My favorite part about this movie is the insight of how demons are manifest. The presence of the "demon" seems to evolve into a stronger existence in sync with Katie's fear and failing trust of her boyfriend Micah. The fact that Micah encourages the paranormal activity throughout the movie seems to make him out to be the true antagonist all along.
Although the predictability shaves points off the entertainment value as a movie, it turns out to make the plot seem more real.
I wasn't expecting to be affected much by this movie after watching the preview but it did leave me with a bit of an edgy feeling the next day at work. The fact that I crawl into and inspect dark tanks for a living didn't help.

I would not even call this a movie, its a sequence of a hand held shaky hard to watch home video. I actually wanted Mika to get knocked off, his obnoxious commentary thoughout was too much, & the poor girlfriend should take a few acting classes. A few clever thrills during nighttime shoot, but the cheezy ending with her smiling @ camera was simply off the hook. Does anyone know if this is actual video? Or is it really bad film making?

Okay, I'm pretty much not sure if the reason I wasn't scared (as much as I thought I would be) was because I read the synopsis a few days before I watched the movie, or maybe it really just wasn't scary?
I give this movie four stars because of the acting & how realistic it seemed. If the audience were able to see the "demon" in the movie, then it wouldn't have the same effect as the way they did it. There WERE some scenes though that bothered me a bit after watching it, like the one where Katie was on her bed looking at the camera & saying "Everything will be okay now" ? That scene bothered me just because it was way creepy.

This was a VERY fun movie to see. I am one of those "sick individuals" who laughs through scary movies... because of the reactions of those around me. There were LOTS of gasps, a few screams, some shocked shouts of fear and looking around many people had jackets covering their faces in fear! lol It was GREAT! Best part is the end! This movie is funny because of the way Mikah deals with things. But it has some really good "suspenseful" moments as well.

I was excited to go see this movie with my boyfriend because of all the hype.. Well I was disappointed, not one startling moment and it was very predictable. It seemed more like a comedy than a horror film because of the jokes Micah was making throughout the film. I fell asleep fine afterwards and didn't have any nightmares, and when I went back to my apartment alone, no sounds startled me.
What usually scares me are scary faces popping up out of nowhere so I was expecting some of that, but nothing like that happened, just banging sounds.
It had a good plot and good acting, just not scary at all. Also the ending was BAD and CHEESY! I heard Steven Speilberg re-did the ending but if he did, he did a BAD JOB!

I have to say this movie is by far one of the BETTER horror movies I've seen in a LONG time! I am very much a horror movie fan and there are parts of this movie that bring you to point of wanting to jump right out of your skin. Obviously a low budget movie, with only 4 characters in the entire movie, it kept my attention the entire time...the bedroom scenes keep you on edge and do not disappoint. See it... you will want to make it a day movie so you can sleep at night... othewise be ready for a night of restlessness. Definately one to purchase once released to DVD.

It was touted as "one of the scariest movies of all time." That's some big shoes to fill...
Did it have approximately 5 creepy moments or big scares... Yes.
But the pattern, timing and dialogue around each moment became predictable by about mid way through the movie.
Also, you stop caring for either of these characters, especially Micah, when they don't "do" what normal people would do... which is... GET THE "F" OUT! TURN ON THE LIGHTS! or stop the behavior that is bringing horror upon you.
I was glad when Micah got what he was asking for at the finale of the movie. He deserved it.
Scary at times...yeah. Precictable...yeah. "Scariest movie I've ever seen"... no.

Okay, so for those who left the theatre laughing about this movie, will (and I repeat WILL) have nightmares. I was expecting more. The scary parts were very realistic, well at least to me. My friend and I were literally glued to our seats the entire movie. It was the most frightening flick we've ever seen - and we're pretty jaded! The scenes had everyone in the theatre screaming. At the very end, when Micah comes flying through the door, I actually kicked the seat in front of me. Awesome film! I'd see it again tomorrow. Definitely a 5-star rating!

