I was very impressed. I was concerned that this movie would disappoint me, like HP6 did, by not following the book closely enough. However, this time around they did a much better job of following the plot and the acting was superb. I thought the split was timed just right as well. I'm looking forward to part 2!

I'm a huge HP fan and I found many of the movies a major disappointment. I was excited, yet highly skeptical, about seeing DH, which was my favorite book in the series. I thought, however, they did a great job sticking to the book. I was very happy with it, and they ended Part I exactly where I was hoping they would. There is a much better balance of humor, action, and drama than HBP. The scenes of "implicit eroticism," shall we say, are always rather patheitc--laughable, really. But i feel the depth of the characters and the true heart of HP really shines through in this first part of DH.

This movie was another good one to add to the Harry Potter movies. It was pretty dark and could be scary for kiddos... I was definitely freaked out at some of the intense parts! But it matches the tone of the book well and brings to life what J.K. Rowling wrote for this (dark) end to the HP series. Looking forward to movie #8!

Having read all 7 and loving the last book of the series, the movie stayed more true to the book then the other movies. The graphics were amazing.Absolutely LOVED! it. The suspense was perfect, its just a roller coaster that doesn't stop. TRULY worth watching over and over again.

As a fan of the books, I'm always a little apprehensive about how they will handle the movie adaptation, but I wasn't disappointed with Deathly Hallows. It was a great idea to make it in two parts--i wish they'd done that with the Order of the Phoenix. The cinematography is amazing and the actors all excellent as usual. I can't wait for part two. Skip the D Box.

Awesome !!!! Best of all the Harry Potters so Far. It makes you go home and watch movies 1-6 again with anticipation of the second half. It's a must see this holiday weekend. We saw it on opening day first showing and the theater was packed.

Number 6 in the series was a disappointment to me. It seemed to skip through so many aspects of the story and didn't even follow the story most of the time. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the book was closely followed for part 1 of the Deathly Hallows. Spreading the final book into 2 movies was an excellent idea to really tell the story as it should be told.
That being said, some of the filming was a little weird to me and should have been redone at points.

This is the first Harry Potter movie I've actually seen in the theater and it was a great one to start with. I felt that they did a very good job adapting the book and the split between parts 1 and 2 was also in a good place.

To start, I'm a 52 yr-old father that took his teenage daughter. I thought the movie was okay - she really liked it - but (like many other reviewers) I thought it was unnecessarily long. I mean, they had already decided to split it into two parts, so WHY put everybody through an extra 45 (or so) minutes of watching them sit in a tent, sit in the woods, or sit on rocks? And what about meaningful dialogue? I haven't read the books, but HOPE that they have SOME. And WHY can they 'teleport' out of some situations, but not others (re: snatchers)? My daughter has seen ALL the movies and was asking me. Plus, they need to remember that once they put the audience into a scene, WE, the audience, can't remove ourselves from it. Harry and Ron dive into a frozen pond/lake and 2 minutes later, they're sitting there beside the lake, looking at the sword, barefoot, wearing wet clothes (no coats) and not even shivering, much less worried about hypothermia. Come on!! Either do it, or don't! Unfortunately, you put "Harry Potter" on anything and it will sell out. They no longer have to even consider quality. Just keep cranking them out and watch the money flow in! This reviewer's opinion is just WAIT until the series is OVER, and then buy the boxed DVD set so you can watch it at home an skip through the parts you can't avoid at the theater...

I really enjoyed the movie overall. This is considering the fact that it is only half a movie. It ended in a very interesting place, not one I would think as a good stopping point to then wait 6 months or more to see the rest. However, considering everything that is about to take place it is about the only option. One thing I personally did not care for, was how many times they had Daniel Radcliff strip down. I understand that it is a much more grown up fil than the previous adaptations, but we don't need to put him in his underwear everychance there is.
There is still no way around it, the movie was very well put together and fit the book about as closely as they could with still fitting everything in in 2 and a half hours. It definitely made more sense having read the books. If I had just been a fan of the movies, I am absolutey certain that I would have been lost in several places. As I said, an absolutely wonderful move, I am excited for the next.

I think they did a great job of portraying the book through film. I know a lot of people think that not much happened in the movie but really, it spiced up the first half of the book while being super accurate. The next half is sure to be amazing!

