie. That discussion should be made available for people to see. Americans need to insist on getting themselves educated, healthy, out of debt and invested in their own future. We cannot rely on others to take care of us. Please go see this movie so you know what is happening in our country financially."

Well Worth Investing One's Time to See Date: August 22, 2008

"Exceptional! A rather financial neophyte, like me, was able to grasp and appreciate the very real truths being told.
Excellent inllustration of what happens when anyone or our Country is indebted to another: Whomever we owe controls us...whether personal finances or our tax dollars.
Save and stop borrowing. Simple concept. Steve Martin was great!
When the panelists spoke of the need for ciitizens to govern they needed to emphasize the need for informed involvement and not simply involvement. We have been dumbed down. This point was very well illustrated.
An exceptionally well-made movie on the most important "issue" for this Country today!

IOUSA - a must-see anyway Date: August 22, 2008

"The topic is of utmost importance and therefore not to be missed. That being said, the execution was average at best. The message was not packaged in a way that I think the average American can understand and skipped back and forth between showing how ignorant the average person on the street is and the facts of the problem. I think all the street interviews were useless distractions and detracted from the focus of each point (making me forget what point we were on). The two main people focussed on in the movie were less than great communicators. Nevertheless a must-see to stir up the kind of movement we need to save our country."

Disappointing Date: August 22, 2008

"I have read Empire of Debt and recommended it to several people-all of whom were scared to death. But the film fails to adequately address the depreciation of our currency over the last 45+ years as a result of profligate government spending. The film also fails to adequately place the blame for our fiscal problems on gutless politicians and a politicized federal reserve. Last but not least, the film incorrectly blames supply side economics and tax cuts (which are largely responsible for all the good things that have happened in the past and those Buffet imagines happening in the future to save us) which allow men to keep what they earn for fiscal and monetary irresponsibility."
