I took my wife and 8 year old daughter to see this flick. My wife and I felt that this movie had too much tragedy, pain, and 'adult' subject matter for a children's movie - as quoted by another reviewer: "the pain of growing old alone, the death of a spouse, inability to conceive, public humiliation, and mental health issues". The violence with having the dogs shooting at the boy, and the end result of the villain falling to his 'assumed' death were not what I consider to be entertaining from Pixar's kid selection - rather more like what I would find from adult titles like "Die Hard" and "Indiana Jones". I was not pleased with how I felt leaving the movie theater. Try a little harder for the kids next time Pixar - Toy Story this was not.

This is not a good movie for kids under 5. My 3.5 year old grandson did not enjoy it (neither did I) and we walked out. I know it is getting good review, but don't be fooled, skip this one .

I've come to not expect too much from kids movies....sometimes they are great, many times the plot is recycled and predictable. UP was colorful, vibrant, full of life, included heartaches, heartbreaks, and of course, the triumph of good over evil...the dawning of an unlikely friendship that would last, bullies getting their comeuppance from a super dog named Doug, - in all an UP-lifting movie. Some of the sentiment may have been above the heads of the younger audience, but they did not notice as the colors and the action were enough for them.

My entire family enjoyed this movie. The story never had a dull moment. Some scenes were hilariously laugh out loud funny. They need to make more movies like this. Also the 3D effects were amazing! A must see!

Like Toy Story, this movie works on so many levels -- great story, important themes and THOROUGHLY entertaining. For those who think that themes are too "mature" for small kids, you should give children more credit. Yes, there is some sadness and some scaryness -- but it's all germain to the overall story. Both of my sons -- ages 7 and 31/2 loved it. It's one for our family library when it comes out on DVD.

My family and I are huge fans of Disney Pixar, Toy Story and Finding Nemo being our top 2. This was not one of our favorites...so sad. My 5 year old little boy spent the about 45 minutes of the movie asking me what happened to the baby and why the lady went to heaven....not really the conversation I had in mind for a Friday evening at the movies. My 3 year old said it was not funny like Toy Story... Overall, a huge disappointment.

Funny, suspenseful and often moving, UP is a wonderful adventure story for all ages. Pixar has set the bar so high with previous efforts like Finding Nemo and Ratatouille, and I have to admit this ranks somewhere below those two on my list of favorite Pixar films. But it's still an amazing journey and, above all -- like every one of Pixar's films -- every scene and moment is a joyful celebration of creativity.

I thought the movie was okay. Other friends went to see this with their kids and thought it was so good, unfortunately I was mildly disappointed. There were actually a few sad scenes in the movie that might be hard for children to interpret. There was a little humor throughout the movie. The animation and the details were great though. If you go see this movie, I recommend seeing a matinee where it is cheaper.

Lots of jokes for kids and adults alike in this one. I enjoyed the movie.
Some people complain about it being a sad story, but... the sad element is integral to the plot. Without the sad part the subsequent scenes would not have made sense, or would not have been that dramatic.
Probably not a movie for kids. There's this 4 year old sitting next to me who kept moving around, as if she wasn't really interested. 8+ years old would probably get it.

I enjoyed the beginning of the movie with the couple and the little boy. I was very surprised at the action scenes with the dogs and shooting at a little boy. I was not very happy that this movie was even allowed just a PG rating. It wasn't a kid movie by my standards.

I read several reviews before I took my family to see this movie. I saw that there were people who gave UP a bad review because the movie was too sad. After seeing UP I wondered if those people saw the same movie as I did. True there are parts of the movie that seems a bit sad, but the overall message of the movie was to treat life as the adventure it is. No matter how old you are, or your circumstances you need to live life to the fullest. UP is a great movie for the entire family and I predict this movie will be remembered as one of the all time Disney classics like Bambi or Cinderella.

I really liked this movie, as did my 8 year old and my husband. My 4 and 6 year olds found some parts scary, but liked it. I was surprised at the emotional depth of the movie. I didn't think some topics needed to be included - like what happened to the boy's parents - Not integral to the story and goes over the kids' heads. I was also suprised at some of the "action" scenes. There's a scene with fire that caused a child that sat right behind us to burst out screaming/crying. The parents decided to leave. Some of the animals are not nice either. All around a good movie, but I would hesitate taking younger than 7 or 8 year olds.

Pixar has out done themselves. Not only is the computer animation fantastic, but the storyline and underlying messages are great! I found myself laughing, crying and holding my breath a few times.
I like the life lessons of; friendship can bridge generations; people/relationships are more important than things (the house); humans are to take good care of nature; don't avoid living your life today, because you are stuck in the past; help the underdog (Kevin, the bird); and many more!
However, this movie might bring up questions about death (Carl's wife and Muntz). Also, I would have rather seen Muntz float away rather than fall. I would like to NOT have seen Carl hit the mailbox-steeling man in the head. But all in all, ADORABLE!

Good movie overall. Thematically a little advanced for young children, but my 5 and 6 year old did fine even with the sad beginning. The action scenes at the end were good and not too difficult for them - they were roughly the same as the action at the end of Monster's Inc. Very good story - well thought out and the characters related well to each other.

We took our son (4 years old) to see this movie for his first movie at the theater. He had a great time. He didn't really understand everything in the movie, but he still loved it! My husband I thought it was a great movie. Maybe not always appropriate for young children, but it was still great. The animation was wonderful, we plan on buying this movie when it comes out on DVD.

Should have known PG with some peril and action and Disney that our kids weren't old enough. Theatre.. is there some sound level requirements? The sound was so loud my mother put plugs in her ears and my son held his hands over his. Difficult to interest our children. The little boy, bird, and dog and balloons held some appeal. They were starting to get interested when the evil dogs entered the picture which were terrifying for little kids. We left. I give it 3 since I would have liked to see the whole thing and if your kids are older it might be a good movie.

Too much violence for young children to witness. Very disappointed that Disney would put a movie out portraying so much violence. Underlying story was heartfelt but could have been dealt with in a much better way. It scared my grandkids ages 5 and 7.

This is an audult movie made for kids - took my 5 and 7 year old Grandchildren- have told my Children to see it even without kids.
Most of the time I dislike cartoon type films - this was unbelievable

This movie had a sweet, heartwarming story line, yet it was a bit advanced for any child under 10 or 11.
There was much more violence than we were prepared for. Most of the little kids around us were crying, and I heard a lot of "I'm scared!" from the audience.
I wish Disney and Pixar would stick to nice stories with no fighting and fearful moments for their kid friendly movies.
Some suspense is alright, but this was just too intense for little kids.
