This was a wonderful performance of La Boheme. From the set design to the vocal abilities it was outstanding. I think this is better than actually going to the Met You have a closer view and back stage interviews. What more could you ask . ( oh and the conductor is a cutie!)

I enjoyed my 1st experience of seeing an opera via simulcast live from the Met. I have seen this opera at the Met & I can say I truly felt like I was there attending this movie. The extras were great too. Star interviews - live - & the moving of the sets. Overall, fantastic. The closest you'll ever gete to attending at the Met.

My favorite opera. This production has to be the best I've seen. Angela Gheorghiu was magnificent, and the rest of the cast completed a marvelous performance. Puccini has no equal. The result was glorious. Adding to the experience were backstage views during intermission showing scene changes, together with interviews with singers, conductor, and department managers such as stage crew, set designers, wardrobe, and scenery.

As you probably know, this is a love story with a tragic ending. It's very well-done, well-sung and well-acted.
The only weak links are the male characters other than Rodolfo, but their inability to put life into their characters is not essential.
The big stars--Mimi, Rodolfo, and Musetta are brilliantly done, and all in good voice.
Lovely costumes and appropriate scenery and staging make this a big success.
Even if you always thought you'd never like an opera, give this a chance. You might be surprised!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As a displaced New Yorker and former Met subscriber I was in heaven! I put off going to the movies broadcasts because I didn't think I would really enjoy it. Was I ever wrong!!
Sitting in that seat, I felt as if I could just melt into the screen and be there. I was even looking to see who was in my old seat..lol..
The performers were great and the close ups were an extra bonus not afforded at a live opera.
I missed the chandeliers going up because of a broadcast glitz but I have tickets for the next one already so I'll seeit then.
I'm so sorry I waited this long to go but will never miss any to come.
Never saw people eating popcorn at an opera before though.

La Boheme was FABULOUS! I've attended the Met, and I've seen La Boheme many times - live and on DVD - and this was the best yet. The voices, sound, set - total production was awesome quality. A big bonus was the close-up performers' expressions, the behind-the-scenes views, the interviews and the spectacular clips of previous shows. I will definitely recommend it to friends.

This is better than going to the opera in town. Not only is it the Met, but the backstage and orchestra pit sections are a thrill. This is a brilliant idea to have these performances in the threater at an affordable price for everyone. We have been going since they started. This week we took my daughter and her boyfriend, who has never been to an opera. He is ready to go again - and another generation will learn to love good music.

Fantastic! I am hooked on opera from now on. You can practically see the tears in their eyes and the emotion in the face. And the interviews of the singers and conductor. it was like being on stage with them - even when we saw them from behind the curtain - go out and take their bows and cheers. That part was fascinating - seeing the changing of the stages and how many people it takes to make it work. Also, being in fashion design, I loved seeing the attention to detail in both the garments and their background. Very authentic!
Can't wait to order tickets for the next one!

This was an excellent opportunity to see a first rate production of a wonderful opera. I can't afford the Met any other way. The house was packed unexpectedly so had really rotten seats but I still very much enjoyed it. The backstage peaks were fun as well.

Even this forum shows how specifically this amazing simulcast has united so many people throughout this huge country in their good spirit and positive feelings. This performance of "La Boheme" was celestial one: the ambients on the stage together with the artists - perfectionists in their art of singing and, in the same time, of transformation into their roles (what emotional expressions of their faces we saw, which would not be possible from the seats in the Met opera house), together with the perfect orchestra and the very accomplishing maestro Luisotti, brought the magic to the audiences in this country and around the world. Thank you, all, for such an opportunity.

Well done and incredibly interesting for this non-opera fan. We did a fun thing -- my daughters are scattered across the US. So I "took" them to the opera and we cell phoned each other during intermissions to share impressions.
The performance was wonderful, as are nearly all Met performances. But unique to the broadcast, they take you backstage, you see the three-storey buildings "flying" into place, the streets being wheeled in, the path the conductor walks to the podium and , especially fun for me, the NY audience as they came in, winter coats and all (I'm in So Cal, where we don't even OWN such coats!).
This was our second broadcast -- we can hardly wait for next season!

