This movie was entertaining and had a very interesting twist at the end. It was a lot more violent than I expected. Interesting storyline, and Denzel Washington did a great job in this movie.

Huge amount of gratuitous violence that seemed to have no real reason except to show how dangerous the world had become. Very interesting twist at the end but not enough to make it a great film to me. Also, it lost all reality with non fatal wounding at the end and Oldman character not delivering a "finishing" wound. I loved the message and the twist, I just think various plot issues could have been delivered in a more engaging way to make the message and twist even more impactful.

This is an entertaining movie, the story is an interesting idea, but I think it could be looked at two ways. Some will see it as an affirmation of religion, others as the inevitable end of religious fervor. I also thought it was more violent than necessary given its basic theme.

Danzel is a great actor and it shows. Actually the actors are what made the movie. The story lacked something. It appeared to want to convey a message but could not focus.
Was the message that the bible will bring back civility and kindness towards man kind?
not sure, but as I said the acting was great.
I think this is a good start for a sequel that Mila can continue.

This is an amazing movie. As I watched the film, I was blown away by the character of Eli, a godly, and very faithful man, an unwavering servant of God, who wielded his sword like Archangel Michael. The other characters in the movie were the typical bad guys found in other post apocalyptic movies like "Mad Max". There is a bit of violence, to be expected in this kind of movie. The characters were well written and the pacing of the movie was just right, allowing the premise of the movie to unfold naturally. Definitely a movie that will challenge people's knowledge about Christianity and perhaps lead them to seek answers.

I knew nothing about this movie prior to seeing it, and I'm glad. Denzel was pretty amazing in his role, and I wonder how many people picked up on the fact that he completed his amazing journey even facing a HUGE obstacle. I've never actually seen a movie more than once in a theater, but for this one I might make an exception!

Most of the movies I've seen with Denzel are pretty good but this one was a huge disappointment. Ignoring the lack of story line...we are expected to believe some type of nuclear war from 30 years ago wiped out everything, but there's these 4 vehicles that still have gas. From where? And where does the electricity come from for the trickle charge? And why don't they just go back and get that book - I mean it is only a single tank of gas from Alcatraz back to where they left it. Wouldn't that be better than spending the next few months or years trying to recall every word? Just awefull on every level. Do NOT go see it.

It was so nice to take my family to a movie that was actually about someone who believed God personally spoke to him. It seems as though God is not important in Hollywood, but Denzel Washington did a great thing by producing this movie and getting out the message of what's really important in this world and that you can do anything He calls you to do.

From start to finish, The Book of Eli takes hold of you and does not let go. The theatre (audience) was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. They don't make many movies like this one, you won't be disappointed if you are ready to watch an awesome actor (Denzel Washington) work his magic on the silver screen and tell a story like never before. This movie has a little of everything from past movies.A little like a western in the Clint eastwood style,like "High Plains Drifter",a guy coming into a lawless town and meeting the bad guys.It also reminded me of Mel Gibson's first movie"Road Warriors",same sort of plot and background -a post earth after a flash! Finally it had a action plot and and violence for the teenage crowd,but in the end its a movie about faith and the power of religion.I would recommend it but I would have done this in much different way.

Book of Eli has great action, acting by Denzal, but didnt like the girl from the 70s show, she was very disappointed. I agree w/ the last reviewer that the director lost the script. Its has a surprising ending. Didnt like the plot, thou, and Im not very religious, had too many wholes, but like to see movies that makes me say "Hey wait if this so, then why"
Overall a great movie to go see AND ENJOY. Forget about the message, just see it, its a movie.

In addition to being action packed and suspensful, the movie was very thought provoking especially in light of the current day threat of nuclear proliferation. Denzel Washington does a fantastic acting job as a man dedicated to a life long calling to safely deliver the last remaining Bible on earth. Many of the lines from this movie ring true given the excesses in today's society and how people take for granted their current blessings of food, water, shelter, and many "extras". While I personally could have done without the cursing in the movie, I consider the movie well worth the price of the ticket.
