I like Sci-fi and fantasy and comic genre movies a lot. I don't like getting ripped off by the trailers which lead you slightly to believe that there may have been a continuing theme of aliens and more answers, only to sit through a long episode of CSI: The X-File chronicles. The story could.ve used some work, or at least how they got to the end of the story, but mostly it just wasn't exciting or thrilling, thought-provoking or have a twist that I think most of us have come to expect and appreciate with Mulder and Scully.

I was really looking forward to this movie, I love the last one but I can not say that about this one. It was great to see Mulder and Scully together like that but to me it was not a X-file movie. This could have been an episode of CSI.

As a fan of TXF, I really enjoyed this movie, as did my hubby (who is NOT a fan, so I was surprised about that). I actually think hubby might have liked it even more than I did, which says a lot since he never watched the tv show. The film does not deal with your typical X-File story; instead it is a thinking psychological casefile with several twists & turns, the paranormal aspect being a psychic priest. I feel that I will need to go & see it again to really digest all the details, as there is A LOT of info to put together. I loved seeing David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson together again as Mulder & Scully. I think the movie could have benefitted from MORE involvement of the other actors on the series, so I hope that they them back for the next movie in a greater capacity. I did find myself missing the mytharc aspect of TXF, so I hope the next movie deals with that (although hubby was happy that there were no aliens &/or government conspiracies). All in all, I think philes and non-philes alike will like this film, so go see it; but plan to see it more than once if you truly want to absorb it all.

As a long-time Xfiles fan, I was so anxious to see this follow-up, & was SO horribly disappointed. It was a weak plot, a gruesome, gross, & disgusting plot that disappointingly enough had NOTHING to do with aliens, UFO's, etc. They could have done a much better job with a much better plot for the XFile fans that have waited so long for another movie. I just about got up & walked out on this one. There's really not much more you can say about this disaster, except, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR $$!!

Maybe the movie they're showing in Council Bluffs was different from the one I saw last night in Omaha, but it was far from awesome (see the earlier review!).
It was enjoyable, it was great to see the same characters again, and the humor was still there after all this time (the look Skinner gets from Scully when he says Mulder is not the type to do anything crazy). But I agree with others that it was a long episode, but not a movie's worth of the X-Files. In fact it didn't even touch on the main theme of the X-Files. Heck, even Indy did that (but I wish they'd switch plot endings - would have made more sense for both films).
Overall, a good film but disappointing for true fans, I think. Good for those who aren't familiar with the series, but maybe not spectacular enough to make new fans.

My fiancee (who always watched the X-Files) and I (who never watched it) went to see the movie Friday night. I thought it was pretty good and I liked that I didn't have to know any background the series to enjoy it. I thought it was suspenseful and entertaining.

The acting in this movie is what really made me love it. David Duchovny was great but Gillian Anderson was phenomenal and very believable. I liked how the movie was a monster of the week type and not an alien/conspiracy, as those were my favorite episodes.

One of the big complaints about the X Files movie is that it's "just one long episode". Well, yeah, it is. But after 6 years that's exactly what I hoped it would be. The creep factor was high-very high the more I think about it. It dealt with interesting themes-does the end justify the means, and can a good deed atone for even the most monstrous sin? Mixed in with that was the relationship between two characters who have been made so real by the actors and the writers that a large community still cares about what happens to them years after the show went off the air. The X Files was the best thing on TV for nearly 9 years and for a lot of us, a rerun of the X Files is better than most of what's on TV now.

I rated the movie as "average" but I dont think I would put my recommendation behind this one. The story was typical, drama was ok, acting was ok, but was just a little in the weak department when it came to driving the movie home. I dont like watching 45 mins of a movie trying to figure out what is going on and in one 2 minute scene, mulder lays it all on the table.

Not being a huge x-files fan I wasn't sure what to expect and even though this movie had it's moments it was slow to develop. I kept waiting for it to get intense and for the suspense to increase but a lot of the plot was predictable; one FBI agent is fully behind Mulder while another is totally against him. The "bad guy" walks right past a group of agents looking for him. Scully and Mulder at odds on how hard it is to keep their relationship going. Even so, it was entertaining and I am sure the hard core fan will enjoy it, probably more than the average fan will.

But i went in expecting it to have something to do with the whole conspiracy story line, Those were always my favorite episodes and i thought that they were the most important ones to the show. I agree with Brianna814's comments. I told my husband from watching the trailers I was a little concerned that the movie was not going to be that good. My concerns proved valid.
I love the X-Files, but this film was more like the X-Fails. I had figured out the plotline well before the first half of the movie, and I DON'T LIKE TO FIGURE OUT THE PLOT! Acting, as always, was great, chemistry between Duchovney and Anderson still there, but what a weak story. If you are looking for the thrills of the first movie, you won't find them here. And the supernatural link which we all look for was barely present.
Please, Chris Carter, don't make us wait so long for a sequel, and then just throw it together. It does not do the series, nor the actors, justice.

I was a fan of the series and would like to say that this has nothingt to do with the sies other than inviting 3 characters from the series to be in this movie. The plot is bad, the pace is very slow, and the mood is boring. It is so bad that midway through the movie (when I was hoping it was over) they brought in Sinner to help bring the plot back on track; sad. I would recommend passing on this on til it hits Turner; probably next summer.

