Great action and adventure. Denzel....what can I say, when you are great? Edge of your seat and not boring or slow movie. Good message and it has a surprising twist ending. Not one to be missed. One I'd like to see again. One thing some violent parts if your squeamish...I had to turn away a few times but that's no reason not to go.

A movie in which you can not blink or you will miss an important element. Powerful. Great script. Wonderful performance by Denzel and supporting cast. You will come away understanding the power of "the Book".

This was a great movie along the line of Mad Max (with a conscience added). Excellent and believable effects through beautifully stark cinematography. I highly recommend, but it's not appropriate for my pre-teens who want to see it due to scenes of violence against women.
The end was a surprise and was not in the least predictable. Denzel Washington is amazing in this film.

This is a great connection between Eli and God, you can tell that his faith continues to keep him strong and safe through his tough travels. That part of the movie was wonderful for me. Kind of an "Eye Opener." Unfortunately, beyond that aspect of the movie, I was a little disapointed. The action was decent and the ending threw in a nice twist, but otherwise, (to me) it lacked a solid point of intrest. Washington was of course a great actor as usual. Glad I saw it, but won't be an owner.

Its classic Denzel. Finally a movie that uses its action to supplement the plot instead of a horrible movie with awesome action scenes. The man knows how to pick a script and the the ending was one of the most original in years. I'd see it again.

I enjoyed the movie though I figured out the twist before it happenned. I didn't think Denzel was in that good of shape to perform the fight scenes, did he or was that a stand-in? Overall good movie with great supporting cast!

As I read the other reviews, I agree there was violence. Yet it was needed in this apocalyptic setting. I had no idea what this movie was about so I especially left the theater with a great feeling. I absolutely loved the message and think it should remind us of our purpose. Religious or not, you will find a way to connect with this movie. I applaud Warner Brothers for putting a movie onscreen with a great message.

This is a good movie and Denzel Washington is excellent as always. Seemed a little more violent to me than it needed to be, which made much of the movie pretty disgusting. Good message, but if you want to be happily entertained, try something else.

This was a great movie! I was telling people about it on the ride home from my phone. I know it is rated R but do not let that keep you away. There is no nudity scenes in it. There is violence but for reason. You will be amazed with the amount of faith and love for God one man can have through very hard tough times.

This Movie really was the best movie of the year for me. It had great action in it so guys will definitely like it. My fiance loved it. As a christian woman it had great meaning to it for me. The ending brought me to tears. It had good principals and symbolism.

It was an excellent movie. Some would say that it started out slow, but it was setting the background-showing the lost of hope. It also reminds us that sometimes we get wrapped up in what we are suppose to do, that we forgot to help others. As other reviewers stated, there is a major twist, that makes you go ah-ha. The ending suggest the return of hope.

Solid performance by DW. Tough, original, thought provoking story with excellent acting. I can't believe Hollywood actually had positive Christian vibes in a major motion picture - and it was done in a smooth and acceptable tone that everyone can appreciate. It does start off slow and can seem desolate...
however once it takes off- Denzel's travels are worth watching-you overcome the brief gore. He is a great actor as usual...

My issue with this movie is that nothing important happens until the end where there's a twist. The movie is spent showing events that make the twist so incredulous. Action scenes are just ok. With today's action scenes it's hard to stand out in that area. Character build-up: pretty much none. You don't really get to know anyone, including DW's character. When DW's mission is over, nothing really changes for anyone. One more religious book is added to a collection, DW is gone, and the girls walks off into the sunset set saying she's "going home" in a way that seems to mean that it's a better place now - which it's not. Nothing changes for anyone in the movie and nothing changed for me throughout it. For me, that's a sign of a bad movie.

Two thumbs up for the Book of Eli. I got the context, although I'm not very religious. Set in a post-apocolypse environment, the dry desperation of the characters and the journey of the hero to keep safe a thing that could restore the human conscience and the goodness was set against a villain who would use that same tool to control the masses. It was a good story, played well by its actors, with some awesome effects and cool fighting.

STOP PUTTING SPOILERS IN YOUR REVIEWS PEOPLE!!
Sheesh. I've read two reviews in as many pages that spoils one of the big twists at the end.
Secondly, the movie was great. I thought I wouldn't like it because of the religious undertones but I was pleasantly surprised. It gets its message across without being preachy or pushy, something alot of Christians should learn to do.
Great story, excellent characters, and good old bloody fight scenes. What else do you need?

This movie was awesome. It has religious overtones, but rings true with how the world would be after a nuclear "end-all" war.
There are reminders of the "5th Element" in the acting of Gary Oldman and the situations he finds himself in.
This movie surpassed my expectations in a big way and there is definitely more than meets the eye in this film. I am actually going to see this again.

Beautifully filmed in Black and White. The CG and sound effects were also a plus. I loved everything about this movie. If you are a born again believer in God and the Bible this movie will make more since to you than the non believers. Yes there is violence and some bad language, but that adds to the realism of the setting. The ending will make you go WOW, and will have you talking at Starbucks for hours afterwards. I went to this movie expecting a Mad Max, but walked out thinking God is good!!

Denzel has a presence like no other on the big screen. That said, this role isn't dazzling, it's quiet, reverent, irreverent and above all - clear. In a post-apocolyptic world of destruction and debauchery, there is a true light. The depths of depravity don't deter Eli from completing his mission, but it's a dark and dreary journey toward the continuim. The movie was slow in points, and I found a couple of the ending revelations confusing and not fully explained (where they should have been). Grim cinematography by design, I was wishing for a literal rainbow in the end; even though I'd just received a virtual one.

Like many of the others I was pleasantly suprised by the movie, I had guessed from the previews that the book was a Bible, the fact that it was printed in braile was a curve. I also enjoyed the acting, Denzel and Gary were great as to be expected, Mila Kunis' part was better than expected, because all the critics said she could not hold her own with Washington and Oldman, but I saw her character grow from an exploited innocent to an eyes wide open adult.

If you haven't seen this film, hurry up and buy your ticket and go see it TODAY! I was captivated from the moment I sat down until the credits came on. Very few movies have received a round of applause from me, but this one did. The folks that give this movie a high rating, are folks that were truly absorbed in the deep message of the film. It's so much more than an action flick. As always Denzel is Denzel. When's the Blue-Ray release date? :)
