First off, it was a great idea to bust this movie in 2. For one, it helped to wrap up all the possible plots and stories. Two, it gives us just a few more hours to enjoy the last of Harry Potter. I thought Half Blood Prince, though good, was slow and boring, not really picking up until the end. Deathly Hollows Pt. 1 is strong on action, suspense, drama and characterization. The scenery is dark and the mood is very dim. But the movie does have its moments of humor. All and all though, it sets up what is expected to be the greatest wizard battle we have ever seen. I can't wait!

Watching a movie banking on special effects and a fan base that will overlook worthlessness, Priceless.
Long story short, the funny parts weren't funny, the sad parts were hilarious, Ron looked like a guy that rides around in a windowless van asking kids to ride his broomstick and the best part of all is the way they faded from scene to scene like a poor movie adaptation would. This movie is kind of like shrooms, they seem like a good idea until your start tripping balls and all you want is it to end. If you value the time you have on this earth, I'd suggest giving this movie a pass.

I really enjoyed this movie..and like other reviewers have mentioned...so glad they decided to make Deathly Hallows into 2 movies. I saw it at IMAX with my grandson and it was an awesome experience. We did a Harry Potter marathon with the previous 6 movies before going to see Deathly Hallows so he was completely captivated by this movie. It is a much "darker" Harry Potter but I was happy to see how well the movie followed the book and can't wait to see Part 2 next summer!

I can not believe how intense this movie was. I have read the books and it totally exceeded my expectations. The only bad part about this movie was that it was too long to finish. I hate that I have to wait 8 months to see the end! It's nothing like the first few movies. It's edgy and dark and amazing! I will see it multiple times!! LOVE IT!!

I felt that Harry Potter 7 Part 1 was the best movie out of all the Harry Potter movies out so far. Even though it was a bit long and in the end, only one horcrux was found, it was a great, suspenseful, engaging movie that I even saw twice. One thing I wished for, was that the movie didn't leave out some details they had in the book (plan details, procedures, etc). However, I would greatly recommend this movie to all age groups (mainly 10+).

Not a fan of science fiction at all, could not finish any Harry Potter movies, but took my 10 year old to the Theatre because he is a mega fan of Harry Potter and read all the books in one month!!! so for his upcomming birthday gave him this special secret surprise gift. IMAX experience made me be interested and out of my chair several times, now I will go back and see all the missing ones... He is so happy and I am very excited. Mission accomplished! thanks to Harry Potter we will be visit England again!! for now just Universal Studios...

Deathly Hallows was such an enormous book that I was thrilled when I heard they were going to make it into two separate movies. Now that Part I is on the screens, they should all give themselves a giant pat on the back for doing the impossible. They've made "Harry Potter" fans like me be even more impatient for the release of Part II next Summer.
I will admit that seeing Ron, Hermione and Harry as near-adults is a little sad and disconcerting. The "dad" part of me wants them to remain young kids, but the movie-goer in me loved, loved, loved seeing them in this movie.
It is a VERY dark movie and parents of young children should think twice about bringing them to the theater without a few words of warning first. In the men's restroom immediately after the movie, there were more than a few red eyes and sniffles. And that was from the grown-up guys like me. It was the "Dobby" thing, as if you couldn't guess. Let's just say Dobby's last scene in the movie had the same effect on men as the "Hey Dad ... you wanna have a catch?" line from Kevin Costner in "Field of Dreams".
The only other warning that I would give is that you NOT bring a friend who isn't completely familiar with the Harry Potter Universe. I don't see any way a "newbie" could walk into this movie and have any idea what was going on whatsoever. There are no kindly professors gently explaining things in this movie.
I've seen it twice already (once with a friend and once by myself) and might see it two or three more times at this point. Brilliant movie!!!!

Always love the Harry Potter movies...I know a lot of Reviewers didn't care for this movie...something about the characters dragging around from campsite to campsite....Well?!........Yeah- thats the story. I didn't need action scenes from beginning to end- just the books story line followed as closely as possible- and this movie did that. Part 2 is when all the Reviewers will get their fix......Till then I'm rereading the whole series :)

Undoubtedly the best Harry Potter movie yet, the decision to split the movie in two was necessary. I was really impressed with how well this movie stuck with the book. I've been disappointed by the previous movies cutting important parts out of the movie due to time constraints and by dividing the movie they can devote the proper screen time to each part of the book in this sequel. Very well done, I want to see this a hundred more time before the next part comes out.

I was nervous going into this movie. So much happens in the book that, even with the final installment coming in two parts, I wasn't sure how well it would be transferred to the big screen. My fears were laid to rest. This first part was perhaps the best at keeping the integrity of the book intact that I've seen since movies #1 & #2. Fans of the book series will be very pleased. Those who've only enjoyed Harry on screen may be a bit lost but I believe all will become clear in the final installment.

This is a harder movie for the non Harry Potter fan to follow as it expects you to know the back story. I liked the way they pretty closely followed the book, and enjoyed the performances.
Since this contains a lot of exposition, it's not as exciting as some of the other movies, but that's what this movie is about.
The biggest negative for me was the use of a jiggly hand held camera. I imagine that it was inteded to add tension or something, but I found it irritating.

My biggest fear going into the theater was that, somehow, the genius of the book would be taken away be hollywood but I had nothing to fear!
Spliting the movie into two parts was actually a good call, since now the seventh book can be given all the screen time it deserves!
I laughed many times, I cried many times. It was well worth my months of waiting.

The movie followed the book really well. It as kind of slow, but pretty accurate. You know who's going to die and what's going to happen and it's just really great to see on film. I can't wait for part 2. I think amc theatres should have an adventure for the 2nd part.

I'm so glad that they split the last book into two because this first part followed the book almost perfectly!!!! I was very pleased with this movie!! And I agree with another reviewer that said this movie should be played right before the midnight release of part 2! I've read all the books and have seen all the movies so far. I really liked this one. There are slow parts, but I felt they were necessary to portray the drama and feel of the scene. It was very accurate to the book. These days, movies are so fast paced that you end up caring less about the characters. This movie draws you in and you can feel the tension. I can't wait for part 2! I think the movies have done well in creating a distinctive mood just like the books as things got darker in the story.
