I enjoyed watching the 70's scenery and styles that I had almost forgotten. The cast is good. Love Mark Wahlberg and Susan Sarandon is so fun in her role!! It's a moving story and Mark Wahlberg gives a strong performance.

I really enjoyed this movie, I couldn't wait to see it and am glad I did. It is not a suspenseful horror movie, but better. There is real meaning behind it. Although the ending was not what I had expected completely, it was satisfying I suppose. All in all it's a great movie!!

I thought the movie was very good, wonderful cinematography and special affects. Definitely worth seeing, good story. I've read several reviews. To the person who wished the end was different...it was written after the book and things in life don't always turn out the way we want. To those expecting a certain type of movie because someone involved usually does different kinds of genre', get over it. This wasn't supposed to be a horror movie. This was very good.

Instead of looking for a killer, it gave a very real and thoughtful look at the family dealing with a child's death. And at the same time, the dead child making its way to accepting her death

Initially seeing the movie trailer, I was anticipating a compelling suspense drama, however after viewing the movie I was disappointed that the murderer was killed instead of being caught. I would have preferred he be caught because then the family would have gotten their closure. and the title doesnt seem to fit th movie.

I took 2 17 year olds to it becasue there was nothing else on. We all thought it was a good movie with good scenes and excitement. Kept my interest and on edge 90% of the time.

I went in thinking it wouldn't be worth paying movie theater prices, but leaving very satisfied with my money spent! I thought the movie was really good. I never read the book, but saw it with a friend who did and she liked it too. There was a number of times where my heart was pounding. The acting was very good and the special effects were good too! I would definitly recommend others to see it!!

I had high expectations for this movie given the trailer and the best selling book. What a disappointment. The storyline is long, confusing and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats for what should have been the appropriate ending - the child killer is found out and Susie's parents get their daughters remains. But that doesn't happen in fact I am still not sure what the intended message was at the end of the movie. The special effects were weird, silly and seemed out of context with the movie's dark senseless story. One of the worst movies that I've seen in years. I would not recommend it.

This movie was so creepy and weird. It was depressing. Don't get me wrong - the acting was fantastic, and the effects and ideas were interesting, but moved a bit slowly at times. The subject matter was so dark and disgusting that I realized after seeing it that I don't ever want to be "entertained" in this fashion again- Child Molesters and Child Murderers DO NOT make for good entertainment. It was very disturbing.

I have never read the book, but I thought it was a good movie. Very moving ! I hope this will teach a lesson to the kids that you cannot trust everyone in this world, even some neighbors.

I didn't read the book but I will now. I was supposed to go out after the movie, but it left me so depressed that I raced home to see my kids. Acting was very good by the kids and Stanley Tucci. Marky Mark and the Mom... not so good. Susan Serandon, as usual, overacted.

I'm sure only about 2% of everyone who went to see the movie actually read the book, so I'm not going to go into too many comparisons. Basically, the movie was a sugar coated gum drop version of the book and not at all what was expected. The book tone was dark and foreboding, but the movie was a make-you-feel-bad-be-scared-if-you're-parents yawn fest. But, once again I'm assuming next to no one read the book, because if you had, you would know that the book was very adult and would not be rated under R if made exactly the way it should have been.
If you were to go out and see the movie with no prior knowledge of it, it would be just mediocre to you as well. I wouldn't suggest seeing it in theaters. Trust me on this one.

The movie started out great. It was scary stuff and then it went south quickly. The girl gets murdered no surprise there but the whole between earth and heaven didn't work for me. Also, the mother running off to go pick apples leaving her husband and other children was bizarre. Susan Sarandon was pretty funny. Skip this one...Maybe it aligned well with the book but not having read it, I can't say. Definitely could have been great but just never developed to fruition in any direction.

This movie didn't seem to know what it wanted to be - a thriller, an opinion of the afterlife or a teenage love story. It was very slow and seemed to lose its way. The message that the girl was trying to reach her father so that he could work out her killer was was not clear, and the dad just didn't get it! The character of the older girl who can see 'dead' people could have really been developed - but wasn't. Read the book and forget the movie.

It is unfortunate that killings like those in this movie occur everyday in our society -- making it all too believable and real. It was scary while not being over the top, and included enough drama to be interesting most of the time. But, at other times it seemed a little slow. I was only disappointed that the father didn't cause the demise of the killer, legally of course. But, in the end he did get his due reward. I really enjoyed the movie especially because the actual murder was left to your imagination.

Little long and drawn out and overall not what I was expecting from the film with Peter Jackson's name and a strong book behind it. Nevertheless the acting was great and Stanley Tucci did a great job at being creepy. Left thinking that while I certainly didn't hate it and some of the imagery was breath-taking, it wasn't something I would need to see again.

I must say this one was worth the trip, my girls and I loved the movie, it was a sad and beautiful story at the same time. Thought it was well written with great actors, I really enjoyed grandma! There was a few points that I wish was different. I thought the parents needed more closure. But I will buy this movie on dvd to watch again.