To be fair, I haven't read any of the books and I'm not a huge HP fan, but as far as movies go this movie is just LONG!!! Many people in my theater took restroom breaks throughout the movie. To me that shows the movie is weak. The movie could've been 90 min instead of 150.

Everyone went to see it because it's titled "Harry Potter". This movie, just like most of the previous ones, cannot be compared with the depth and broadness of the books by JK Rowling.
The once young and cute actors grew into ugly and dumb adults. Their acting is bad. You can't feel anything from their faces or languages. And, if you are gonna take a shirt off in a commercial movie, please put on some muscles. If you don't work hard on acting, do some work-out at least.
I recommend everyone see it on a rent DVD, if you have to see it. Sound and visual in the theatre are not impressive at all - pointless to sit in a cinema then.
If you say "well, it is the last two movies of HP anyways", you do realize there is gonna be a TV series sometime down the road, right?

I was so surprised about how interesting and exciting this movie was...I vaguely remember being bored reading the first half of the book because I felt like Harry, Hermoine, and Ron wandered around in the woods FOREVER and just complained all the time and I expected the first movie to be a little boring. But I was riveted the whole time, I felt like I was only there for 10 minutes. If they were able to make this part of the story interesting I truly can't wait for the 2nd part to come out...I know it's going to blow my mind.

This is a great film... very close to the book in content. I would not advise any parent to bring a young child, just as a young child cannot understand, or would find scary. parts of the book, the same is true for the film!

The movie starts out with a very ominous feeling and you can just feel the pain and loneliness that all of the characters are feeling. As things start to build, and the action builds very quickly, you get pulled into the story. I was a bit disappointed with the way Mad-Eye's death was handled, but I liked the improvements on Hedwig's. I'm a sucker for the twins, so I must say the Phelps brothers did a fantastic job and brought a bit of humour into the movie that would have left it otherwise quite depressing (which I could have lived with). The wedding was not a big part of the movie, but I'm glad it was included. They didn't have Harry in disguise, but I don't think it detracted from the scene at all. When the wedding received the notice of the Minister of Magic's death, things went crazy.Just as they should have.
Once the trio is on the run and they begin their search for Horcruxes, the movie starts to get slow. When Ron leaves, that's when things get to be a bit too slow (even for me). I understand that that part of the book is a bit slow, but I feel like there should have been more action. There were several scenes they could have added, but they didn't. And that's okay. It happens. When Harry and Hermione head to Godric's Hollow, things pick up again. The scene with Bathilda Bagshot... Creepy. As the story progresses, from here, its all uphill. Things are action packed. And emotional. And absolutely fantastic. When they're at Malfoy Manor, I got chills. And teared up during the torture scene. And the final scenes of the movie, I cried. Like a little kid.
All in all, I think this was the best movie adaptation so far. And it is just that, an adaptation. Some people complain that the movies don't stick to the movies exactly, but I think that's okay. I think it is fine to change small things, leave certain things out, add something if you think it adds to it (just not to the extent that they did when they butchered Half Blood Prince). I'm now trying to patiently wait for Part II

This is an intense and beautifully made movie that is best enjoyed by teens and adults. The Harry Potter movie adaptations have matured along with their fans. The heroes and villains are both convincingly exhausted by their ongoing challenges. Special effects are awesome! I particularly enjoyed the segment with the story of the 3 brothers.

I thought HP 7.1 was awesome - definitely the darkest in the series so far, and very true to the book. It does drag a bit in the beginning, but it helps the viewer get an idea of the length of time spent "hiding out". There are some scary parts and adult themes though, so I wouldn't recommend it for kids under 10.
I can't wait to see it again, and for HP 7.2 to come out in July!

This was an excellent movie and I would recommend it to anyone. However, I would not allow anyone under the age of 12 to watch it. When they say brief sexuality, they aren't kidding. Furthermore, I understand how they are giving us the finale in two parts and why, but I really would have preferred to see both parts. I would have gladly sat in a movie theatre for five hours if I could have seen everything. Furthermore, I would have paid extra money to see it all at once. Either way, this was a great movie, great acting, great ending, and excellently done to portray the non-hogwarts part of the series. Will probably see it at least three more times in theatres.
