Although the entire movie was centered around the most powerful book ever written, it was not overly religious. The story drew you in as it played out, so you had to pay attention in order to understand the plot of the movie. In the end I was completely amazed at the conclusion as Eli finished his mission! Great Movie!

Very unique. very lyrical story-telling pace. I generally dislike post-apocalypse/disaster tales, but this one is engrossing and intelligent. I consider myself a savvy movie fanatic, and still I was taken totally by surprise at the climax of the movie. Denzel Washington, outstanding performance - subtle, moving. Beautifully delivered tale of hope and faith.

It's a lovely movie and original in the way it is filmed. Color and pictures are really great, in particular when you see it in closed caption.
It's like a Jim Jarmusch's movie but with more actions and just a bit more conversations/dialogs.
It's not so much about religion than a fabulous tale on purpose and mission. And it's so interesting to see how Denzel was a kind of a Clint Eastwood character. I can't wait to see The book of Eli 2...

I have to say the first hour of the movie was fantastic. however, the last hour of the movie was extremely dissapointing. it got slow, and just dragged on. It became somewhat predictable at times and left a lot of questions still to be answered. overall, i would say it's worth a rental but that's about it.

Denzel is fascinating in everything he does. This movie was no exception. This was a movie with a strong religious message. It showed how religion can be used for good and bad. It also showed the power of faith. Yet, at the same time, it was packed with action. I really enjoyed it. I'd definitely see it again.

From the script to the screen it was spot on for entertainment and delivering an underlying message. The cast was superb, the violence sometimes hard to take, but beginning to end it was a stellar film. The ending was quite a surprise, yet completely true to the story. I recommend this to everyone, but know the violence can be heavy at times.

I didn't know what this movie was going to be about but since Denzel's in it you can't go wrong. Starts out great, but then about 30 min in it slows down. The shootout scene near the end is unforgettable and worth the price of admission. Excellent cinematography makes up for alot of the script issues. And of course, Denzel's the man. I'd say if you've seen Avatar and Up In The Air, then this should be your next show.

The movie was not quite what I expected. I am a true action/adventure and thrill ride person. After watching the trailer I thought I was in for some real action - not that I dismiss the plot, because if there is not a decent plot the action becomes a moot point. But not what I expected, for example, in the trailer, they show Denzel in a fight scene, the a quick camera shot to Mila Kunis who says "Teach Me" - then a brief shot of someone loading pistol mafazines. Well, if you saw the movie, you would have seen tha "Teach Me" was Teach Me how to read. So, I must say, the folks in charge of slicing up the movie into trailers do a good job of misleading the public. However, I did enjoy the movie.

I wanted this movie to be good, I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I found it predictable and poorly written. The plot is full of holes and badly thought out which is too bad because it had potential to be a really good movie. Skip it, Denzel has a lot more to offer on netflix right now.

Whatever your own religious beliefs, if you want to see this movie, you should get on your knees and thank God for Denzel, who almost singlehandedly makes this movie's hyper-stylized, incongruous mixture of low level story line and high-minded spiritual garbage palpable. Together with Oldman, the film's other fine lead, he imbues the often preposterous plot with just enough credibility to keep it afloat. If you do not know the Bible, the action in this movie is insufficient to permit it to be enjoyed even by lovers of violence for violence sake.

My wife and I enjoyed the movie. I must say Denzel performed well and so did his supporting actress Mila Kunes. It is definitely worth seeing.

I really enjoyed this movie especially since it was better than I expected it to be. The critics don't know what they are talking about. I have always liked Denzel's movies; this was the first that I paid to see in the movies and I was not dissappointed. Can't understand all the raves for this movie. The premise is ridiculous - 30 years after a nuclear cataclysm people are still driving cars and eating canned food from before the bomb? Blaming the bible so all were burned and none saved - and the one that was saved was a Braille version that does not have Braille on the cover?? What happened when he got shot the first time? Better than Sherlock Holmes but not a great (or even very good) movie.
