From start to finish, I was speechless. For anyone who has been a big fan of the books and watched the movies, this is the one to watch. In my opinion, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 is the truest to the books thus far. Maybe its because they split the book in 2 parts and its two and a half hours long...at this point, I DON'T CARE!!!!!
I was hooked as soon as the movie started. It had parts from the book I didn't think would make it to the movie. At the end, I was just in awe. It was AMAZING!!! I loved this movie! I don't know how to emphasize how INCREDIBLE this movie was!!! My brother and I loved it sooooo much. We are definently planning on seeing again very soon.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent start for the final two movies. The movie was much darker than the rest of the Harry Potter movies which was pretty surprising. It definitely is meant for an older audience. It sets up nicely for the finale next year.

This kept to the book pretty well and I was so glad they split it into two parts as there is so much going on. Of course, like all the HP series, there's a lot left out but all in all I enjoyed it The actors chemistry was still there, there was enough action to keep it interesting, and we were left with a cliffhanger. I almost missed Greyback with the Snatchers though, they didn't mention him.

I definitely enjoyed this movie, it was good. However, a friend who had read the book warned me it might seem very slow moving if you hadn't read the book. After seeing it, that is exactly how I felt. Still as I said it is good, I'm just hoping the final installment is more action packed.

This moving was most disappointing. There were many funny moments and less serious moments. There were several instances of information given out of the blue - is it relevent or not? I guess we will find out next year. For a while, the movie even dragged a bit. This could have definitely waited for the $1 rental. Yes, I do like Harry Potter but I also want to be entertained.

Since about 2-years has transpired since I read the book, I was a bit rusty on the plot. But I was pretty sure from what I remembered that the front end of this final saga was not going to be all high end special effects. And I was right. Although the plot languished in places (as did the book), it was well worth the watch. I suspect that many theaters will be offering a dual screening of both parts back-to-back next summer when part 2 is released. (Hopefuly I'll have time to reread the book between now and then.)

HP fans were disappointed the date for this movie was pushed back, but it was totally worth the wait. Unlike some of the other movies (which I love) this one gives you the feeling of the book and more. Yes, they had to skip a few things, but they also added scenes that were implied or just talked about and brought you closer to the characters emotionally. I suppose I can't say I wasn't disappointed at the end; I was disappointed I couldn't watch the second part immediately following this one!

The seventh book was entirely different from the first six, and the movie necessarily followed suit. With the protagonists on the run from the law, the familiar setting of Hogwarts School is gone and instead the viewer must journey alongside the characters through desolate forests and the back alleys of both muggle and wizard society. Unfortunately this also means that the star-studded adult cast, normally a saving grace in this franchise, is given only token screen time. The overwhelming majority of the movie is in the hands of Daniel Radcliffe and company. Given their questionable acting talent, (and in their defense the much more questionable writing), the viewer is in for some truly awkward interactions and some long stretches with nothing to carry one through but clumsy stabs at emoting. You should also prepare yourself for some of the old Hollywood standbys, such as a lovable character wheezing out his last heroic words while dying in the arms of the protagonist, several easily foreseeable attempts to simply startle the viewer, and a slew of embarrassing one-liners.
You may ask, "Well what did you expect from the latest installment in this cash-cow franchise?" I answer, "WIZARD FIGHTS." Why no love for tons of wizard battles? The film makers have all the funding in the world for special effects, and the ending of the fifth movie demonstrated how pretty and creative they could get with the battle scenes. What little fighting occurred in this film was reduced to ambiguous zap fights or the tired old 'twin beams of energy canceling each other out' standoff. Let's face it, this franchise doesn't rely on the academic aspects of film-making to wow audiences. It relies on good old special effects movie magic, and this film strayed from that safe zone to its own detriment, especially considering it attempted to do so without the support of its impressive cast of adult actors.
Having said all that, thumbs up for a cameo from Bill Nighy, (who can do no wrong), and thumbs up for Voldemort killing lots of stuff. Oh, and two thumbs WAY up for scenes of brief sexuality involving Hermione, who now has hott in spades. Incidentally, I'd say Emma Watson is probably the least bad of the three thespians prominent in this film.
See it if you're a HP fan, but I might suggest waiting to rent. Given the lack of wizard fights, the film shouldn't lose much off of the big screen.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I have read/seen all HP Books/Movies. Starting w/ Goblet and Fire and thereafter, the books are better than the movies. That being said, I believe this to be an entertaining movie. The plot was good. At a few points, I was unsure what was going on, but I figured it out quickly. I read the book within days of its release. Final note - My husband (who is NOT a HP fan) went w/ me and he ENJOYED the movie. That speaks volumes!! I am VERY sad I have to wait until next year to see the ending!