This was our first HD Theatre experience for the Met, and we really enjoyed it. The videography is first rate, and the surround sound is excellent. Renee Fleming's interviews and commentary are first rate, and it's fun to watch the backstage views. My only complaint - the intermissions are too long. If there's going to be 15 minutes of backstage stuff and interviews during each intermission, then we don't need ANOTHER 15 minutes of intermission added to it. Maybe 5 each at most.

I went with my adult son and daughter to celebrate my birthday. What an exquisite experience it was to see Puccini's "La Boheme" up so closely and vividly!!! Seeing each singer's facial expressions, the details of costumes and sets, the beauty of winter and spring in Paris, and, most of all, thrilling to the magesty of the beautiful operatic voices of each character created magic in the theater for all of us, who saw this amazing performance. Please bring more of these operas to us as soon as possible.

I have to say I was filled with trepidation upon buying My ticket to this event.
I had heard of the Met-Opera series from a friend in Belgium, He ranted about something He had seen so I decided to try it out.
I have loved Opera for many years and this was the next best thing to being there!
Although I was a bit disappointed in the "HD" effect, the production and sound was fabulous and worth every dollar I paid!
The cast was incredible and I loved the backstage looks that were presented, as well as the cast interviews. Much more than You get at a live performance.
I am so looking forward to the next presentation.

The Franco Zeffirelli production was beautiful. Ramon Vargas and Angela Gheorghiu were both in fine voice, and offered engaging acting. The camaraderie of the starving artist was truly humorous with good chemistry. Musetta, performed by Ainhoa Arteta, proved suitably flamboyant, although her garb in the cafe Momus struck me as a bit of homage to Scarlett. Renee Fleming as host was funny, smart, and real. Camera angles for the HD broadcast were mercifully simple and let the production speak for itself. Viewed from a multiplex in suburban Atlanta (Lawrenceville), the sound dropouts were simply maddening. Some other performances at this location have been marred by technical glitches ranging from minor to severe. Most have been with sound dropouts, and some with screen fades or freezes. I am curious if this is representative of the technology or isolated to this location. The complex is fairly new and for films, the sound and picture have always been very good.

When opera comes together on its many levels it sweeps the viewer into a full of wonder adventure. This performance was perfect, sung with passion and the joys and sorrows of the characters loves and foibles. Getting to go backstage added to the excitement and insights that one actually doesn't get when at the Met! Rene Fleming, a lovely Diva in her own right, was a magnificent interviewer, and the unscripted last moment delay of the conductor to conduct the last act was fun. His interpretation rivaled the classic Beecham recording, and Angela and Ramon conveyed the glory of the music and the sadness and joy of the lovers. Musetta stole the show in Act II with her incredible singing and beauty, wowee zowee... Hope the Met puts this onto DVD soon!

This was my first experience watching an opera as a movie. It was really great to have such terrific seats. You could see so much better than at a theater. The behind the scenes was great. Our party of four attended at the Ontario Mills AMC on April 5 and were most disappointed with the transmission. The first 5 minutes were blank screen with sound, then the picture appeared and it was very dark. During the intermissions you couldn't hear Rene Fleming's interviews because of the background noise. Nonetheless.......we enjoyed it very much.
On a positive note, we also attended Tristan and Isolde on March 22 and everything was PERFECT.
For those of us who can't afford opera in Los Angeles (let alone a plane ticket to New York), this is a wonderful way to experience the new singers, the creative staging and the beautiful music.

The Met HD Simulcasts are fantastic!! The close up views, great sound and the behind the scenes access are all extraordinary! I went to the Met to see two of the performances this year, but I really would have seen more had I stayed home and gone to the simulcast instead! So, GO! It is a bargain and a treat!
I hope that the Met adds more operas to the roster next season and the that Philly area theaters continue to carry them. I will go to every one next year!

great experience. great back scene views and interviews.
to the theater: next time turn on all the speakers. opera isn't surround sound ... having music come from the rear speaker would have enhanced the sound experience.
