If you're expecting an action thriller, don't bother. There's plenty of action, but the story rules this movie. Washington and Oldman are wonderful, the photography is fascinating, and the last 20 minutes or so find you with a wry smile, reassembling all of the details you thought you already understood. See it twice.

Don't forgo seeing this movie just because it talks about religion. If you're a Denzel Washington fan, this is one of his best roles yet. There's a mix of everything in this movie, lots of action with just the right amount of comedy mixed in with a great story to boot. I saw this movie not really knowing what it was about and left knowing this is one I'll purchase on DVD.

I thought that the film was unoriginal because of its plot, as well as Denzel Washinton's character. In some ways the film illustrated a future that could possibly come true. Furthermore, the film was interesting, suspensful, climatic the whole time. I definately recommend this film.

I did enjoy this movie, even thought i didn't know how i would was going to feel once i realized how religious based it was. I was glad to have seen it and will rent it on DVD but would not buy it.

I went into this movie thinking that I wouldn't like it that much. I'm not one for western movies or the like and I am famous for falling asleep on movies that drag. I must say that this movie kept interested the entire time. This is a different type of movie for The Hughes Brothers, and a great choice!

My two sons, my father and my self really enjoyed this movie, I am not a bible basher, but the story line and action was brilliant, you can always tell a good movie when the time goes by quickly, we did not seem to be in there for half an hour let alone nearly two. We loved the twist at the end.

I didn't think I would like this movie, especially since most of the people in the audience were in their late teens and early twenties. Much to my surprise, I found it to be interesting. I want to see it again to see what I missed the first time around.

A similar movie out now, "The Road" is much, much better. The Book of Eli is the Mad Max / John Carpenter type of film. Cold, boring, mean spirited and it doesn't play that well. The Road is far more gripping and humanistic yet The Book of Eli hits the big theaters, why?

The movie takes place after the world has destroyed itself. There is a man named Eli who is a prophet and his mission is to get the bible to the west coast. A little slow at the beginning but builds as it goes. This movie was not what i expected but so much more! I cant say much other than its a film that is thought provoking and engaging. Any other words about the film would ruin it.

The movie starts off nicely and keeps you interested until mid movie where it starts to drag, there are some nice action scenes but very little bibilcal references. I'm not the biggest Denzel fan but most of his movies are usually good, I only paid $6 bucks so I'm not too disappointed.( see it for yourself you might be happy with it)

Another action movie with a weak story line. It was entertaining. As usual, with the technology available today the visuals were as good as most big budget movies. Denzel and Oldman gave good performances. As for the rest of the cast there were some weak performances.
Not a movie I would recommend. See it on DVD.

I expected Mad Max meets Last Temptation, and it started out that way, but then it just became another Hollywood corporate wrapup the ending and save the girl. Starts off nice, and has a twisty ending that explains why half the stories in the Bible make no sense and are totally unreal. I did enjoy the movie, and to be honest, as a big Denzel fan, his low key mode was blown away by Gary Oldman. Gary saves this film, His maniacal fanaticism is a perfect balance to Denzel's cool, Godly nature. And like "The Invention of the Lie" it points out the craziness of religion, and actually reminds us to believe in God, and to be weary of religion. Great after-movie dinner discussion.

The movie was well acted. Suspenseful and held you to the very end until you discover what the focus of the movie was on. Action sequences were great not too over the top. Good job to Denzil Washington for performing his own stunts. Gary Oldham's character was profound in the power of the religion. Keep open mind and go see the movie.

I thought the use of black and white was effective, but a little too much after a while. I thought the plot was good and reasonable considering the flaws of the lead character. Feeling the warm of the sun on the face., highten hearing and other senses were suttle clues. The end was very good. Some movies I have seen were very good until the end example Bad Lieutenant, but the ending of The book of Eli was excellent.

I'll watch Denzel in anything...but when he traveled east to go west the movie went south. I got it, "The force was with him", but I like a little more exposition with my Yoda than just being jumbled all in the last two minutes. Grace didn't exactly play much part in the movie, more Old Testament than New, and though my appreciation of The Good Book was renewed, whom of God's messengers brought all the other books? A sequel???
