It is an entertaining movie for those who know the characters well from the TV Episode. It only gets a four-star rating (or maybe I should put three or three-point-five for non-fans) for the following reasons: There were some slow parts to the movie. If you are not familiar with the characters from the TV episode, it also may be rather dull throughout. And finally if you are not into science-fiction or fantasy, it is definitely not for you since many scenes are not possible in real-life.
My favorite parts of the show were not the so-called "science and mystery", but rather the relationship of Mulder and Scully and how others, who do not know Mulder and Scully, treat them. This was the most riveting part of the moive. Thus, this may not appeal to younger viewers (20-30), but maybe to those over 30 or 40 years old. The very things that affect the relationship will always be there (money, career, children, faith, etc). What you love about your partner may very well become what you also hate about your partner. In long-term relationships there will be times you question whether you should separate or not. And there will be those you are attracted to your partner in some form or another.
Lastly, stay until the end-of-credits for quick-laugh.

I went to see the X Files movie this weekend and loved it. I had my doubts after reading some not so hot reviews but I was floored by the acting, the way the story made you think, and the awesome chemistry between the leads. Don't hesitate to go see this one! You will enjoy it.

I left the house to see this movie? In short a good movie, but could have just been a 2 hour special X-Files movie on TV. Frankly seemed no more than a good (at best) version of one of their season shows. Durring the whold movie kept wondering when something really good was going to happen. Simply put it could have been Morgan Freeman and Debra Winger chasing after these bad guys.

Not the best movie EVER, but worth the wait just to see Mulder and Scully together again. For true fans of the series the relationship and where it has ended up makes perfect sense. The chemistry between these two people is as electrifying as ever, the rest of the movie is just gravy. For what is it worth, I hope this isn't the last we have seen of Mulder and Scully!!

I was a big fan of the X-Files TV series and was looking forward to seeing this latest installment in the franchise. After so much anticipation, it's sad this movie was so poorly executed. The plot didn't have a unique X-Files feel--this movie could have featured any random set of lead characters. There wasn't anything particularly scary or creepy about the plot and the acting falls flat in many scenes. Overall, this movie disappointed.

I kept waiting for unexplained aliens, but only saw a misunderstood psychic pedophile with visions of victims of Frankenstein fiends. Weird. As my husband said, well that was a DVD rental. Yep. We are batting .500 for the summer. IronMan was awesome, Raiders was hohum, Hancock was awesome, X-files ho hum. Husband will go see Batman, I don't care for the dark violence. I think I will stick to NOVA on TV.

I was disappointed. It didn't follow the premise of the TV series, more of a detective/mystery movie. The plot was slow, confusing and just plain boring. One of the people I saw it with fell asleep. The only good thing about it was seeing Fox and Mulder again.

I recommend this movie highly! It held my attention, throughout and I had no problem with the plot. It even gives you a glimse of the love relationship between Scully and Mulder, that you always wished they would admit. This movie showed that completely. Also, for you fans of blood and gore....it gave that too! Plenty of it, I might add! I would have given it 10 stars, but the rating only goes to 5. :))

Although the new X-Files movie is a quiet, thoughtful bonus-length episode of the show, it is still going to lose so much on the uninitiated. At the core is Skully's continued battle between reconciling her faith and her science, and if a viewer had not seen that inner conflict during her battle with cancer, they will be missing out on the fascinating layers of this great character. I loved the movie, but I would only recommend it to true fans.

Well I went to the movies expected to see supernatural , ET meetings with Mulder and Scully. I came out thinking what happened? I liked the parts that showed what Scullly and Mulder had been doing post FBI. I was a dedicated watcher of the series. But after all that, the movie was long, drawn out and mediocre. The plot was terrible. I would wait save your money and rent. I gave it 2 stars, one for seeing Mulder and Scully after FBI and the other star for effort.

I know that I had a great time watching this film, and I know everybody else in the theater did, as well. This is defiitely a movie catered to the die-hard X-files fan who really enjoyed the TV show and all that it had to offer. The funny thing is, we all even sat through the credits at the end because we knew that Chris Carter had something waiting for us. Great soundtrack, too!

While not the best movie I've seen this year it has been my favorite so far. It was everything I wanted out of the new X-Files movie. It focused on the relationship between Mulder and Scully in a way the show never did. I don't see non-fans really liking this movie though because of the focus on their relationship. You really have to know their history in order to understand why they are at the point they are now. X-Files fans should love this movie and it's a great way to return to the franchise.

This X Files film was a gritty, scary story that is starkly different from many of the choices available today. If you haven't seen The Dark Knight, then go see it. But if you have seen it, you'll want to give The X Files a try. Certainly it is a much better film than Mama Mia or The Will Farrel Show. It is very interesting to see Mulder and Scully solving crimes in this new part of their life, i.e. outside of the FBI. Also, this movie is a thiller. Think Saw but with less gore (and you won't figure out the mystery in the first five minutes like with Saw). If you are a fan of the show, you'll love this movie. If you didn't see the show, you still get a kick out of this movie if you like gritty, scary crime movies.

I like this movie better than the last X-files movies. I thought this one was well crafted, had intense drama and a multilayered story. Of course, like the TV series what really shines is Mulder and Scully. Its an amazing mix of the thrill of the chase, mystery, interpersonal drama, some allusions to the X-files mythology, the paranormal and bite-your-fingernails tension. Billy Connolly (the priest) is exceptional as well. Its time for a re-watching of the series!!

