I thought it started out a little slow, but I was in suspense wondering why all the killing was going on. Nothing too gorey though.
The last half hour to forty five minutes of it really got interesting. I loved the movie, especially if the Bible is important to you.

First of all, I'm not a Denzel Washington fan but went anyway because it was my husband's birthday pick. I hadn't seen a trailer, so I had no expectations and not much of an idea of what the movie was about. At the theater, I was just ready for the movie to be over and leave. Walk the scorched Earth, kill filthy people in the name of God, walk some more, kill some more, repeat. Acting was good, but the movie was a waste of time.

Very little plot until last few minutes. Gratuitous violence and abuse of women. I was bored less than 30 minutes into the flick. Just an apocalytic excuse for blowing people away.

It certainly was not a run-of-the-mill predictable movie. It was only near the end is the Eli's real purpose is unfolded. Denzel did a very good job as did other actors.

There are only about 5-6 fighting action scenes in all the whole movie, far from enough.
And the ads in the movies seem to some degree ridiculous.
I will not recommend others to watch it,esp ladies.

Thanks Hollywood, for clearing that up for me. Oh, and the M. Knight Shylaman twist, I saw it coming. I love Densil, but I think he missed the jist of this one when he signed on.

What a rip off! I went to see this movie without reading the reviews first because I've liked his movies in the past. I'll never go to see another Denzel movie again without researching it!
The plot was just silly. The violence was gratuitous. It seemed to me this movie was geared toward people of simple intellect; Perhaps high school drop-outs?
If you like this movie I can only say...LOSER!!!

It's mind-boggling, reading some of the reviews..."leave the religion part out"??!! It's about FAITH! Anyone's faith, not just one in particular...did anyone notice all the books lined together at the end? This movie was made for EVERYONE, this is the point of the entire story....respect. We all have DIFFERENT needs and understandings....it was an excellent film! Denzel was perfect for the role! The characters portrayed our sad, selfish...ever faithful world. It was perfect...listen to the message.

Love Denzel, yes there was violence.. but yes there will be at the end of time. I enjoyed the fact that it was apparent that without hope in God this earth cannot be re-built... A deep message within action.

I enjoyed the movie. Anything with Denzel and Gary Oldman is going to be at a minimum decent. The story was good and there was enough action to keep me interested. I was especially impressed by Mila Kunis. I never really thought that she could act but in this movie she impressed me.

Denzel's acting was the only reason I paid to see this movie. I like his humble, hind part-kicking character and was only disappointed when he stood there letting himself get shot.They could have left the religion part out. All it does is cause countries to fight,bec someone is going to feel that the movie chose one religion over all the others.

OK. This movie should get a lesser rating as it is a sort of The Day After/The Bourne Identity mix meets Mad Max. The underlying messages and provocative thought and of course the mesmerizing acting of Denzel Washington save it. Movie critics go too far and give away important themes in movies so I will stop there. Go see it yourself. Many young and middle age soccer moms will be a bit , non-plussed with you for taking them to this movie on date night. This is a serious movie and no lack of action, thrill and drama. It has a couple of odd plot holes. I had no clue Jennifer Beals was in this. When I looked, I was amazed how much she had done since Flashdance in 1983. This movie is a good ride.

This was a very very slow movies that did not have the interest of the audience. I lkept saying to myself I seen this movie before (MAD MAX). I like the HUGHES brothers production and DENZEL the best actor of all times. SAD TO SAY THE MOVIE WAS SO INCOMPLETE THEY SHOULD HAVE USED MORE SCENES AND TOLD THE TRUE STORY HOW ELI CAME TO BE AND HIS LIFE TRAVELS, BESIDE WALKING IN THE DESSERT FOR 1 HOUR DOING THE OBVIOUS, HUGHES BROTHER YOU ARE THE BAMMAS OF THE YEAR 2010.

I think Denzel is always great I loved this movie despite the few "just ok" reviews it got. It had my interest from the beginning and kept it till the end. The religious underlying theme made me think well after the movie was done. I loved the action, the bad guys getting their a**es kicked and the ending was awesome.

It was ok ....a little too slow for my taste I found myself falling asleep. The end was good with the twist. Overall I could have waited on cable. If anyone asks me it they should see it I would never say no but I would set there expectation for a slow movie.

This was a pretty good post-apocolypse story, with Denzel Washington fighting his way through the evil remnants of civilization. The religion came across as a little heavy to me, with the general idea that with out a bible people are doomed. But good and bad are still generally good and bad.

My wife and I both enjoyed this movie. It does have some slow periods but the storyline and action scenes make the slow periods worth sitting through. Well directed and written The Book of Eli makes you think about what you may take for granted every day....from our senses to shampoo.