It was magic itself just to hear the names Scully and Mulder once again. A fan at a young age, I made it a priority to watch the X-Files everyweek and stayed with it even during the tough times of the last seasons. The plot to this movie was more concentrated on character retrospect and current struggles that stayed true to what is recognized in the show. However, the pieces to the crime puzzle could of fit better with a tad more explanation or closure. The acting was good, especially by Gillian Anderson, the music had a good effect, and the ending with a deep moral made this movie turn from a 4 star to a 5. With T.V. full of immoral fake realitiy it was quite a refreshment to see this wonderful group of entertainers give us through this story something to ponder and apply.

After reading about this movie and knowing that it was not going to be a continuance of the last movie, or even the series, I can say that I truly thank Chris Carter for answering some questions: Did Mulder and Scully ever get together; Did they go on with their lives and forget the X-Files: What happened to Skinner (whom I just love). But, the wonderful thing is that CC left room open for the next film. Yes, Mulder and Scully slipped right back into their old, familiar, loved characters. I really adored the exchange between Scully (while frantically looking for Mulder) and Skinner in the car when Skinner says: Mulder won't do anything stupid.... and Scully gives him "the look" that only Scully can give. I laughed out loud and so did the entire theatre! This film was NOT the rock 'em, sock 'em continuance of the first film, or the series, but it gave me the sense that I was back on Friday night watching this great, great show. It was just better because it was on the Big Screen. The movie was entertaining - and sufficiently creepy --- because it didn't focus on extra-terrestrials, those beings that no one believes in, but very "alien" beings who actually live here on this earth and do such horrific things to their fellow man. And --- the government and the press continue to cover up! Would there be any other way??? Hence, Mulder's fanaticism of cutting out articles and plastering them to his walls. Disbelief --- that's the theme of the X-Fles. No one believes but Mulder, Scully, Skinner and the audience. CC has come away with a winner in my book, and although it may not achieve the box office that perhaps Batman did --- due, mostly to the sad, sad, demise of Heath Ledger. I just know that I don't want to look foward to another X-File movie based solely upon either Mulder's or Scully's death --- real or fictional. They will live on --- no matter what and I hope that CC, the cast, the producers begin working on the next movie within the next 2-3 years. I miss the X-files - it was intelligent, dark, mysterious, scarey, funny and emotional. No other series has captured my heart such as this one. Thanks, CC , DD, and GA --- it was a great ride and I'll definitely be buying this one when it comes out! PS --- The scene at the very end with Mulder and Scully in the row boat waving to the camera/audience! Genius!!! Absolutely genius!!! Thanks for that!!!

There are a couple things that have ticked me off initially about all the negative reviews I've read over the past few days. 1) Those people who are giving bad reviews, yet claiming to be "fan". What a load of horse crap. One went so far as to say they couldn't "wait every Friday night to watch the show". wtf?! XF was on Sunday nights far longer than on Fridays (I believe the schedule changed after Season Two), so, some "fan". Eat Black Oil and die, posers! 2) True Philes (such as myself) have waited six long years for this movie and to have some negative, pee-on-my-party jerk say it was a waste of time is basically telling us true bloods that WE are wasting our time -- no such deal. Me? I loved this movie!! It gave me the same "ewww" feeling that "Silence of The Lambs" gave me way back in the early pre-XF 90s, and strangely enough, that's the very same movie that got me interested in the grisly, FBI-type stories (i.e., X-FILES) in the first place. So, we have to give credit where credit is due. Everyone seems to forget the real star of the X-Files: the uber-creepiness and the "yuck!" factor!! Maybe I love that stuff so much because I loved that type of genre ever since I was a kid reading "Creepy" and "Tale From The Crypt" magazines...and just like Chris Carter, I watched "The Night Stalker" series faithfully every week. More importantly, I am honored that such time, talent and money was expended on making a "love letter' for all of us die-hard fans, truly. I found myself weeping at one point, of an "insider" reference, that only ME, a TRUE DYED-IN-THE-WOOLEN-TRENCHCOAT-FAN, could possibly understand. I wish I could tell all of the awesome people at Ten-Thirteen Productions how much they've thrilled me, shocked me, SCARED me over that last 15 years...and I've loved every, single solitary moment. You guys keep making 'em, and I promise to keep watching 'em!

I am a big fan of The X-Files and I couldn't wait to see this movie. I wish they would bring it back on TV. I loved the movie and hope they make another movie. Thumbs up.

This movie is a great reminder of why the x files was probably one of the best shows ever made for TV: -Mulder and Scully are so interesting as individuals and as a duo that even 9 seasons of x files weren't enough to quench the thirst we have to analyze these characters and their dynamic relationship. -true to x files style, you would leave the theater with so much food for thought that you would want to watch the movie again just to be able to analyze the story in more depth, connect the dots and try to draw your own conclusions. this is a movie that would leave you thinking, wondering and desperately wanting to discuss it with someone else!

Awesome! Even my husband who never watched the show on TV loved it. Some scenes were a little drawn out but what movies don't have that. This movie gets you thinking, gives you a couple of good jumps in your seat with a little comedy thrown in. Loved it.

I thought this movie was overall interesting and generally well acted, but I really enjoyed this series and felt like something lacked in the movie. It didn't have a real "x-files" feel to it.

I thought the movie was great. Stay til the end of the credits as their is a little something extra that is a shout out for the fans.Long time fan of the X-Files series and was pleased that the movie was very layered, so that you need to see it more than once to really catch everything. I'm off to see it again.