Writing this review is taking all the courage I have. I'm a die hard Scully & Mulder Fan. But I can't write about something that just isn't there. I went with "medium" expectations - after all, just seeing Mulder & Scully together again, after all this time, is reward enough for me. If you feel the same, then by all means, go see it on big screen. I don't think you would be wasting your money - honest! But the plot is rather bad. I was expecting the same excitement we felt from the "government conspiracy, alien virus, smoking man epidodes or perhaps the spookey spine tingling from mom under the bed - remember that one? Yikes! (I heard this episode never made it on the air -too freaky for audiences so you might want to get it on DVD). Again, I adored seeing Mulder & Scully, I loved hearing where they've been and I even cried when Scully remembered William! In fact, I think this movie would be better for those who are not fans of the show. You'd probably get more entertainment from it. Those of us who are familiar with Chris Carter's abilities just expected more! Last Note: I had read that Chris & collaborators wrote the script immediately after the show went off the air, then stored the index cards away waiting for the ok to make the film. Imagine discovering that the cards were gone - and having to start all over again???? Sadly, something got lost in the re-write.

As an X-File fan, I did appreciate the new movie and at least the intent of showing us how Mulder and Scully have fared over the past 6 years. Unfortunately, one bedroom shot and just a few references to how they feel about each other did not really cut it. Also, the final X-Files television episode involved Mulder's escape of a military prosecution - a death sentence. How could the FBI's "forgiveness" of Mulder's crime simply to ask for his help on one case be enough to not make him a huge target? This factor was one of several weak supports in the plot of this movie. There were many other weaknesses, and I wished CC had at least written from the standpoint that they were actually doing something worthwhile over the years...instead it reveals only that they've been together. I believe DD had stated in a recent interview that this movie would show the evolvement of Mulder and Scully's relationship. Well, if so, then where was the juice? Actors were of course, great. But as in the first movie, some of the lines were ill-placed or perhaps should not have been used. Also, the build up of some of the scenes was scant and would eventually fall flat. Another problem - they cut the suspense quite a bit. Can't see a reason for it. At least that would also draw the scary movie crowd. Lastly, it does seem that this movie was as under-funded as it was over-due. Perhaps that is why CC couldn't elaborate from the main conspiracy. Nor use better footage. C'mon FOX! Just 'cause you don't like the stance of the show doesn't mean you have to mutilate the context...(wished there was a loop-hole in the contract - another source could do this story justice!) But, with all that said, I would not have missed seeing it. In fact, I encourage all fans to see it - despite the poor promoting, let's show the corps we want more!

This movie was bad enough that it feels like it has tainted my long standing love of the series. I seriously wish I never saw it.

Overall “I Want to Believe” is fairly enjoyable. The disturbing elements, occasionally humorous moments, unclear motives of the villains, and tender connection between Mulder and Scully are all present. However the film would have been better suited as a TV movie as opposed to being theatrical. “I Want to Believe” lacked the grand-scale, brimming of exciting locations and sets that “Fight the Future” offered. If you can overlook Scully's subplot seeming rather forced, a far too convenient scene in which Scully discovers something that will help Mulder's mission, and an abrupt ending, you may enjoy this film.

This movie was really great not only for people who loved the series, but people who have never really seen the series but knows what the series is about. I loved it, saw it opening night because my fiance really wanted to see and thought it was going to suck but was pleasantly surprised. Definitely check it out!

... to be a good film. It was good at sucking. I'm a big X-Files fan and after ten years, I wanted to be blown away. I wasn't. The story was weak, the dialog was boring, Duchovny and Anderson seemed rusty. This was a let down. It could have been a movie of the week on Fox. Don't waste your money. Wait for the DVD.

I've been a fan of The X-Files from day one. I love every episode of the series. I love "Fight the Future" and I really loved "I Want to Believe". If you are a TRUE FAN of the The X-Files you will not come away from this movie disappointed.

Yes, the case-file felt tacked on, but the character development was lovely, and Gillian Anderson carried it really nicely. I liked seeing my X-Files characters over again. The casefile was beyond ludicrous though.

**CRITIC REVIEW** i expected to see a a two to three star movie but this movie comes in slowly and just starts building. there was times i would find myself on the edge of my seat. i cant say it was a family movie but i cant see anything terrible about bringing kids to the x-files. this is definately the x-files movie sci-fi fans have been waiting for but now i think that its not just a sci-fi hit, when it hits the box office it will be a long time favorite fo a lot of people. i recommend this movie definately.

Its not what you expect. Less monsters and scariness, but more character development. Great to see Mulder and Scully back in their old roles, some great lines. Fans of the show will love it and want more, but you don't have to be a die-hard fan to get it, its not really that complicated, actually, and I think a lot of people would like it, even if they hadn't ever seen the show. I think the next one should be deeper and more "out-there" but this was a good transtition movie after so many years.

Oh no, I could not be more disappointed with this movie :( I am a huge X-Files fan and this was such a boring, bland MOTW (Monster of the Week) movie. Where is the conspiracy theory?...where are the Lone Gunmen?...Who cares about their son!! The only reason I didn't walk out was b/c I wanted to see how it ended. Thank goodness Skinner showed up towards to end of the movie to perk me up :)
