Don't recommend for small children as there's a lot over their heads but it wouldn't be harmful to them and they may enjoy the animation/animals, etc. My husband and I really thought it was entertaining and thought-provoking. I shed a few tears near the beginning and end.

I was expecting good things based on good reviews, however I don't know if a cartoon movie has ever touched me in such a deep place before! I cried within the first 20 minutes! I think the real life situations are portrayed well enough without being overwhelming for the younger crowd. I agree the dog Dug is the perfect comic relief to the sadder moments; he gives plenty of good oneliners my husband and are repeating over again for laughs!

Overall the movie was excellent and my three year old loved it. I think that some of the movie content (death of spouse, parent abandonment) might be a little much for the 5-7 year old group, but it went right over my little one's head. Other than that, the graphics were excellent, the comedy was family oriented and it was not preachy (see: Wall-e). I thought it was a great family movie.

At an 8:00 PM show in the movieplex in Downtown Disney: Fabulous movie, great story. Viewed among younger members of the audience as well as adults. It was enjoyed thoroughly by all, no fidgets at all. All were quiet and attentive during the initial part of the show, you could have heard a pin drop. Show held their attention (and mine) throughout. Right before Dug was introduced, there were whispers of "the dog". This audience was really primed for the show, really into the story. over all i liked the movie and was glad that it didn't have any hidden adult language or topics. but i was slightly disappointed in the speed of the overall movie. it had a very slow nonverbal beginning, then after some fun in the jungle there was a lot of focus on the "bad' guys chasing the good guys. the pack of "bad" dogs was a little too much for my 4 year old. this is a movie that we would rent or netflix, but i'm not sure i would buy it for my movie library.

I went to see this last night, two couples and four kids in tow -- ranging from 12 to16 -- and everyone loved it. The story line is not the same old Disney formula and addresses the following--first love, growing up, aging, death and revisiting youthful dreams and adventure during old age ---albeit with beautiful imagery, color, tears and laughter. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the Pixar movies because they are the only kid's movies that an adult can sit through without wanting to slit their wrists and this may be my favorite by far. Can't wait for Toy Story 3!

Why is it that Pixar can gently show us truths that other studios can't or won't? They show us how important family is, how important connections to the ones we love are, how important it is to take care of our world and each other. And when Pixar does it, they make money. Perhaps because they make movies that speak to kids without talking down to them, and speak to adults without being crass. I cried through this whole movie at the love old Mr. Carl showed for his wife during her life and for her memory during his adventures. I can only hope my husband and I have that kind of love, and I hope you and your significant other can share that kind of love as well. Go see this movie with someone you love.

Wonderful movie for the whole family! My 8 year old and 4 year old thoroughly enjoyed it....as did I! Will definitely be adding this to the DVD collection when it comes out.

I know that Disney/Pixar usualy makes movies that can pull some emotion out of the coldest of people... however this movie was done no justice by the previews.
I don't think I have shed this many tears in a movie, EVER!!! This movie was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The emotion behind the main charecter was amazing. The opening montage, without a single word being said, had eveyone in the theater weeping. Don't expect to walk in and out of their being depressed. This movie has plenty of humor that you would grow to expect from a Pixar movie.
You will walk out of this movie refreshed and with an outlook that you just can't take things in life for granted.
