This movie is a Disney's way of remaking a great classic Dickens' story. It is funny where it should be, sad, and heartwarming when it should be, too. You can almost see Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman in the facial expressions of the main characters. Watching the movie in 3D is great fun.

I took my 6 year old granddaughter with me to see this movie and we both were very disappointed in it. I would not recommend this movie if you are a Jim Carrey fan. Maybe if they had stayed with the original story line for the Christmas Carol it might have been better. The only thing I liked about it was Jim Carrey did a great job but the ghosts used in the film could have been a lot better. I will not rent or buy this movie for my collection of films.

I loved it! I thought it was a very correct adaptation of the original. The 3D effects were awesome. We took our 6 yr old granddaughter, a few of the scenes were a little scary so I wouldn't take a younger child but she did ok! My husband didn't think it was as good as I did but I would go see it again & I'm a cheapskate. Once I spend money on a movie I don't go again. This one is worth it!

I read a few other critic reviews about kids not being able to follow the story. I suppose the cockney accents throughout the film will be difficult for children to understand. However, if you know the Dicken's novel, this movie accentuates the great story, with animation and brilliant 3-D effects. It is definitely worth watching.

We truly enjoyed this movie. It was a great telling of the story. Our 8 year old was in our laps with clammy, shaking hands for a fair part of the movie. The 3D was impressive but definitely added to the scariness factor for our daughter. Our 10 and 11 year olds loved it! For what it's worth, Mom and Dad really liked it, too!

Ok for adults but some parts are a little scary for younger children. I took my 7-year-old and I think she had difficulty following the story line. As an adult I'm familiar with the story but for someone that young who was not, it was a bit difficult. Great 3D effects!

What a great way to spend thanksgiving- Dinner and a movie. Upon reaching the theatre, my family (ages 13-50) decided unanimously to see A Christmas Carol in 3-D. The movie was well worth it, and featured stellar animation and great voice acting. The only bad part about watching the movie was the number of little kids that were bored through most of the movie, and scared through the rest. Parents, this is NOT your typical holly-jolly Disney cartoon. I DO NOT recommend this movie for anyone under 9 years old. It has some very dark and scary moments, but they hold true to the book.

We took our entire family with children ages 15, 12, 10, and 7. The older three liked the movie and LOVED the visual effects, while the 7 year old was consistently scared throughout. The title says Disney, but it is not a movie for the younger ones.
That being said, I personally loved the movie. The visuals are stunning, and the story is true to the Dickens original (including dialogue). It must be seen in the theater to be truly appreciated.

I liked it far better than I expected to, based on the reviews. I went because it was 3D, which I've never seen, and we had a free night. I'm so glad we went. As far as being slow, I always find the part leading up to Marley's appearance slow, whether it be a movie or a stage version.
My one criticism is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come sequence. Too much is added to utilize the 3D technology, and it extends the story unnecessarily. My husband said, "It was ... too... too..." and I said, "Too Jim Carrey?" and he said "Yeah."
I thought it was very well acted and the cinematography of London was wonderful. Without the 3D, it would've been just another Christmas Carol, and I would've waited to see it on video or regular TV.

This take on the Dickens classic was enjoyable . I expected something to happen at the end that didn't, but I still feel it should have so I want to take a star away for that. But otherwise this is good. Jim Carrey does a great job - doesn't even sound like himself. The special effects are great. Saw this movie last night with two 10-year olds and all of us (including the adults) loved it. In addition to Jim Carrey's wonderful performance as Scrooge, the aerial views of London were breathtaking and worth the price of admission. The re-telling of a, what has become, classic holiday tale is often challenging given the general population's familiarity with the basic story line. Although, imagery was a bit dark at times, frightening at other times, the story came across packing a great punch. The graphics were awesome and very realistic. My 6 year old and I found ourselves reaching out to touch the snowflakes as if they were falling around us. Although some of the language (vocabulary and syntax) was a bit developed for my child, with some debriefing the basic elements of the movie as well as the essential message was grasped by her. The genius was in the animation as well as the contemporary re-telling of the story; A Christmas Carol.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I am something of a Charles Dickens fan, and A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite stories. I honestly didn't expect to be satisfied with this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Disney stayed very close to the spirit (pun intended) of Dickens' tale, if not the letter. There was some playing up to the 3D medium, but nothing as bad as I feared. I took my six year old daughter to the movie, and there were some slightly intense moments for her, particularly with the end of the Ghost of Christmas Present sequence, and a good portion of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come sequence. However, at the end of the movie, she gave me a big hug and with a huge smile, said, "Merry Christmas, Daddy!"
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This was a great rendition of A Christmas Carol and right on the Dickens novel. We took our 8 year old and 2 older kids. It was fine for our 8 year old but I would definitely not take younger children. It is pretty scary throughout. The content is good but it is definitely very dark.

As someone who loves this Dickens tale and has seen almost every version, I found this to be a dark, very weird interpretation of a beautiful Christmas story. All the characters were scary looking, with extremely large heads and ugly facial features. The Christmas spirits were even worse, especially Christmas Present., when he grew older and shrunk to nothing. It was awful for us to see...but terrible for our kids ages 11 and 9 years. Save your money and rent or buy the classic A. Sim"s film, Muppet Christmas Carol, Scrooge (musical with Albert Finney) or any other adaptation and experience the magic of Dickens. If you do go, please leave the kids at home.
