I would caution any die-hard fan when thinking of seeing this movie. I can guarantee the future you imagined for Mulder and Scully to be more touching and entertaining than anything in this film. I myself have waited for this film for years. From the season premier to the last episode Mulder was in, I watched this show faithfully and I have had the opening night of this movie marked on my calender for months. I was picturing a touching reunion, a build up to a fate-filled kiss, touching scenes, intense plot, and the comedy I knew and loved. What I got instead was a loose plot with a bare minimum of paranormal happenings and a giant IGNORE of what should have been a wonderful story of Mulder/Scully love. This movie was filled to the brim with Scully whining and Mulder detachment sprinkled with cheesy "god talk" and stupid observations. I actually laughed out-loud during one of Scully's tirades and had to gather myself to ride the movie out. I was left feeling empty, annoyed, and let down even though I truly WANTED TO BELIEVE.

This is the X-Files movie fans were hungry for back in 1998! The chemistry between Mulder & Scully is still there. I loved the episode references. For once, Chris Carter got his continuity right. While I hate to do spoilers, one piece of info should not go unmentioned: Look at Mulder's cell when he calls Scully. How many of those names do you remember?? :)

TXF-IWTB takes us back into that dark universe known as The X-Files that we came to love so many years ago. David and Gillian slide effortlessly back into Mulder and Scully as if 6 hours had passed and not 6 years. At the heart are these two complex, conflicted, worn, intelligent creatures who have seen their share of pain, darkness and betrayal and come out okay. They can love each openly--finally, but they ultimately stand in the way of themselves. 'shippers (like me) will die happy just to see our duo on screen again and in love despite the bitter un-bliss that looms near. The story is both new and familiar to this show, but doesn't seem to come together and click like it should, and I expected much better storytelling from Carter after these years. Overall, Mulder and Scully are still as good as they ever were, but a darker, deeper, better told story could have risen them above the beauty of just their relationship. I hope to see another movie in at a couple of years.
Scully's B-plot with her patient fell in line with the faith/believe storyline, but could have been dropped in order to spend more time with the A plot and with Mulder. The opportunity for them to come together like old, and investigate was lost. And I know they are not in that place anymore, but to see a good old fashioned scary case weave in and out would have been great. More for die hard fans though, but nothing beats seeing Mulder and Scully together again. A for that.

I took my mom and my 13 year old daughter who was a baby when the series started, My mom and I used to schedule our Sunday nights around the show. As a fan of the series, I found the movie delicious and when just minutes into the movie, Scully and Mulder still had the banter and had not lost that connection, I knew it was going to be great. So many questions are sitll to be answered but the answers we got from this film were exactly what I expected. I will wait anxiously until the next movie appears and buy tickets online the minute they are available to ensure I get in to the first showing. I am ADDICTED!!!

Compelling plot. Duchovny & Anderson played their relationship well. Scully's epiphany was strained and the ending seemed disjointed. Plenty of tension and uncertainty to keep interest up. Overall the movie is worth seeing, but it feel a little short because it got lost in the ending. I suspect some good scenes were left on the cutting room floor.

I came to see this movie for all the aliens, paranormal thrills, Mulder-Scully lock-horn banter that I've come to love (remember the Arcadia episode?) and to be happily frightened. What really frightened me was the homophobia. Where the hell did that come from? Psychopathic foreigner gay sexual deviants who prey on defenseless middle-class, heterosexual white women because they were molested alter boys. Having them heterosexual wouldn't be evil enough, huh? And writer-director Chris Carter doesn't stop there contrasting the "purity" of the Mulder-Scully relationship with the killers by evoking gay marriage as some kind of metaphor for evil. Thanks a lot man and Carter! FYI, took the plot nowhere.

