As a die-hard X-File fan, I was first in line for this movie, knowing with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson back together, you couldn't help but believe. In true X-Files fashion, the music, cast and storyline were over the top. It kept with the scientific-have to see it to believe it (go Scully) and phenomenon-open up and believe it no matter what (go Mulder), while adding references to past encounters that only the devoted would pick up on and love. Was thrilled to have it start years down the road with Scully and Mulder still push-pulling their way through life, and still together. If you're a fan, you have to see it. If you're not a fan, buy the boxed set, watch the series and then go see it.

The trailer to this movie baited you to believe there may be an alien connection. I waited for it and gave up on it half way through. After realizing that I settled in and watched a rather dark and suspenseful thriller. It was great to see Mulder , Scully and Skinner again. But quite honestly this story could have been done with any number of good actors and actresses and would have good. Great Thriller. Not so great X-Files.

This is a movie for all the shippers out there, pure and simple. If you're in it for the aliens, the gore, the action or have never seen X-Files before, you'll be sorely disappointed. BUT, if you felt robbed during Fight the Future and throughout the series as we witnessed Mulder and Scully's sexual tension, then brace yourself - you'll LOVE I Want to Believe. This movie is a huge love letter from Mulder and Scully to the shipper fans! And if you are such a fan, stay till the end of the credits for something extra special.
The acting by DD and GA is outstanding - they are phenomenal actors and brought their characters right back to life, without any of the awkwardness of not having stepped into these roles for the past 6 or so years. The onscreen relationship and dynamics, as mentioned, is fantastic. My critique is that the story had no wow factor in terms of why CC made this into a big screen movie versus a TV movie. Perhaps because the budget was low? Thanks FOX. And FOX also blew it by not promoting the movie.

I really was anticipating this movie. Went to see it at 12:01am Fri morning. I am a rabid X-files fan; however, this was not a very good plot. I am sorry but I go to the movies to get away from the sickness of this world not to see more of it. I would have been happy to see aliens again, sasquatch, abominable snowman, or dogs with 6 legs. Not what Chris Carter came up with as entertainment. That said, I loved just getting to see Scully and Mulder again even in a bad movie they were worth the 9.25 I paid and the sleepless night.

Anyone who followed the show is going to be rewarded by seeing Mulder and Scully together again.
It's not a summer popcorn movie, but a quiet character drama that raises questions of morality, redemption and faith. The acting, particularly of Gillian Anderson reprising her signature role, is truly singular.
Ultimately very rewarding, and worth a trip to the movies.

I agree with the others, it was like a really long episode. Only okay, not real thrilling, actually - very tame for the X-Files. And for all you paranormal fans - no aliens, no ufo's. If you like seeing Mulder and Scully be Mulder and Scully, or you don't know anything about the X-Files, you'll probably think this movie is just fine. If you're looking for classic X-Files plot lines, you'll be disappointed. David and Gillian do a fine job reprising their roles, so that was fun to watch. The plot was more murder mystery than X-Files/sci fi fun. It was kind of boring, but not awful. At the end of the day, it was an okay movie. Hopefully they will make another one that is a little more X-Files like.

It was great seeing the cast back in action---even Skinner showed up! I loved it but I am an avid X-File fan, so perhaps I'm unable to look at this film with true objectivity. But it held my interest, had a good story line and was unpredictable throughout. I particularly enjoyed seeing how Mulder and Scully entwined their lives as I felt there was no closure with the series.
The only thing I didn't like was that theatres are always colder than need be and watching all those scenes taking place in the snow was giving my hypothermia. However, I also know that most X-Files are filmed in Vancouver, so why I was surprised by the snow is beyond me. Just gives me a lot of respect for the actors working under those conditions! I hope they'll consider yet another movie, but I suspect David Duchovny is fed up with the whole thing by now.

I've been a loyal fan of the series since day one, and counted down the days to see this movie. Let's just say that I wish I hadn't! I was VERY disappointed. And really embarrassed (w/ the 3 other people that were with me in the theatre, who know I'm a fan). At best, it was just an OK episode (from the TV series) stretched out to two hours on the big screen. The story line was very weak and tenuous, and I was totally lost and uninterested by the middle of the movie. It also lacked the usual twists/turns and creepy atmosphere the series had - instead, it was just an unimaginative and gruesome movie. I expected something more brilliant coming from Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz and was pretty let down when I left the theatre. Another thing that I thought was pretty stupid of CC and FS, was that they had to slap on that bit about GW Bush in there (which had NO relevance to the story). Was it really necessary for them to throw in their political views (so directly) like the rest of hollywood? And it's pretty obvious that they don't view the Catholic Church favorably either. This movie truly lacked the credibility that the TV series once had, and I have a feeling that a lot of people (fans included) will be turned off. The only positive was that Duchovny and Anderson adapted to their roles really well after six years of not playing Mulder and Scully. No matter what episode (and even this movie), it's always nice to see them together on-screen. I still have hope that another movie will be done in the near future (by 2012). One that involves government conspiracy and aliens. That theme would definitely translate much better on the big screen and is truly what made the series so successful.