I was pleasantly surprised. Not the scariest movie ever seen, but there are some parts that are just plain FREAKY!! I don't ever remember getting chiils in a theater before, but there's one scene in particular...OMG!! Overall, good movie. Will I see it again when it gets it's wide release, YES! If there was anything that I disliked about the movie, it would the ending scene. I think the reason that I was remotely dissappointed by it was because I had read of the (supposed) original ending. If I had seen that one ,this would be one near-perfect movie! If you like to be freaked out, this movie could possibly embed itself in your head for awhile...especially when you're home alone.

I have never seen such a boring slow movie in my life. If you are honestly scared by this movie you must be easy to scare. It took almost an hour for anything somewhat good to happen. It never once made me jump or scared. I think I was more scared watching Lion King then this movie I would not recommend this movie at all.

Talk about having you at the edge of your seat.....the beginning of the movie is a little shaky, but then again, its being video taped, so the camera is constantly moving.....but as the movie gets going.....it never lets up.....and the ending is really something else.... Talk about sleepless night........and leaving the lights on at night!!!!! But regardless if the lights are on....if its going to happen......its going to happen!!! The part where micah is yelling out at the spirit/demon, brought back memories to me...I did the same thing about 10yrs ago, when my daughter had an encounter with the unknown....when I was alone in my home....i was yelling out at the spirit/demon to mess with me, to leave my child alone....

This movie was great, you have to understand that it is a HOME-VIDEO... It isn't suppose to be perfect nor good acting because it's very similar to the blair witch project! I was so blown away by this movie!!! I truly believed that the two actors were real people who really went throught this ordeal!!! I have never heard of either Micah Sloat or Katie Featherson. They had an awesome chemistry and the acting was impectable. The fear was so palpable and realistic. I think that the movie was not predicatable nor like anything I had seen before. I can equate it to the cleverness of "The Sixth Sense" in the fact that I did not see any of it coming. I was scared, but not overly, I was more interested in taking in all of the full effects of the movie. I recommend seeing it and I will absolutely see it again, possibly even buy the movie if it comes out on DVD!!!

Wow...I went with my husband and son thinking we were in for some fun. My husband nearly fell asleep and my son and I thought it was just ridiculous. What a yawn fest! I could have gotten more scares at home watching an old copy of Poltergeist. We were seriously disappointed after reading how scary it was supposed to be. Don't believe it. I saw a review in Entertainment Weekly giving this movie an "A," and I heard great buzz about it...but honestly, this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I wanted very much to like it. I tried to be scared.
The lead actress is so horribly bad you just can't believe anything she says. The lead actor fares much better, but you sort of feel sorry that he's in this awful joke of a movie. At two hours long there are only about four actual "scares" spaced about 30 minutes apart. It's very anti-climatic.
Bottom line: The camera shakiness makes you dizzy. The acting is HORRIBLE! The movie is boring and NOT scary. The director has no talent, but thinks he's very clever (he's not). Skip this one! Zombieland is much more fun.

This movies was pretty good. i couldnt even tell if it was real or unreal. it looked so real it was awesome. I would definetly recommend anyone to go watch it and find out for yourself!

Paranormal Activity is a very well made horror movie. The acting was very good and very believable. I felt as if I knew Micah and Katie personally. For anyone who loves the horror genre, this movie is a must see!

This is a really bad movie. For a first film it was not too bad, but as a horror movie, this movie fails epically. The only part that even made my heart skip half a beat was when the chick throws the dude into the camera, other than that I was either bored or laughing my butt off because of sheer stupidity. Don't spend the money to see this in theatres, if you want to see this wait till it comes out on DVD.

This movie was nothing fancy and no special effects. It was just a CLASSIC SCARY MOVIE! I LOVED IT!! It was well worth the long wait in line just to get into the theatre. Luckily we bought our tickets online because it was SOLD OUT and we were in an oversized theatre!! There wasn't an empty seat in the house until about halfway through some people walked out and admitted on the way out that they were too scared to watch anymore! I would definitely do it all over again!

I love a good scary movie, This one scared the pants off me. I'm really into the paranormal, so when I went I really wasn't expecting much, but I was wrong. It had humor and some very frightning things. I actually screamed several times. LOVED IT.