For those who have never seen X-Files you may not be expecting a lot so you might just come out thinking it was a little too long and could have been trimmed and better researched in a few places. You might also check your watch a few times and leave right after the final scene with a ho-hum, shrug feeling. In general, that was the movie, ho-hum and shrug. We're all pretty desensitized to accepting low quality films from Hollywood. (I'd still recommend it though...it was scenic and well-acted.) For those who have watched the series my question is have Carter and Spotnitz actually been replaced by alien-human hybrids? Did the black oil seep in at some point and take over their brains? They had 6 years and essentially did a remake/hybrid of "Beyond the Sea" and "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose." Someone should have strapped Carter and Spotnitz to their couches and forced them to watch seasons 1-5 again. Maybe based on the history of stand alones I was expecting too much and came away pretty disappointed. It was droning, Scully with the same arguments, usually wrong and giving in in the end, and Mulder selfishly using her again. I was never a shipper so that lovey stuff wasn't quite endearing to me. The acting was good though, Anderson slipped back into Scully nicely and Duchovny played...umm...Duchovny. Pileggi's brief appearance drew a few cheers from the audience and I liked his too-few minutes. Billy Connolly was wonderful I thought and did the best with what he was given....some lines of which were almost straight from the "Clyde Bruckman" script I think. I could have done with a bit of Mark Snow's piano work--that was always a great part of the early years. Shame, shame about the stem cell therapy "research" on Google...Anderson should have stood up and said "no, this is stupid." Where were the stacks of medical journals, research, sticky notes marking articles? Simple stuff guys. They should have had Scully unknowingly corresponding with one of the crazy doctors and then finding out about it at the end. That would have been interesting and created quite a dilemma for her. It was just irritating they didn't think about that side story's possibility. That was really poor research for the film in my opinion. I suppose it's dead now--Fox won't finance another if this doesn't do well. Such great potential too. If there's ever a next one, a fan should write it because for some reason the current writers aren't fans of their own work.

I love the idea of Scully and Mulder back in action again, and the way that we were given an insight into what their lives were like now that they were not with the FBI anymore. What I was disappointed in was the fact that it was more like the tv series and not like what I expected it to be. I was hoping for a little more and got a little less. Overall I would suggest this movie to other X-files fans.

My only reason for not recommending this movie is that it is truly for fans of "The X-Files." This story was a nice opportunity to catch up with the characters and see where they are now, but this movie is not all that interesting. This is just an extended version of any random episode from the series. Unfortunately, this movie does not take us on a ride through the truly paranormal... as the first movie did in 1998. If you're not a fan of the show, you might as well skip this film.

As far as television to movie genres go, X-Files was fairly good. It had Mulder/Scully tensions, the continuing debate of faith vs science, and a weird paranormalesque mystery to solve. It seemed like a logical addition to the canon. The movie wasn't superb but it was satisfying and it was also fun revisit to the past.

Great to see Mulder and Scully in action again. For X-Files fans this movie will be ok. Just ok. Overall feeling was one of a good tv episode of X-Files. It was lacking the action and suspense of a feature length film. The plot of the movie seemed familiar to many of their non alien tv episode plots. People who are not fans of X-Files would be disappointed with this movie. Hoping for more action in the next X-Files movie....if there is one.

Me and my Dad are die hard X-Files fans. Its one of our top fav TV shows ever. When we heard of the new movie coming out we where too excited! Then all the hush hush about the title, the script and even how long it was! It was just too much to handle and we where ready to see it. And then we saw it....

It could have been so much better. THATS what the big deal was about!!?!?! Ok the love between Scully and Mulder great. The acting was great. They seem to fall right back into the parts. My BIG problem was the X-File its self. THAT ALL THEY COULD COME UP WITH?!?!?! Some of the shows were more intense than that. I just feel they should have picked a cooler X-File to solve than that. Too many holes in the story and the secondary story with Scully could have been better too!! I was just hyped up so much and love the show so much that when I saw this I was upset cause it was not as good as I thought it was going to be. Xzibit and Amanda Peet did a good job too!! And the suprise old timer was refreshing lol. But in a nut shell I didnt like it too much but I am still a fan even after that HUGE dissapointment!! :o)

This movie has a pitifully thin and stupid plot, poor writing, and is insulting to X-Files fans. The producers of this film obviously knew this, as they used a lot of boring and poorly shot filler scenes (such as the foot-chase) and a stupid sub-plot (the dying kid and the weak link to stem-cell research) to try to get this long enough to release as anything but a trailer. And talk about stock characters! First, you've got the verbally sceptical FBI agents; then the evil Russian guy, and wow! we've never seen this one before, the pedophile priest! It was a waste of a lot of very good actors and film crew's time and effort, and an obvious attempt to palm this off on the public using the draw of the X-Files name. And I don't know if anyone else noticed that in the trailer, Father Joe's eyes were black, not bleeding as in the movie.

