Shrek 4 comes roaring back after nearly destroying it's reputation in #3. IV is punchy and funny, and had a great plot, largely leaving behind the twisted fairy tale themes that worked so well in 1 and 2, but got tired by 3, and striking out on a solid and thoughtful action story. Rumpelstiltskin is the most memorable and funniest Shrek villain so far.
Two notes: The witches are somewhat more menacing than anything yet seen in the Shrek world, and be prepared to think about and explain what an "alternative time line" is if you have a 5 year old.

The 3D animation was the best part of the movie. Being the 4 edition of Shrek, this was by far the worst. My son loved all of the Shrek movies til this one, half way thru he was asking to leave. Unless you want to see it in 3D, wait for the DVD to come out.

I am particular with movies and have been satisfied with most of the Shrek movies. Considering this movie being in 3D would be really good my hopes must of been to high because this movie falls under my hopes in the future. I was disappointed, bored and the 3D was mildly entertaining however I wouldn't waste my $27 for a 3D movie or the standard price for the non 3D version.

My hubby, 5 YO son, 2 YO daughter and I really enjoyed the movie. It was a bit intense for my sensitive son, but most kids movies are. :D The story message was really great - appreciating what you have now. The animation was fantastic. The storyline was probably a bit rushed at times, but it is a kids movie and you only have so long to get to the point. I thought it was a good mix of humor, although the first two probably had a bit more (didn't see 3).
If you don't want to see it in 3D, you probably don't need to see it on the big screen. I feel that way about most movies though.

Not as good as the other 2. Short with a weird plot. Gags were weak and not laugh out loud. My 6 and 7 year old thought it was funny but that says it all. Shrek 1 and 2 were excellent. This one was noticeable for absences of John Cleese and Princess Fionas Mum and small part by Cameron Diaz. Better off waiting for DVD / netflix / apple TV release

After seeing Shrek 3, I was apprehensive to see the final movie. Shrek 3 was no where near as exciting or met the caliber of the first two installments of the series. Having all that in mind, I was THRILLED to see Dreamworks bounce back with the last Shrek movie! It was by far the funniest and the story line was great! It kept moving and I was almost sad when we came to the end of the movie. I wanted more. I think this was THE BEST of the series! It is definitely a MUST SEE!

I loved Shreak 1 and 2, but the 3rd one was a bit of a disappointment for me so I didn't expect much this time. However, after watching this movie, this one may be my favorite out of the four. It had both expected humor (i.e. donkey) and unexpected humor (i.e. 'do the roar' boy). Also, the movie wasn't just funny. It reminded myself to be thankful for and to cherish the present instead of wishing for something I don't have. Every Shrek movie was different, even though they mostly used the same characters. I can't say this enough: The makers of Shrek are geniuses.

The prior Shrek movies would have a variety of adult humor throughout them. It made you think, and laugh. Even if it was an animated feature, it was just as fulfilling to an adult as a child. Probably because we understood more of the adult humor. This one didn't cut the mustard like the others did. Don't get me wrong, it was good. At least the 3D version. No silly 3D tricks were used (that gets old). This episode was somewhat of a darker version. The humor we've come to enjoy from one version to the next just wasn't there this time. This is more of a sappy love story than anything else. A childrens birthday party was behind us, in two rows. Not a single time did I get kicked in the back of my chair. Perhaps they got more out of the movie then the adults. I went to laugh. Although comical here and there, it wasn't enough. Maybe I expected too much?
