This movie really caught me off guard. I went into this movie not really expecting to get into it. And after watching the first few minutes I thought it would be slow. I was so wrong! The movie was riveting and lively, lots of action, with some much needed comic relief thrown in!
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone wanting to see something new--it looked different, it felt different, and the reveal had me shocked!
Go see it!

I enjoyed the movie. But it seemed like every five minutes I was reminded of a scene in another movie...
I did like that it was a slam on the fake righteous right wing nuts, and extremists of all religions, that use their religions to convince people to do things that the religion itself (if only those who were deluded by their false prophets could see) speaks against.
The only question the movie left me with was - is Eli completely blind, or only "legally" blind. And, I can't really ask a blind person, now can I? "Excuse me, could you watch this movie and tell me if it is actually possible for him to interact with other people like that?" Most of it I can believe though, especially the close quarter fighting.

Often times and action/adventure movie will just have that and nothing else. Joel Silver produced a surprisingly thought provoking film with "The Book of Eli." It raises questions of world view, goals, responsibility, and power. Does this book contain the power, or the Voice that has guided Eli? It makes the viewers raise questions about their beliefs and what they do with them.

I am not one to see futuristic movies but this one was a must see... I was leary at first but soon was hooked. I liked the message behind the plot... FINALLY, THANK YOU HOLLYWOOD!!! ad stated "Ground Breaking". BS. nothing ground breaking here. Denzel and cinematography is great but the movie is terrible. slow and plodding with a couple of quick action scenes thrown in.
the bible the victim of post-apocalypse prejudice. really? the few surviving people with no water and food are making it a priority to destroy all copies of the bible? give me a break!
and how is it that everyone is understandably dirty in a desert world with scare water yet the main female character looks like she just came from a photo shoot?
just plain dumb! I regret having fallen for the hype. I definitely would not see it again and I cannot even recommend it as a "don't have anything else to watch" dvd.

I think the Hughes Brothers post apocalyptic view of America was both disturbing and thought provoking. The cinematography was fantastic. No matter where you stand on the religious side of the aisle, you will leave the theater with questions. I think it was one of Denzel's best and a great movie for our time. As usual Gary Oldman out does himself. I give the movie a B+

Denzel never fails to "give the people what they paid for" and much more. The religious storyline is very thought provoking and engaged me to the point where I was reciting the bible right along with Denzel and thinking about what the author meant. The powerful peformances and storyline is a testament that Hollywood can make a "religious" movie that appeals to the masses no matter what race, creed, color or religion you are--you will question yourself about your own purpose for being here on earth and the movie will stay in your thoughts long after viewing it.

I was impressed that Book of Eli had a constant stream of action and still contained a well laid-out and delivered plot. This is not just a shoot-'em-up and you do have to pay attention all the way through if you want to understand what is happening with all of the elements. Though set in the standard gloom-and-doom aftermath, there is a lot of hope to be seen in the survivors and their restructuring. Even though the movie is complete in itself, do not be surprised to see a sequel announced soon as the writers left the ending begging viewers to know what happens next!

Did not give me what i wanted inside of the script of the movie. Very disappointed, used religious bible as theme of movie, while killing everything insite. One part of the movie was great hearing my favorite song being played you can ring my bell.

Denzel Washington is an amazing actor, this movie seems to have been written for him, no one else can bring this character into life. The cinematography in the movie and the absence of "color" is very well played and makes this Apocalyptic movie a must see. Mila Kunis is a beautiful young actress and I look forward to seeing her in more movies. I wholeheartedly recommend this movie.

Denzel does a wonderful job, I hope he gets an academy nod for his performance. The storyline should provoke thought about religion and spirituality for believers and non believers alike. I was surprised at the end, the action throughout the movies was enough to keep me well interested, the drama was well played. I would recommend this movie to any that enjoy drama.

This is one of Denzel's best performances and took me to places (spiritually) that were surprising. I will probably go again, because there were scenes that "speak" on more than one level. Pay attention or you might miss the "hook"!
