After reading all the books several times, I was super excited about seeing this movie. I have been disappointed in the past HP movies by how they don't always follow the books. Well, this one did a much better job of sticking closer to the actual book. I loved it! I wasn't sure how well the first part of the book would translate on screen, but I wasn't disappointed at all. I really enjoyed it and so did my kids (ages 13 & 10). GREAT movie!!

I've read all the books, seen all the movies, this one did not disappoint. Non-stop action from the minute it started. A little scary at times but all good. Really leaves you hanging waiting for part 2.

I've seen all the Harry Potter movies and was just as lost in this one as I was the others. It was filled with magic, action, and humor. That was enough to make it enjoyable. The movie will definitely hold your attention. However, as with the other movies in this series, it would be most beneficial to read the books first. The bottom line is that it is entertaining and that is what this is all about.

I loved the movie. I have read all the Harry Potter books and have to say that the directors did an amazing job fitting in everything they needed to in 2 hours. this one is by far the darkest one yet, but it was still good for the family and an instant classic!

Well I actually watched all the Harry Potter movies this last week just to refresh myself on the complete storyline. I wanted to be prepared. This movie picked up right where the 6th movie left off and it kept on going. I found it to be the darkest movie out of the rest of the series with a much more serious tone throughout the film. As usual, I still welcomed the laughs that the Weasly twins provided me. I do recommend this movie, but I am wondering if it is really for children anymore.

I really enjoyed this movie, even if Nagini scared me once in awhile.
The movie followed the book rather closely and I didn't see anything that didn't belong like some of the past movies that added things that weren't canon to the books.
The scenes in the movie were very detailed, the action was great, and I was really upset when it ended. I can't wait for the next part of the movie.
Interesting note: Snape had a new wig in this movie. I thought it was much better than the previous one.

The movie was intense, the acting by the 3 main actors was better than ever, as the story was set up for the finale in July. I loved the initial setup as Harry, Hermione and Ron all prepared to leave their old lives behind and set off on this quest. My 10 year old granddaughter, daughter and I all loved the movie. My husband, who is not as intertwined in the HP myth, found the middle piece as the trio search for the horcruxes somewhat boring. The ending however we all found sad, yet satisfying as I wasn't sure where part 1 would end. Overall I can't wait for part 2 and I will watch this one again.

What a fantastic set-up for the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise! This movie was intense, it was hard to believe that when the lights came up that two and a half hours had gone by. When I first learned that they would be making two movies of the final Harry Potter book, I was cynical; thinking it was simply a ploy to make more money on the craze. However, there wasn't a single scene that didn't belong in this film, and from reading the book, I know there is a TON of story left to tell. The film makers did a fantastic job of using beautiful landscapes to capture the mood of the story. Great movie!!

My family and I extremely enjoyed the movie, and I highly recommend it to all. I have to admit though, as another reviewer pointed out, unless you're reading the books you might be lost. I stopped reading the books after Chamber of Secrets so there were moments during the course of this movie that I didn't truly understand what was going on or what they were talking about. I still enjoyed the movie and can't wait for the last one to see how it ends; I just might have to go back and read the books now.

This is the darkest but probably the best acted and possibly closest to the book Potter movie yet. We have watched the kids grow up quite literally in front of our eyes. The lead characters shine in this movie. Also, there is enough explanation of the past to keep the story relevant to those who haven't seen the movies. One large complaint, Dumbledore's funeral is not shown. The last movie did not show it becasue they were supposed to open with it in this film. Other than that let down, quite a good film.

As an avid Harry Potter fan, I have been moderately disappointed year after year as the movies emerge. This particular Harry Potter film is one of the better ones, but once again I was disappointed with the brevity of the film compared to the books. I could have gone for two part movies for each book!
I would recommend this film to Harry Potter fans, and would be afraid that those who haven't read the books, or at least seen the movies, would be lost.

Well if you are a Harry Potter fan you of course have to go see DH Part 1. The filmmaking is excellent as has simply become more and more fascinating as the series had progressed. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery takes and the darkness of the story.
I did think, however, that it was a bit too drawn at times which is something that just happens with these movies and things are usually described more vividly in a book and you can use your imagination to picture what you are reading.
Will of course see Part II when it comes out!

