From the word "go" this movie became on of my favorites! As an avid Potter Fanatic (books), I always sit in the theater and compare the movies to the books.
I go in knowing it's not the books put on celluloid, but adaptations of them. This movie however was very true to the last of J.K. Rowling's stories about the boy wizard who is now (in the eyes of the wizarding world) a man.
I laughed at the 7 Potters, and cried over the 2 losses, just like I did when I first read the book.
Bravo to David Yates, David Heyman, Steve Kloves, and all the cast and crew for making this first part of the last of Harry's adventures worth every penny spent to see it!

I read all the books and found this movie missing a lot of important details however I loved the Hollywood spin on the book. I wish they paid more attention to the actual emotional ties of Harry Potter, ie Sirius-The Godfather, and I felt lukewarm when they used only Dobbie to render the audience to tears. There is so much more to Harry Potter. I can't wait to see the final HP-Deathly Hollow II. Please don't let me down.

I enjoyed the first part of the seventh installment in the Harry Potter series, however it left me with mixed feelings. Not having read the book before seeing the film I believe it truly benefitted me when analyzing it from a non biased standpoint. Overall I thought the movie looked phenomenal. The character models were very impressive, effects were well done, and they did a great job of making the world feel lived in. I had a few issue with some of the cuts between scenes but nothing to major. So the movie was good, but whats next? The film didn't leave me with much anticipation for what comes next. The plot is rather simple and not often exciting. I felt like the characters were run, run, running then there was a slow part for a while then there was more running then the movie ended. At the end I thought to myself ok well that was fun as a filler movie but were do we go now? Hopefully the last installment wont be so similar. I look forward to an even more action packed adventure from Harry Potter and his friends in part 2.

This next to last HP movie continues with the more dark and gritty feel of the recent HP films. I have not read the HP books so I can only judge the film's content. The movie continuity was good with a few lapses-for 2 hs 20 min, I would have like to have learned a bit more about HPs adult allies. Film texture was excellent, once again relying on dark scenes, claustrophobic woods and quaint isolated villages to set the danger moods. Good action scenes and improved character development give this film a solid thumbs-up! Well done ending to set the stage for the final installment-one I have to see! Did anyone else start thinking of the Lord of the Rings?

If you are an avid reader, this may come off as one of the closest to the book (other than the first one). but still missed parts in the book. But again, I think the main parts were expressed through the movie.. but for those who read the books, where was his cape through the whole movie??? that was something that bothered me bc they used it throughout. Anyways, def worth seeing the movie either way ESPECIALLY if you don't read the books!! Enjoy

The movie was outstanding from all viewpoints
except some of the fast talking scenes between characters were hard to follow and hear correctly due to the British accents of the now older actors and actresses.
Seems to be more pronounced as they age.

The movie was quite humorous and had some very suspenseful moments. I often found myself jumping in my seat from the pop ups, and my head was just leaning forward because it was so intense. Not being a Potterite and never having read any of the books, I was lost throughout most of the movie. Compared to the other movies I have seen, it was very dark. That said, it was well done and my wife, who IS a Potterite and HAS read the book, said she really enjoyed it.

Fans of JK Rowling's books have come to expect that the screenplays for HP movies will differ substantially from her books. (Realistically, how much can you cover in 2 to 2.5 hours?) That being said, I was pleased to hear that Book 7 would be divided into 2 films, and hoped that more of Rowling's excellent plot details could be included that way. Oddly enough, the film version of HP7 - Part I extends a good 2/3 to 3/4 of the way into HP book 7, continuing that unfortunate previous pattern of leaving out plotlines and characters, and I'd say not for the better; and making me wonder if an hour of the final film will end up being devoted to endless special effects in the Battle of Hogwarts. I love the HP series enough that I was dying to see this film; I left feeling let down. IMO, the 3rd film, Prisoner of Azkaban, is still the best of the series. If you're a die-hard Potter fan, then go to see this one as part of the series. Otherwise, you may not be able to follow the plot of this as a stand-alone story.

Can't wait til the last one. Although, the only thing I didn't like was that there was a "Lord of the Rings" feel to a scene or two. These movies have been great to follow and I'm glad all the characters are the same throughout all of them.

As noted by more than one previous reviewer, it helps to follow the plot of 'The Deathly Hallows' if you’ve read the book, although the same could be said of many movies – particularly movie series (e.g. Lord of the Rings). That said, this is still an amazing piece of movie making, especially considering that it’s movie #7 of 8, spanning 10 years both in the story and the production … a most daunting and singular accomplishment all by itself.
The three principal actors (Radcliff, Watson & Grint) have grown tremendously in their craft over the years. When Harry and Hermione were dancing in the tent in the midst of their desperate pursuit, I couldn’t help flashing back to those cute kids in their first year at Hogwarts. As actors, they’ve grown to the point that I could feel the shared emotional support of their deep and abiding friendship, as well as an unacknowledged attraction that would never be pursued because they were each in love with another.
The two most touching scenes for me were at the beginning and ending of the movie -- and I have no doubts it was done purposely: Okay, so I’m not a manly-man, but I admit that I ‘teared up’ when Hermione ‘erased’ her past from her parent’s memory (but not her own, and that’s the most poignant part), and when Dobbie died in Harry’s arms. (Speaking of great 'actors', Dobbie stole my heart.)
In short, yes, I would unhesitatingly recommend this movie, but only if you’ve seen the preceding six films -- despite the incredible CGI effects, it would be meaningless to someone who hadn’t.

Excellent just as good as the passed movies. Knowing that their fun in Magic is over because they are now grown and are facing problems of adulthood and having the responsiblilities thrown at them in trying to save their lives and the worlds. The movie is now so serious compared to the past. Meaning games and fun are over now that they are young adults. Escellent,, enjoy every minute and was ready to see more but the movie ended. Can't wait to see the end!!

Let me honest, I am not a die hard Harry Potter fanatic. I have only read the first book, which I found really too cloying to continue with the rest of the series. I am starting to regret that now, however, as both the Deathly Hallows and Half-Blood Prince I have really had trouble following.
Simply put, I think if you haven't read the books, you will be lost trying to follow the plot. I am guessing that the movie is very true to the book, and if you have read the book it will most likely make the movie much more enjoyable. However, the movie itself seems very abrupt as the plot twists and turns throughout the movie, but in the end doesn't really go anywhere.
As at the end of the Half-Blood Prince, Harry has still only located one more of the magical Horcruxes at the end of the movie, leaving him with the seemingly insurmountable task of finding (and destroying) the rest, even though he has no idea where to find any of them. It looks very likely that Part 2 will be an endless series of impossible tasks that make it look as if Harry is going to be doomed, only to have him beat impossible odds at the end and triumph.
Bottom line, I don't think this is a movie you will enjoy if you haven't read the books.

Absolutely brilliant! Saw it twice, once in regular movie version and once in imax. Definitely recommend it! GO SEE IT!!!!!! I laughed, I cried, I jumped a couple of times! Very well done and beautifully acted! A must see in theaters/imax movie! It is amazing in imax.

It's a good movie because you KNOW it's part 1 of 2. We're that not the case, it would not get as good of a review. The movie seemed drag on for extended periods from time to time. Again, it's only part 1 so I kind of expected it. I'm definitely excited for part 2 so we can see how it all goes down at the end.

I really like Harry Potter and the movies but this one was just boring at some times. I hated how it was repetative and there wasn't much exctiment at times. I did like how it ended and it kept you in suspense then but I wish the whole movie was like that. I would reccomend it only because it is a Harry Potter movie. I do hope the second is much better.
