An ascetically well envisioned post apocalyptic genre film. It reminds me of most japanese anime--good story concept & plot twists, outstanding action scenes, brilliant artwork, and things to appreciate & disdain in the protagonist and the antagonist. But like with anime, at times I was really bored; the dialogue at times was unoriginal or uninspired; there were lots of gratuitous product placement; & the beautiful, strong, and street smart woman will often (and in weird ways) be just the opposite.

This movie was unlike any other I've ever seen. The realism and the depth of the characters. I could imagine this world coming to past. If you are a Denzel fan or not, go watch this movie. If you are atheist or spiritual person, go watch this movie. Especially at a time like this in history, it lets you see how and what truly influences the world. I was moved!

I went to see this with my husband but didn't expect to like it. LOVED IT. I am not a fan of post-apocalyptic or religious message movies but this one was done so beautifully that it didn't feel like it was preaching to you. If you have any kind of spirituality in you, you will love this movie. Run, don't walk to the nearest theatre.

My boyfriend and I went to see this movie. It was truly one of the best movies I have ever seen!! Denzel Washington is my favorite actor and I think this performance is worthy of another Oscar nomination.

When I entered the building I heard real gunshots as there was a robbery in progress and I had to call 911. My daughters and I were almost killed for real. Please get police to be stationed permanently in this theatre in the future. To verify my story call KYW news or Fox 29 News in Phuiladelphia.

This movie was great! I'm the type of person that can fall asleep if a movie isn't good but I stayed awake and alert from beginning to end. The only reason I gave this movie 4 stars is because I will admit it took a little while for the plot to get started but once it got going it was REALLY good. Denzel was awesome as usual.
I will say there will be a LOT of people that don't get the message behind the movie but I'm glad I did because that made it all more enjoyable. I have already advised my friends and family that they must see this movie.

Interesting enough to watch but the fight scenes are over too quickly. Maybe the director's cut will add some additional scenes to show Eli's life before he became "The Walker". He should have had a pet wolf.

Not worth seeing in the Theater, should have waited for the DVD. I don't see to many movies in the theater and was looking forward to this one but was very dissapointed. Lot's of action but the story was just ridiculous... only for the simple minded.

Lot's of action but overall the plot is silly and the ending is so silly that it's almost ridiculous.

This was an excellent post apocalyptic film that had mild biblical undertones. Although the film was not black and white, you could see the directors took care to make the film feel like it was in a future where the world had been though a cataclysmic event: cities were gray, there was no grass, the sun was bright and colors were faded and monochromatic. The set designers did a great job. The Book of Eli touched lightly on what would happen to society if the rules of civilization were forgotten, or remembered but corrupted by a power hungry dictator; it was fairly subtle but made the film more interesting if you noticed the sub plots. The sound track was excellent, and Denzel and Gary were very strong in the film. It was good flick!

The world has fallen in war and the atomic bomb has riped the world appart. One man steps into the light to guide the remaining groups to salvation. Using quotes from the bible that where used to slaughter people in pulp fiction. In the end we see that Eli was walking on water for the whole picture, however the book ends up on the shelf and we are left with the same image of the Bible that we have had for centuries. I felt the dept of the story was lacking and it didnt really challenge the veiwer to question faith one way or the other. Maybe a present day savior would be better than waitting til the world is blown up to have or faith reborn. Or better yet how about a film where we begin to have faith in each other.

I did not think I would like this movie but I thought it was pretty good. This movie shows what people will do or try just about anything possible to survive. Good story line with a nice twist at the end. The movie reminded me a lot of the video game series Fallout.

I am one who thinks he sees the plot direction in a movie and then gets a tad complacent with the plot line, but this one kept changing directions. Kudos!!!
...If you like a movie that has the unexpected and misdirections, then this is one you'll enjoy. Denzel does a great job and Oldman is as good as ever.

Definitely an "action flic" and on several levels. Not overtly religious, somewhat spiritual, samurai style. Washington is very good. Gary Oldman gets a star. Wry humor, well done.

Book of Eli was not what I expected. Considering Washington's movies are usually good, I was disappointed that this one did not live up to the its name. I could have waited until it came out to rent. Overall, however, the movie is fairly decent.

I expected more than trite characters and slow action from a Denzel Washington film. One significant plot twist, that's about it. Probably worth seeing when it's on DVD but I wouldn't recommend seeing it in theaters.

I went into the theater expecting a Terminator-2012 hybrid of a movie. I was happily surprised to find that the movie had a unique plot, good acting and intense scenery. I also enjoyed the underlying plot and the twist at the end, I actually didn't expect it.
...and if all that is not good enough reason to see it, Mila Kunis is in it!

This is a very good movie. It was refreshing to go to a movie that didn't have an overload of computer generated graphics. Also, the people in front of me actually clapped at the end of the movie. In the genre of end of the world movies, I'd say this one is way, way better than 2012 by far.

Seems like there is no end to the "end of the world" movies these days.However, ELI manages to take a worn out theme and make a good movie that keeps you guessing. It was great to see Denzel blend his bad boy with his hero character, Just a good movie.

This movie starts out in a spot where most futuristic movies do, death, destruction and mayhem but definitely takes you to a place where you are looking inward at yourself and examining your beliefs. Its a must see movie that I would highly recommend.