I love the X-Files but this movie just wasn't that great. It might suffice if all you want is another X-Files episode, but after such a long hiatus from the show and the characters, I expected them to come back with a bang. Instead, as the saying goes, it ends with a whimper. There's a bit of paranormal stuff happening and a lot of moments between Mulder and Scully relationship that would just go flat for people who are new to the series and don't add much to people familiar with the show. After such a long break from the characters, even I was lost a little bit as to where they were going, as the drama wasn't fleshes out enough for a movie. Nothing new is added to the series, and overall it felt as if we've seen everything before, either in the show itself or in movies that have come out since, so it felt like there was no need to make this film. It won't make any new fans, and the existing fans already have the DVDs to fall back to.

I wish I had gone to Chris Carter's website before seeing the movie, that way I wouldn't have anitcipated something the movie was definetly not. I enjoyed the departure from the alien abduction genre and was pleased to see clarfication of Mulder and Scully's relationship. The storyline was creepy enough to keep my attention, even though the middle dragged a bit. I also identified with the story as a morality play, with the exploration of redemption and forgiveness, even with the most reviled of human beings. Good two hours of entertainment!

If you go watch this film stay until the credits stop you'll get a treat =) This will be a really good dvd title to watch. But as a movie where you spend 30.00 to go watch it it just didn't cut the mustard. The story line was OK, call them out of retirement to investigate something but I was expecting conspiracies, aliens etc not a remake of Fargo.

Being a long time X-Files fan, this was a great movie. It was just like watching a new, longer episode of a great show that's no longer on the air. I admit that the movie may not be up to par with what some might come to expect (i.e. aliens, conspiracy, etc...), but it was great nonetheless. Duchovny was definitely the best part of this movie. His wit and charm. Otherwise, it was a bit bland. And for a TV show that I loved for the first few seasons, I was one of many who stopped watching once he left the show - and that was many years ago. Too long, to remember ALL of the inside jokes. But that's the key here: you have to be an X Files fan to even like this movie a little bit. The plot (or "kicker") was fairly ridiculous. And here's a question on continuity without giving away spoilers: Do they ALL live in West Virginia? Where does Scully live? Where does Mulder live? Whose bed was that? But - it was 90 degrees and humid out, so not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

I thought the movie was good. I thought it could have used a little more of Mark Snow's excellent music to help create the mood. I am so glad the answered the questions they did, now on to the Mythology movie and the real fight for the future.

As most have said before, I am a fan of the series and the first movie, but this one left you scratching your head when you left the theater. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this movie very much but, to me, it wasn't quite the X-Files. It was one of those movies where if you dared get up to use the restroom, when you came back you would have been lost. It was more like classwork, where you had to study the movie very close for fear of missing something. Almost felt tired when it was over because I worked too hard. I don't see any fans actually hateing this movie, but in my mind most wont love it either. Entertaining, but too much work for me

I enjoyed the movie tremendously, but I am a "die-hard" X Files fan. I enjoyed the fact that Chris Carter finally made the relationship between Mulder and Scully more of a tangible thing. Fans waited for that and wanted that. However, I have to agree with other reviews I have read that this seemed more like an "appetizer". We wanted and still want MORE! We want more of the original theme that played under the series in its entirety. We want more answers to more questions. We want to see more of the plot unfold.... Come on, Chris, you can do better than this one (even though it was good), and your fans want better and more.

Great memories come back to all that followed and loved one of sci-fi's best!
Maybe not for ALL audiences, but definitely for ALL X-PHILES: Classic Mulder-Scully intensity on-screen, great performances by the actors, and a little bit of the weird and scary that kept us all coming back for more every week.

It was excellent, the plot was creepy, a true xfile. Perfect for fans and non fans. The Mulder -Scully story could not have been better. My only complaint; too little Skinner screen time. Great acting from Gillian. This movie trully is a gift from 1013 to all the fans. Enjoy!!

I was disappointed I guess with what I was expecting. Like UFO's, Aliens, the thruth, I want to believe. It also was somewhat unclear of what the plot was or what the transfer of human parts were for. Especially the head transfer? Male head on female body? Female arm on male body then being changed? Little confusing there, not enough explanation to clarify the activity.
