Perhaps they should have produced two part movies for all of the last four books. Because of the additional time available, the DH Part 1 did a much better job of conveying the intent of JKR.
Although it is the darkest of all the movies, it almost had to be -- most of DH is very dark.
The production values were excellent and the use of animation was very effective.
Though the acting (for the most part) was excellent, I thought it suffered some compared to previous movies in the series. Understandable since it must be impossible for the actors to maintain the same drive after this many years.

I purposely did not reread the book before seeing the movie, so it was better than some of the past movies, because I was not constantly comparing. I felt the acting was good and the portrayals were accurate. I went with a group of 6 people and we all enjoyed it very much!

I read book 7 when it came out, and forgot a lot of the details going in, so I enjoyed the film and was surprised at some of the information that was shared. The main opening scene (I won't spoil) was visually great and I thought better than explained in the book. Some of the middle was a slow, but that matches the long span of time from the book, and it's a good time for folks to take a potty break. Overall very good, looking forward to seeing how they wrap everything up in the summer!

Excellent story to merrit a 2 movie adaptation. I found that the story was a little slow after they enter the "camping" phase, but that just leaves more time for character development with these awesome characters.
I feel that the romance between Hermione and Harry when Ron left was wrong and should have been done more like the book which doesn't confuse the reader about the friendship between Hermione and Harry. The book doesn't make it seem like a romance!!
Story spoiler alert!
Overall an incredible start to a truly EPIC conclusion. I cannot wait to see the battle scenes with all of our favorite characters and the Death Eaters. I sure hope they give enough time to Harry's sub-plot in the tunnel and false death...

This was my favorite to date! I've always taken my daughter to the midnight release, and i'm usually wiped by the time they're over because of how long they run. The length was just right, they stopped it in a great spot, and was so pumped from it, I didn't sleep!

for the first half of the last book, a very good beginning of the end. the half blood prince was nowhere as good as it was literally, the beginning of the deathly hallows is, and cinematically a decent pick for the break and lead in to part 2. the books are very descriptive and the cinematographer does well to help one realize the relationships built over the last six films.

The movie might be OK for those who did not read the book, but having read the book (which was not all that great, either) it was rather boring. It just goes from one situation in which the kids stupidly put themselves and from which they barely escape through "disapparation" to another. It all gets rather tedious. The relationship between the three main characters was perhaps brought out with more depth than in earlier movies.

Movie was good. I'd see it again, that being said; I found the middle of this movie to be slow. Parts seemed to lag for the sake of making sure it was long enough for 2 parts. This is one of the darkest HPs which I like about the series. It "grows" with its audience. Would've liked more of a build up & cliff hanger for this part going into part 2. *spoiler alert* basically ending on a sad note with a death left you with a "downer" rather then an intense cliff hanger. 4 out of 5.

I've read all of the books twice and was still shocked by all of the twists and turns that left me on the edge of my seat! It was incredibly intense and had immense action and events that left the audience clapping every half hour, myself included. This has to be, by far, the best Potter movie yet.

Every other HP movie is an excellent stand alone apart from the book. You don't have to read the 900+ page part 6 to enjoy the movie. This one? Terrible. Slow (45 minutes in the woods waiting for something), predictable (Ron being a bonehead and Hermione getting angry with him), nothing about why Snape betrayed them, etc. They didn't develop any characters at all -- all the characters are pretty fully developed. They introduced some new ones -- Ron's brother, for example -- and never did anything with them. One of my children, 11, fell asleep during it. My 13 year old had to consult with friends to find out why what happened, happened. Terrible. Which is too bad, because we have to wait another six months to watch... hopefully a better sequel. This is easily the weakest of all the films.

I enjoyed this movie almost 150% more than the last. Even though there were the expected changes and deletions and additions from/to the book, it followed the story line exceptionally well. I enjoyed it the second time even more in a quieter theater than opening night, I caught quite a few things that I missed. This has become my favorite of the series!

This was one of the best of the series yet. I know some found parts slow, but I believe this was needed for charater development and to set the serious tone that in essence, this is an all out war. I cannot wait to see part II!

EXCELLENT!! They did a great job of sticking to the book in this one, only cutting the minor details and not changing or leaving out anything major. The movie was a little darker but Harry has grown up and has a pretty dark task before him. If you haven't read the book then there are alot of details you are missing out on. Definitely read the book before part two as there will be alot happening. LOVED the movie! Can't wait for part two!!

I was disappointed that there wasn't more action. In additon, it was just too long. I didn't read the last book, but I think the first movie could have been shortened and possibly combined with the last. Maybe it wasn't necessary to split it in 2. My 6 year old daughter wasn't left on the edge of her seat waiting to see the next movie. She was too devastated that Darby was gone. I am still anxiously waiting for the final movie, and continue to be an avid Harry Potter fan! :)

I believe this is the best installment of the Harry Potter series yet. It stuck the best with the book and didn't alter the story line by adding random things or removing vital characters. As a long time HP fan, I was beyond pleased with this movie!