I enjoyed this movie a lot but finally had to get up with a half filled spirits as the movie was not complete without the second part! I wish they had made the full movie with a longer run time (like 3.5 hrs or something) to complete the series...
As a non-reader of the harry potter book series, I enjoyed the movie with no expectations. My husband, having read all the HP series books, knew whats gonna happen and was not excited much and also did not like what was picturized on the screen as being same/better as in the book.
I have heard similar reviews of people not liking the movies after reading the book.
Whatever be it, I am eagerly awaiting the deathly hallows part II in 2011...

When I found out the date of the premiere, I knew I had to be there. I ordered my tickets way in advance, and showed up pretty early.
The movie was amazing. I feel that you might enjoy it more if you read the books though. Unlike a few of the previous films, they explained a lot of what was going on. They also cut minimal which was also a plus. They added one scene I particularly remember and I thought it went with the story, and was happy with it.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was a perfect balance of seriousness, fear, adventure, and humor. I am particularly happy that they added humor, because it is something the other movies lacked. You need to relax some of the tension in order to keep a viewer happy in this sort of film.
Also, the lighting was great! In some of the previous films, I couldn't see what was going on, especially on DVD.
Once again, very impressed and happy with this movie, I can't wait for DVD or the premiere of part 2.

Watching the entire series together as a family has been so much fun over the years. We've grown especially fond of the house elf Dobby. My children are 10 and 8, girl and boy, and both have read all of the books up to Deathly Hallows. Two distinct scenes stood out to me as rather disturbing for them. The first was the sexual depiction in Ron's dream translated through the Horcrux. The second was the brave, touching, and perhaps unnecessary brutal death of Dobby by Bellatrix. There were few dry eyes as he uttered his final words...
For lovers of the sci fi fantasy part of the movies, this is right up there with the best of them. For sensitive pre-teens, better off reading the book.

I'm a big Harry Potter fan, so naturally, when I heard it was coming out on the 19th, I decided that I had to go see the midnight premiere. And I did. As I suspected. the movie was great, (the director really knows what he's doing, you know?) and of course, the woman playing Bellatrix was just as brilliant as Daniel Radcliffe and and all the others. Good movie, good balance of funny and seriousness, and the only thing that made me angry with it was the ending, which came much too soon, and the girl sitting in the row before me, who kept checking her Facebook on her HTC.

the book, as always, has many discriptive details. If you read the book you would find many similarities and just as many variations that truly kept the story line going. it moves a bit slower but you feel their fear, their friendship and the dedication to the quest. Their 17, who would want the fate of the world in your hands? this keeps it real, this keeps it at 17. It connects with the heart, has a bit of humor (#6 by far was the funniest) but definetly left you wanting to see more yet pleased its at a good place to rest the story line for the time being.

It is difficult to convert the imagery and details of a Harry Potter book into a two-hour movie. After struggling to scrunch material in Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince, they did a smart thing in splitting Hallows. They did an amazing job turning the developmental half of the book into a great movie. The special effects are so excellent, but because of the standard they have set in previous movies, you take them for granted. That they don't win the Academy Award for special effects every time is an injustice.
This movie was amazing in that they played to all emotions, from sadness (at the opening and the close), to rage, to fear, to hope, to despair, to laughter, to love. If you've read the book, then although you'll know what to expect in most scenes, they'll still catch you off guard from time to time.
The actors who play polyjuiced versions of Ron, Harry, and Hermione as Ministry personnel are superb. With the exception of Daniel Radcliffe's horrendous stumbling under the auspices of dancing, it is great filming. And given that the editors could have removed the "dancing" without impacting the movie whatsoever, I assume it's there for comic relief before the next scary scene.
Bravo to the director, special effects people, actors, and all who clearly put their heart into making the best possible movie they can. Unfortunately for all of them, in an industry that can't hold enough award shows to pat themselves on the back, they will get no love for the amazing work they did. Blockbuster sequels seem to be omitted from the voting by the academy snobs who are probably just jealous that they're not making the same salaries.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie was really good, and excellent if you ahev read the books, but I would never take any children to this movie. It was very dark, alot of death, and a complex plot for little kids. However, I am 20, so it was most excellent. I have recommended it to all my friends. Watching the first six movies would also be recommended, you would not understand the plot if you hadn't.
