I thought this movie sort of resembled the other one portrayed by Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding, Jr...I believe that one was called "What Dreams May Come". Lovely Bones is a touching story of family love (especially between father and daughter) and has a true connection to today's social crimes. Although it was a good movie to watch, I'm not sure it was worth the price and hassle of driving to a movie theater. Lovely Bones may be best enjoyed at home on a rainy day snuggling with someone special.

Overwrought, over-written, ill-conceived and disjointed, Peter Jackson's decisions about how to portray this best-selling book fail at every turn. His need to create heavenly imagery (some of which are magnificent, by the way) is pure ego and disrupt the story line to the point of distraction. He wastes the talents of Stanley Tucci, who is very good, and young Rachel Weisz, who is even better. Worse, a drunken, chain-smoking grandmother? And the Tucci character killed by a magically placed icicle? Give me a break. A totally unsatisfying interpretation.

How could the book be so riveting and this movie be so s-l-o-w? We must have looked at our watches five times. Would it never be over? Stanley Tucci was an excellent creeper, though. Fans of the book, save your money and wait to see it cheaper on the small screen. Not worth the big bucks when so many good movies are out now. Or just re-read the book!

Even those who didn't read the book will appreciate this one. The film brings home the sad fact that you can't thrust anyone and that tragedy can hit any time without warning. With excellent actors and the interaction of this and the next world, this is an unusual movie with no shortage of frightening moments.

An amazing creation of a film. This movie has terror heart and soul. Gritty ugliness and effervescent beauty. Other movies have tried but this is the most successful .movie I've seen at bringing the moviegoer to other realms (usually this falls flat and looks cheesy) almost impossible to achieve but they did it.. And it helps tell the story.

Chose this film to see with our 15 y/o daughter, since she had already seen everything I wanted to see. I had high expectations for a Peter Jackson film, which weren't met. I connected with the Limbo portions, but from previews I expected more interaction with the living, where all the characters deserved more fleshing out. We had more discussion afterwards about this flick than any other in the past year. My daughter will certainly stay away from strangers. Glad we saw it, but can't recommend.

A visually beautiful film that brought the story of the In Between to life from the novel, The Lovely Bones. Saoirse Ronan was a wonderful Suzy, narrating her life on Earth and from the In Between and Stanley Tucci was creepy and believable as her killer. The film did not, however, capture the emotion of the family's grief as well as the book described. But the 1970s ranch homes and their furnishings were an unexpected treat in the film.

I really enjoyed Susan Sarandon in this movie- she was the bright spot.

This movie started out pretty good but, it soon died off. The story itself was good but the movie didn't stay on line. It jumped from the "in between" to her parents seperating and then back to the in between. Also, this movie was narrated throughout and didn't allow the audience to anticipate the next scene. Overall my girlfriend and I were highly disappointed.

I am a huge fan of Susan Sarandon & Mark Wahlberg, couldn't wait to see the movie. Their acting was wonderful so was Susan Sarandon, she was outstanding as usual, but have to say, the movie really sucked! I was very disappointed and would not recommend this movie to anyone of my friends or family. Hope their next movie is better.

The Lovely Bones is an amazing movie! Do not listen to those other people who say "it's a waste of money." Because it's not! You'll not be dissapoionted about this flim. I usally never cry in movies when there sad or what not, but this was the first movie of my life to touch my heart and make me cry. I could feel the family's pain and water came to my eyes and was soo much tears I could not even see the screen. SO IF YOU WANT TO SEE A GREAT FILM.. THE LOVELY BONES WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!!! [=

When I heard this book was being made into a movie I was really excited. I read it a while back but decided to re-read it. After reading it again(it was a fantastic book), I was even more excited only to be super disappointed when actually watching the movie. Too many important scenes were eliminated to give you the same good-feeling effect the book had. My Aunt, who hasn't read the book, also thought it was 2 thumbs down. Don't waste your money!!