This movie stays true to the book. It cannot, of course, include all that the book holds but it still conveys the story. If you have read the book, you will enjoy the movie. If you haven't read the book (as my daughter had not), you can still enjoy the movie. Yes, it is dark and slow in places but I believe that was Rowling's intent; it accurately reflects the tedium the characters experience in their quest and the resulting conflict in the trio on their journey. Without the book knowledge there are some unanswered questions but the flow of the story is not really disrupted. Beware of the Nagini scenes for young / sensitive ones. Overall, well done and it received applause at the thanksgiving weekend showing our family attended.

My wife and I loved the film. The Deathly Hallows is so full of story lines we were afraid the story would be lost. No need to fear. The story was clear in all its excitement. The details of the story were never forgotten and told in a vivid way. Add to that the beauty and sharp cinemetograghy. It is a film to get us ready for PART II.

I have taken my grandson to every Harry Potter movie. I have enjoyed them all as much as or more then he has. This movie was very drawn out and for a long period very boring. He said he liked it, thankfully. Hoping that part 2 is more enjoyable.

This was the best Harry Potter movie yet! Albeit darker than the previous movies... the books get darker as well. The writer stuck pretty close to the exact story line. Wormtail is still alive however... just stunned whereas in the book, he was killed by his artificial hand. Other than that detail, for the most part the movie stayed right with the book. Loved it... excellent work! Can't wait for the last movie.

It's not often you can say "it was over too soon" when talking about a movie that's 2-1/2 hours long. This was one of those rare occasions. Great entertainment for young fans and the young at heart.
The pacing was excellent, and the trio of young actors (Daniel, Rupert and Emma) have matured into polished professionals. The effects, as usual, were superb.
I am so glad they split this book into two full-length movies. I look forward to part 2, and expect that it will be as good as, if not better than part 1.

I found Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 to be a beautiful film and the cast did a wonderul job (as usual). Having said that, a downside to the film is the camping scenes, however it also dragged in the book. I was hoping that the "film makers" would cut into the camping scenes and offer a look at what was happening outside of the three, just to break it up a bit.
Overall, it was well done and stuck to the story line with few liberties, although there were some important events/simple things that could have been shown or said to help those who hadn't read the books follow along a bit better.
Overall it was a great film and I will most likely head back to the theaters and see it again.

Great movie! Very dark and sad but true to the story in almost every way. Not a ton of action but a lot of character development which was really good. Actors are all getting so much better. Wonderful supporting cast particularly Helena Bonham Carter. The three main characters are terrific.

Great movie. It's Harry Potter - it would take effort to make it bad. I did not care for the unnecessary sensuality. It is not for little kids, to be sure, but quite true to the book. I would bring back the good old days of epic movies with an intermission, so that we wouldn't have to wait for the next part to come out. Enjoyable film.

This edition of the Harry Potter franchise lives up to the book. Where critics seem to pan this movie for not being at Hogwarts, they are missing the concept of the final book.
This movie delivers in capturing the essence of book seven. Ron, Hermione and Harry are the hunters who are hunted. There is tension among the characters and there is the struggle of carrying heavy responsibility while still growing up.
The adaptation of the first half of book seven combined with the acting and cinematography make this film well worth the wait. It makes the final installment of the franchise that much more anticipated.
In short it is a wonderful film. But it does (rightfully so) assume that the viewer has either seen the previous movies or read the book. It delivers an excellent story.

Yes, as many have said, the book was better. But I don't think it's completely fair to hold the movies to the standard of the books -- the movies will never stand a chance.
This was the best of the Potter movies so far. There was a great deal of intense action; the actors have come so far in honing their skills and developing the characters' personalities; and the graphics were just incredible. The movie did drag in a few places, but I believe that was more a side effect of the overall length of the movie than a deficiency in its content. Overall, a fantastic movie, and as someone who has followed the series since the first book came out, I highly recommend seeing HP7.

I read the book a couple years ago the day it was released and finished it in one weekend. I saw an earlier review but I did not think the movie dragged. I was glued to every minute. I wish it was not in two parts. I would have stayed to watch a six hour if it had a break. Can't wait till all on DVDs and can spend one day watching them all.
