They did a great job in various ways:
- Making it more adult while not making me feel like I was watching a completely different series.
- Greatly Improved acting, character development, and character relations - i felt more committed to the characters than previously
- maintained the integrity of the story line.
As far as comparing it to the pervious HP movies, they did an excellent job.

The movie is well done. It departs from the book where needed, and even manages to improve in a few areas. Yeah. it's a little slow at times, but it does what it is supposed to do- set the stage for the ending.

As always you should read the book first but this was a great part one. It did not at all feel like it was 2hrs 30min, Those who say the movie was too long just don't have the proper appreciation for Harry Potter.

I think they could have shortened this by 30 or so minutes and tacked on the other movie coming next year for a grand finale instead of dragging it out for commerciality. However, you cannot see the last one without seeing this one. Catch 22.

It is more of the same without the storyline and novelty of the first few. Save your money...it is relatively boring and is okay for a DVD rental but not worth the 'big' screen.

The movie counts on the audience being long-time Potter fans. Without an instant identification with the characters the movie would be shallow and tedious. Special effects were good, most scenes faithful to the book. Leads are getting a little long in the tooth to be truly believable. I never felt the movie was too long, that is I didn't check my watch, but it did feel tedious and slow in many places. It's a 90 minute movie stretched so the franchise can rack up another few hundred million.

I enjoyed this outing and the anticipation of the wrap-up. It'll definitely leave a sour taste in many folks' mouths; those looking for a page-by-page enumeration of the book are going to be left sorely dissappointed as a lot of material is discarded, and those unfamiliar with the books will be lost without the premise periodically tracked for them. It's also not a slam-bang, 100mph action flick, either, so if you hate people talking, you'll hate this.
I happen to be a person who loves waiting for the business end of a cliffhanger, doesn't need to see the books visualized word for word, but have read all seven books. There was definitely a good deal of dialogue and plot development - which I enjoyed - and both the action and scare scenes (which are plenty) delivered with authority. A satisfying build-up to the climax of the story line...

the kid thought it was 49 stars out of 5.

Good family movie; advances the story line well; exploring the war between good and evil magic factions. Our kids loved this movie; though the forced stop for "part 1 vs part 2" is very abrupt and leaves you with no closure. If you are a series fan, this is a must see!

I thought this would be a good adaptation of the book, but it exceeded my expectations! Wonderfully true to the book, as well as creative enough to get across the ideas in a shorter period of time. Lots of action and excitement, one part had me jumping out of my seat because I wasn't expecting it. Very well done and the acting was superb. These actors have become the characters in every way, so nice to see them become such impressive actors. Can't wait for the next installment, glad I only have to wait 8 months for it. I may have to go see this again, before that, because it is so chock full of stuff!

Was a little disappointed how slowly it moved; which was true to the book, but a little boring to watch at times. Special effects were fantastic. Not real pleased about where they ended the show. It was anticlimactic. I felt a little cheated at the end, like, "I just paid $66 for that?" Although the movie was good, the ending was lame enough that we'll definately wait for an opportunity to go to the matinee when the final one comes out. Be carefull about taking little ones, I physically jumped in my seat a couple times.

Better than the last one, but still a disappointing adaptation. Yates lingers way too long on unimportant scenes, or wastes time on cliched traffic chase scenes, but passes over important scenes from the book (Dudley saying goodbye to Harry, for example). Although Yates tediously focuses on the main character's romantic relationships, he strangely misses the book's heart .

I tend to be as.....picky as anyone else to how the movies mash up with the books' tale. I thought they did a great job; a long period of time in two 1/2 hours. I was really pleased with the acting. Tremendous jobs expressing complex feelings with just facial expressions. For us book lovers, we know exactly what they are thinking, and those who aren't can still get the gist.
Yes, the ending leaves me as edgy for the last installment as I am sure they wanted to do, but it was a good place.

Fantastic adaptation of the final and most eventful storyline of the 7 book series. I won't say it's 100% true to the book but it is without a doubt the closest of them all leaving little to no plot holes.
This storyline in particular requires at least two full-length films due to the vast amount of time spent in each setting. The pacing was appropriate and respectful to the book.