I never read the book. The synopsis of this movie made me think it would be more about a father trying to actively track down the man who murdered his daughter but it was about a girl being lured to an underground lair and murdered. They never reveal how, they just show her fighting with the soon-to-be murderer and then she's wandering around, trapped between Heaven and Earth. The transitions were not well thought out. The story then shows her family trying to move on in, complete with the mother-in-law moving in (the comedy portion of the movie) and the mother moves out to pick fruit for a living. There was no flow, the ending was very disappointing. There was no justice, and that’s what I was really looking for in the ending.

I read this book a few years ago and always thought it would be impossible to capture it as a film. While not 100% successful, i think Peter Jackson did about as well as you're going to do capturing the mood and flow of the book. it is also very well cast and succinctly presented. i would see this again. Shows a side of Jackson you might not be aware of. Score by Brian Eno was a great way to handle the music for this story as well.

Saoirse Ronan is absolutely mezmerizing as Susan Salmon, the 14 year old girl around whom the film revolves. Equal credit goes to Stanley Tucci, the antagonist of the film, whose mere look sends shivers down one's spine. Production designer Naomi Shohan and cinematographer Andrew Lesnie deserve mentioning also for their fine work. Peter Jackson's work will probably be under appreciated and under viewed but that loss is to the viewer.

I wanted to see this movie the minute I saw the first preview. I'm glad I did, loved it, has a great flow, great characters. Story is well told, and characters are developed with thought to where they began, and where they are going. You are not left hanging, or having to figure out what would have happened, or what should have happened. Film starts with a bang, and ends like a film of this caliber should, with all loose ends tide up. Only down side, and it's not because I don't like her, because I do. But Susan Sarandon, is becoming the female Al pacino. She has a screaming scene, in almost everything she does. But it is no reason not to see this film.

Don't expect a Lord of the Rings here. Many will be disappointed because it does not go where you expect or want. But its a powerful tale that is tastefully told. Stanley Tucci is amazing and all but unrecognizable. Saoirse Ronan does an admirable job as 14 year old Susie Salmon who tells us she has been murdered at the onset and therein changes the course of what might have been a murder mystery. The story centers on her soul finding meaning and dealing with revenge and love. Strong visual effects of the in between world where she tries to make sense of a senseless act. Quiet and moving. Some men might not be quick to relate to this type of story.

I have heard, as I am sure you have, a lot of poor reviews for this movie. I have to say that I do not agree with them. I really liked this movie. There were some things that could have been done better, but all in all it was an interesting movie experience. Perhaps I am more open minded since I have not read the book yet, or seen any other Peter Jackson movies.
The Lovely Bones has a haunting quality that stays with you after the movie.
Although the movie has a PG-13 rating, I would caution parents that more sensitive children could be upset by some of the images.

I have not read the book but have been interested in the story for quite awhile. I planned to read the book after seeing the movie so that the book would not be spoiled as most movie adaptations do not live up to the original book (in my opinion). I was really disappointed in this movie version. It was boring and was way, way too heavy on the special effects. I wanted to see more of how Suzie's death effected the peope in her life, not how many cool effects could be thrown together to make an "in between" land before Suzie finally goes to heaven. Some scenes were visually stunning but if that is what you are looking for, go see Avatar instead. Visually stunning and a fantastic story.

Movie was good but way too long. They could have wrapped it up in an hour and a half and had a better effect. This movie drags and some scenes are just unnecessary (ie, Susie and the Asian girl running and playing and dressing up in a psychedelic themed scene - again way too long).

Bought tickets for my 17 yr old daughter and she was disappointed and said it was one of the worst movies she had ever seen. She said they kept jumping to different parts of the movie and you would get lost. I will wait until it comes out on DVD to see if she was right. She was disappointed, but my knowing the value of money would be downright ticked off if I go pay $10 to see it and I feel likewise. They should have a guarantee that if you can't make it pass the first 30 minutes of a movie you can exchange your ticket stub for anothe movie. Great Idea AMC theaters
