Since there are not a lot of recent movies that have been original, it was good seeing one that is not a remake. Denzel Washington did an excellent job in his role, and it made me think a lot about the spiritual aspects of the movie.

I doubt anyone else could have done the role quite so eloquently as Denzel, but that is what he has always delivered (gets the role perfect). Gary Oldman was also excellent. The plot was great the script was no more than needed, no ruffles or frills thrown in. Talk about a surprise ending plus it was amazing. I would recommend this movie to anyone. Thank you Mr. Washington for once again proving that if your name is on the movie we are guaranteed a great couple hours of good entertainment.

This movie has some riveting action scenes, an engaging story, and introduces some powerful spiritual concepts.
Is this an action movie? A Christian movie? It's a little bit of both. It's definitely not a movie for children. While certain scenes are violent and graphic, it depicts a future post-apocalpytic world which has turned into a lawless Wild West of sorts.
What I enjoyed about this movie is that it has pro-Christian themes that are depicted in ways that are reminiscent of the Old Testament. This a rarity in Holywood.

Denzel, Denzel, Denzel...what a movie!!! Aside from the overuse of F-bombs in this movie...I can't wait to see it again!! Great start, middle and ending...WOW what an ending!! Powerful, original and thought provoking...GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!
Please remember that it is an R movie...there were 5 very small little girls in the movie theatre and that was making my stomach turn that those parents made those girls watch this movie!! The girl closest to me was begging her parents to get her out of there!! Not for kids at all!!! Great movie...GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!

I really enjoyed this movie. It makes you think about what you would do if the world as you knew it suddenly came to an end. It's pretty powerful that spiritual belief can be used for good as well as evil.

I was probably one of very few who had no clue of what the movie was about before seeing it. I could have guessed quite a bit of it but chose to sit back and just watch. I'm the type that doesn't not watch a lot of trailers prior to seeing the movie. Glad I didn't.
Faith based movies don't move a very large audience. People get wrapped up in their own personal belief systems and spend more time judging a movie than watching for the merit of the fictional theme. This is no documentary. Much of this is reasonable to believe while other parts certainly stretch into Sci-Fi.
All and all, entertaining. I like seeing Denzel kick tail. Would have been more enjoyable if parents would leave their young teen and pre-teenagers out of R-rated movies.

I was not really sure what this movie was about when I first heard of it. All I knew is that I wanted to see it! There was brutal violence and crazy action. The story was put together very well. It is a movie to watch in the theater and to buy on DVD!

First of all, his blade is awesome and the fight scenes well thought out. It has in-depth character development, and a block-buster worthy dialogue. The lighting sets the mood and the set design makes you really feel as if a war really happened. Complete with a an A-list cast and you have a hit. 5 stars from me.

I was expecting to be disappointed with the Book of Eli. Boy was I Wrong....I Loved it.
What was best about the movie,was it wasn't until the end some events & tag lines came together and made sense. I thought all characters were Very Good,
Denzel was Awesome.

A man who engages in extreme, gory violence to save a book whose message will save humanity? Wait a minute. The book is the cause of the near-destruction of humanity. Contradictory? For sure. The plot makes no sense. So don't watch the movie for spiritual inspiration. Watch it for Denzel Washington's great performance. Gary Oldman is also good, but a bit over the top in places. Outstanding cinematography.

This movie was bad on many levels, but let's start with the one they got right: The bible (religion in general) is a very dangerous tool when used as a weapon. I think that's a great message, but in a movie that doesn't care, it is lost. The "fresh from the mall" version of Mila Kunis didn't work at all and Denzel's recycled John Q (or Training Day...) only worked because, hey, it's Denzel. I usually love these actors. Also, why were all the post-apocalyptic cars from the 90's? Bad acting, bad tech, bad continuity and a botched, preachy message killed this movie for me. On a side note, I was appalled that people brought their children (all ages) to an R rated movie with profanity and serious violence against women. What is THAT about?

This was a boring, painfully slow movie with characters that were either too cartoonishly evil or too opaque to care about in the slightest. Avoid this like the plague. . .

"The Book of Eli" was a great return for the Hughes Brothers, but even more than that, a riveting film. The film's commentary on the effect of Judeo-Christianity on the masses is both spot-on and laughable. The delivery of the storyline and plot is masterful all the way until the unexpected, but epiphanic final plot twist. Truly a must see!

Over all it was a very good movie. Don't believe the hipe about how Denzel should win an Oscar. it was a movie that made you think about the "What If" factor. i couple of really good suprises like at the end when you realize where he REALLY is. that was pretty cool and the semi-suprise ending. The movie is kind of slow with no real high's or low's. it seems to just move along at steady pace. I think ir was worth the Director's Hall fee.

I thought Denzel Washington did a phenomenal job acting in this movie, but everyone else left something to be desired. Over all I liked the story, but the pace of the movie was off "(VERY sluggish at times). I don't regret seeing this movie, but I wouldn't run back to the theatre.

Look, I love Denzel, but this was not his best movie, I was very disappointed when Ieft. Lots of blood but totally unbelievable. Won't say why for those who may see it but really now!!! Just didn't think it was alll that, I would prefer seeing Blind Side again

Great pace. Great action. Interesting characters along the way. More than decent storyline. Milna looking better than in the "70"s" and can act. Denzel is intense but not overboard. Gary Oldman is classic sinister. I happen to like gratuitous violence and this has it with a purpose.

You have to really watch in order to totally understand.....a lot of parallels and hidden meanings. I'm sure I still missed a great deal. I will see it again when it comes out on video, so I can catch more. Denzel Washington was awesome!!

The movie was excellent - I would see it again and I plan to read the book version. In the movie I think they could have conveyed a little more about the importance of "the book". But anyone that understands the power of the bible could conclude why it would be instrumental to a re-newed or revived nation. Denzel did an excellent job and looked great. The twists were amazing and I enjoyed putting all the pieces together. Very interesting perspective on what would happen if the world came to such a state of ruin.
