This movie stands on its own. You really don't need all the X-Files background for this tale to make sense.
It's been quite a while since the last movie, and obviously much has happened between Scully and Mulder. This time around the threat is much more Earth bound. The story operates on several levels with quite a bit of speed folded in to keep you involved, if not on the edge of your seat. From the love-hate relationship between Mulder and the FBI, through the varying trails the main story line can take you down, to the faceted relationship between Dana and Fox, This was a good experience.
See it, you will be pleased.

Went on opening day with my wife. We both liked it. If you followed the X-Files show and previous movie then according to my wife there were no holes in the story line. Mulder and Scully were true to their show personalities. Will definately purchase this one when it comes out on DVD

It's been 10 years since the last movie, 6 since the series ended. Chris Carter clearly made this movie more generalized in an attempt to appeal to an audience who isn't all that familiar with X-files which in my opinion took a lot away from it.

Loved this movie. Saw it today, and I have to disagree with anyone who says it wasn't an X-files movie. This movie was right on the money and had all the key points of any X-File episode ever done. The problem I see is that because it's a "movie" shown in theaters, observers expect more out of it. For me it was just like any other X-File episode only slightly longer. My expectations weren't any more than the TV show and did not expect to compare it to any of this summers blockbusters at all. Great story (it was a very Scully story with all the angst that goes with it) and this theme has popped up in the show many times. Great addition to the existing Mythos. Loved it, loved it, loved it and am happy to finally see Mulder and Scully once again.

My expectations were pretty low, what with all the bad reviews, but I still enjoyed this movie. X-Files is probably one of my favorite TV shows of all time, though - so it was nice just to see Mulder & Scully again, with their always-compelling dynamic. As a stand-alone movie, it's ambitions were modest (no mythology, very few of the series' characters) - it was a bit like watching an extended TV episode...I missed the mythology. So....if you're already a fan, it's a fun nostalgia trip of sorts.

I am a huge fan of the X-Files and was excited about this movie. My excitement turned to disappointment halfway through; I have seen much better TV episodes. I guess if this had been a TV movie instead it wouldn't be half bad but it was certainly not worth paying to see in a movie theater.

I wanted to love this movie SO badly. I grew up a diehard fan of the show and the first movie was really good. But this one......idk there just wasn't a good story. Acting was great....mulder and scully are still amazing, with a great surprise guest at the end but the story was just so mediocre idk what else to say. PLUS what do we all know about the x-files.....its suposse to contain ALOT of paranormal activity. There was virtually NONE in this. It was almost like a twisted crime drama. I won't say the movie was HORRIBLE but it def. was not as good as i had hoped or expected.

Typical of the X-Files, plenty of questions still abounded at the end. Some viewers left feeling "unfulfilled", while others of us expected the open endings so often left by the series. The action was less "supernatural" than what was on the series week to week, concentrating, this time, on one man's psychic ability. The psychology of the main characters was strongly portrayed this time around and actually served as the driving force behind their investigations; their personal relationship was somewhat ambiguous from beginning to end. As my viewing partner pointed out, Carter always seems to have a difficult time writing strong professional roles for couples having a personal relationship. He gives them one or the other, but can't seem to balance the two. Perhaps that's just reflective of most of our real lives... Anyway, several characters' roles seemed overplayed or unnecessary, but if you're a fan, you will be able to get past all of it and just enjoy seeing the characters together on the screen again.

This movie and it feel are very familiar if your a X- Files fan. The give in take between Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Anderson) is all there like they have never stopped. If you aren't a fan then I think it will not be your cup of tea. The plot is less grandiose and I think the movie is better for it. The first movie (twelve years ago) tried to bring in non fans with a "blockbuster" epic plot. My only complaint with this movie is that at one point Mulder and Scully seem to re-hash underlying problem in their relationship that slows the movie down. I recommend this movie if your fan but if your not I would pass it up and rent it.

I took the day off from work to see this movie with the intention that i would definitely have to see it a second time the same day. It was so awful. Gillian and David were fine, but the story was completely lame. It just didn't have the feel of The X-Files. As a 'Shipper', I was pleased to see a bit more intimacy in their relationship. OK. For those X-Philes out there (especially shippers) the movie was really good about the Mulder/Scully dynamic. Once again Chris Carter has developed the relationship behind the scenes. Its evolved in an interesting way and shows partnership in a whole different light. As for the plotline - don't expect aliens and monsters. This one is like Irresistable. Its about human disgust and the evil of man. with a little psychic weirdness thrown in. Chris Carter said this movie was about faith. and that is the overall theme. Especially if you are an xphile and the 2012 backstory remains. Overall, very different for an x-file. But still quite good. Remember, it isn't 2002 anymore.

My wife, who never liked the show, fell asleep. My father-in-law, who also never liked the show, took a walk through the theater lobby. My mother-in-law, who owns every season on DVD and has been obsessively waiting for this film, was insulted by what she saw and almost in tears because of her disappointment. Me? I just want my money back. It was awful. The "plot" was uncreative, the "twists" were absurd, and the resolution was an insult to anyone with even a fragment of a brain. At one point, I actually heard the man behind me say "are you serious?!" when a particularly lame Scully was able to connect a Bible verse mentioned by a pedophile priest and some mailbox numbers, which led to the rousing conclusion. If you loved the X-Files show, don't go see this movie. It's like going to your 10-year high school reunion and seeing the Homecoming Queen fat, bald and nasty. Leave the memory was it is.

Overall the movie was good. The plot was a bit weak but it created a great mood. Mulder/Scully relationship was wonderful. It was great to see them together. I miss the very unusual story-lines that we had in the past. It was great to see Walter Skinner. He never seems to age. David and Gillian were great. I hope we get another movie.

Loved it. It was great to see Mulder and Scully again... and together! That was a big plus. Although the storyline stayed away from the more convoluted myth arc stuff of the series, it was still an intriguing plot.

I was a huge X files fan and I enjoyed this film, was nice to deviate from the alien conspiracy theme. If that's what you hoped for, you will be disappointed as this is a standalone story. The plot was good and the story was suspenseful. The underlying story deals with the complexities of Mulder and Scully's relationship which was never fully addressed. X files fans who enjoyed the shows that were standalone mysteries will like this film.

it was an okay movie....not what i expected being an x-files fan. the story was kinda boring and slow...not real frights and no x-files typed stuff.

this movie was a very good episode of the X-Files, the same ole chemistry between Mulder and Sculley, albeit they are more mature, and Mulder is a bit more "out there" . It makes one long for the return of the series. It was a pleasant way to spend the morning, (of course I went to the $5.00 show), I might have been a bit miffed if I had paid $10.00. I think the story could have been developed a bit deeper. too many teasers, that went no where... tears of blood; the sick kid; why wasn't Skinner involved from the start?
