The youngest children in the theater seemed overwhelmed or even bored at times, but there wasn't a dry eye in the house among the adults.

It made me laugh and cry. The kids (ages 2-9) all loved it. I covered the 2 year olds eyes and ears during a few scenes (that's why it's PG) A wonderful story.

i thought it was gonna get boring at some point but it didnt. it was both sad and funny. the sadness sent some tears down my cheek thinking i might end up like carl(the old man) lonely with no one understanding you. it was the kind of funny that almost made me want to go to the restroom. it had me thinking about it all the way to my house and all night until now

I appreciated the story but young kids cannot connect with Carl and my 5 year old couldn't even remember Russell's name when the movie was over; that's who she was so looking forward to seeing. It doesn't deliver on the humor....I was a little deflated....

From what the trailers indicated I thought the movie would be about a crotchety old man and an idealistic scout. It was that but there was another part of the plot that made the movie even better. We come across Karl a man on the twilight of life living in the home he helped restore. With everything he knows and loves disappearing his home becomes his refuge from the world. Enter Russell, begining his adventure through life. The two form an unlikley partnership that developes into a wonderful friendship. Kudos to all character involed in this project. I recomend it for children of all ages.

I had said "5 stars" until I read other reviews. But yes, there are dark parts, This is NOT A MOVIE FOR 4 YEAR OLDS . This is a great movie because it is entertaining AND thought provoking, not just slapstick and full of silly characters. We laughed, cried, and thought . We talked about it all through dinner. I can see where they would have trouble marketing this film! It's a GREAT movie to move kids from the unreality of protected childhood to understanding that there is some tragedy coming down the line... It reminds them that heroes may be fallible. But it says, "Children, life can be worth it, with its ups and downs,no matter what happens...you can always have an adventure and JOY!!"

I took my children ages 7 & 11 to the movie and they both enjoyed it. I had to explain the beginning to my 7 year old which is a pictorial account of the lead characters life. Three separate times my daughter asked me if I was crying. So, funny with a dark side.

My two 5 yr old kiddos, my husband and I all loved it! Great story for all age groups, though a little emotional for the grown-ups--at least it was for me and for another mom sitting near us. Definitely one of the most entertaining and endearing animated movies I've seen in awhile. We loved Wall-E and we loved Bolt...I'd rank this above both.

In short: The film is fantastic. My only concern is some younger viewers may have questions about the adult themes in the film that deal with death. But I guess that explains the PG rating. Otherwise it's a magical ride from beginning to end that ranks among Pixar's elite.

We have 5 kids, with age ranges from 3 to 12. We decided to take all of them for the movie and we were not disappointed. Engrossing and beautifully done. I attended with ttwo other senior adults and all of us felt the same. We do believe it perhaps is better suited for adults ,as the little 5-6 year old girl behind us kept asking her father questions about what was happening on the screen, the nature of which indicated she didn't have a clue as to what was going on, e,g., "What happened to his mother?" and "Where is his grandmother?"

My husband and I took 4 of our granddaughters ages 3, 5, 6 and 8. We were a little nervous about the 3 year old, but she sat facinated, especially once the balloons came out. We especially enjoyed seeing how their life developed through the years, and even my granddaughters came away with a moral to the story. "Things aren't as important as people." We really enjoyed the movie and will tell everyone we know to see it.

I took two of my grandkids, ages 6 and 9. They loved it, and so did I. At first, I thought it was sort of slow-moving in the beginning, but my grandson was sitting on the edge of his seat with excitement for most of the second half of the movie. The movie was great for me but I took my four year old niece was was caught completely off guard. Its much too scary for small children and the theme is aimed at a much older audience. I missed part of the movie due to the fact that my niece was so scared she started crying took me a few minutes to calm her down and a few more to convince her everything was going to be ok.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Awesome movie! Felt it right in the heart, Must watch, all ages will love it, young and old. it will make you laugh and cry both.

Even though my 3 year old is getting older, I always have a fear that taking her to the movies would have me wanting to strangle her. =o)
This movie was great. It gave you some teary moments (although I controlled myself), but I really did laugh out loud several times during this movie on more than one occasion. This movie was entertaining for my daughter AND myself. I would totally recommend this movie for all.
Even the preview movie with the clouds and storks was enjoyable.

My boyfriend and I try to take his autistic brother to the animated kids movies, since he loves to see them. All three of us loved "UP". It made us laugh and cry, and laugh some more. We want to go and see the 3D one next!! I recommend this movie to everyone...it is great fun to see and it will make your day....your week.... and your month!!!!