I liked the movie. I didn't love it. I wanted to love it, of course; I've been waiting six years for it! It felt like a long TV episode, and in that respect, it was good. I'm glad to have seen it. We stepped right into a familiar setting, and got involved in what seemed just like intriguing business as usual. It made sense for Scully to be where she was, for Mulder to be where he was, and the relationship between the two carefully unfolded during the movie. Maybe a little too carefully. The story had all the elements of an X-File, but was a bit murky and disjointed—and there were no real surprises. The same questions led to the same half-answers. There was a great deal of time spent in heavy snow, and the indoor sets weren't ever bright enough for what would have been a welcome contrast, even in an operating room. And there was a bit of obvious pandering humor which made me roll my eyes, but I will say that other members of the audience were delighted by it.
I hate to say it was cliche, since we'd all probably enjoy seeing more of what we loved so much in the series, but the truth is, they could have given us a more intimate story with a deeper connection to the X-Files background and I think even non-fans would have enjoyed that. The acting was all just fine, but there wasn't quite enough story, so I am not sure it will be much appreciated by anyone who isn't already a fan of these characters. And fans might actually wish it was longer and more fleshed-out, like a good two-parter instead of a long single episode. I liked what I saw, but it just could have been more. 3 stars is average and 4 is good. I'd have given it 3.5 if I could, mostly because it was great to see Mulder and Scully again.

X-files movie did not segue from the prior movie at all . Why did Mulder and Skully not marry? Mulder virtually saved the world but yet was ostricized from the FBI, why? The movie was more like a TV episode rather than an epic production.

This was not a bad Movie and if you are an X-Files fan then it is a Must see, However I see no reason why this was just not a TV Special Movie of the week.

Chris Carter does it again, where's he been? This movie takes you back to the TV show immediately with the theme and characters and their distinct personalities. If you've never seen the TV show, you're in luck: the plot is fully developed and novices will understand and follow it. Some humor, some questions, lots of action - what else can you ask for? I loved it!

This movie is fantastic. It appealed to me because I am an avid watcher of the tv series, AND it got all my "non-fan" friends interested in the series now!! GREAT! Now we all can watch the x-files dvds together! -->Even if you have never seen one episode you will still love this movie. -->If you're an avid fan go with an open mind...it's not about aliens (darn).

I wasn't sure what to expect, or even if I cared after years away from the series, but I was pleasantly amazed by this film. I would warn any casual fans of the show (or those completely clueless about the series) to stay away. Although the basic storyline is easy enough to follow, the emotional subtext will be completely lost if you are unfamiliar with the characters and their past. This was a complicated, challenging, and thoughtful film for adults (I personally cringe at the PG-13 rating - although there is little "bad" language and no nudity, the topics and themes addressed here are not appropriate for a 13-year-old). The film meditates on when keeping faith in something crosses over into causing more pain than it is worth. Scully wrestles with whether or not to continue a painful experimental treatment on a dying boy. Mulder becomes obsessed with a murder case, which seems to crumble his long-term relationship with Scully. A former child molesting priest has visions from god about the murder. All of these elements are handled in a sober, open-minded context and resolved in a satisfying (if not definitive) way. I cannot remember the last film from Hollywood that treated it's audience with the assumption that they were intelligent, informed and empathetic enough to understand the character challenges presented here. To me, the series ended with an appropriate yet unsatisfying finale - this film shows us where these characters went and brought them (for me, anyway) to a much more satisfying and rewarding conclusion. If you loved the show, I can't imagine you not enjoying the film. If you were on the fence or unfamiliar, I suggest staying away. True Believers will be rewarded for their faith in the show, but doubters beware.

I loves the x files series, ( have been slowly purchasing the seasons on DVD;) and only because of this i enjoined seeing the characters reunited and there lives continuing ware the show left off.-C.C did a very good job this i give the movie 3 stars; but if i don't think Carter does a good job of bringing non fans to the movie. it should not have been a lengthy episode about physics, but about the governmental Conspiracies that have haunted them since the 90's

Having been a "believer" in The X-Files since the beginning, I was glad to see some of the back story since the series end being covered here. I was also glad to see some of the "feel" of the series as well. However, I feel that the focus was way too much on the sub-plots, and the plot itself lacked in so many ways. This really should have been a Made For TV movie, or Straight to DVD release. I just feel like the magic was not their. Will their be another sequel with a better script? I Want to Believe.

Not exactly what I expected but still entertaining. It gave a glimpse of life after the X-Files for Mulder and Scully. The story was a bit convoluted but easy enough to follow if you paid close attention. They could have come up with a better story to finish the saga.

I was hoping for something better. It was more like an episode than a movie. They did not mix well with the other 2 agents Amanda Peets and I forget the other guys name. He had so few lines that it does not matter anyways. It was disappointing overall for an X-Files movie. The 1st one was better. There t.v. episodes have been better than this. I cannot reveal too much because if you do want to see it I will ruin the movie.
