Having read all the books and seen all of the movies, my expectations were high and were not disappointed. I am wondering how they are going to tie #1 in with #2 and not lose storyline or important information in #2. This might have been better off as a three parter so as not to lose anything....but as a single movie by its self I loved it. It flowed just like the book. Others had mentioned that they were introduced in the movie to unknown persons just to have them killed off, this is not true; If they had read the books all names used are in the books. GO SEE THE MOVIE. I will see it again in a few weeks with my granddaughter who is also a Harry Potter fan.

This one had me jumping more than once. It was full of action and had you on the edge of your seat for most of it. Very well shot. Definitely the darkest of the film thus far. The next one will be incredible I'm sure.

Great film, however the storyline slowed a couple times. It would have been great to have seen (without giving anything away) the full sequence of event s in the beginning with Mad Eye.

The first part of the Deathly Hallows was amazing! I do not care much about graphics, but it was awesome to watch! Harry and Hermione showed what true friendship is by always standing by each other no matter who tries to get between them! I cried, I laughed, and I cried some more! The best thing about the Harry Potter movies....THEY GO BY THE BOOK AND ARE STILL AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So if you read all the books, you know what is going to happen, now you just get to see someone else's perspective!

Didn't explain anything so most people were lost. The acting is awful except for the incredible established actors like Bill Nighy who signed on. Spent way too much time in the forest. Didn't need the sex scene. All in all a very poor show for HP7. I'm truly disappointed. Don't waste your hard-earned money.

Excellent movie. Very dark and foreboding with lots of surprises. It was a little slow in the middle but I loved the scene when Harry danced with Hermione to pick up their spirits. I loved the finding of the sword in the water as an homage to "Excalibur" and the futile attempts to destroy the horcrux reminded me of the scene from "Lord Of The Rings".

This movie was great! The 2.5 hours just flew by. There was only one sceen that I felt could have been shortened - when they are running in the woods. I was worried that, since it was part 1, I would be left somewhat unfulfilled. That was not the case for mysel nor my dad. I read the book and he didn't and we both thought this movie was OUTSTANDING start to finish!

This is probably the best movie i've ever seen! The music, the scene sets, the characters, and other pieces of it were amazing. The movie followed the book faithfully, and added in awesome extra parts. The movie ends at Shell cottage and when Voldemort finds the Elder wand. I can't wait for the next movie!

Once again, David Yates fails to explain several key points in the story. Fortunately, I have read the book so I never felt lost, but it's quite clear that anyone who hasn't read the book will either not quite understand what is happening in some scenes, or just miss some things entirely. It was far better than The Half-Blood Prince in that regard, but still lacking in explanations for people who haven't read the book. What is most frustrating about this is that, like The Half-Blood Prince, scenes that were not in the book were inserted into the movie in favor of scenes that would have helped the audience understand what was happening. For example, did we really need a silly dance scene between Harry and Hermione instead of a 30 second scene that could have explained why Harry keeps looking at a broken piece of mirror?
With that aside, it's a very good movie. I definitely left the theater anxiously awaiting the release of Part II. I only wish that Yates could have expressed more of what is going on in the story with the allotted 5 (perhaps more?) hours that he had to tell the story.

Confusing lead-in to Part 2

There are lots of explosions and lots of macabre torture and darkness, but not a lot of plot advancement.
Part 1 is a long lead-in to the real story, which will presumably be in part 2. In Part 1, Harry and friends are chased all over England but there's not much tension in the movie. There are ridiculous pauses for weddings and dancing. Then, boom, we're back to the chase. No one is supposed to know where they're hiding, but then friends drop in out of the blue to help them out. (Why are elves slaves to witches when they're more powerful than their masters and mistresses?)
This doesn't make sense to someone who hasn't read the Potter books. Why are they after the horcruxes? Why don't they go after the deathly hallows instead, especially when they know what the hallows are but they don't know what the horcruxes are. And why aren't they working harder to find the horcruxes?

After seeing the movie twice, I definitely think it works well both as a book adaptation and as a film in its own right. Worth seeing, absolutely!!

I really appreciate that large chunks of the book were not taken out of the movie, but at the same time it did not seem to drag on. The 2 and 1/2 hours passed by quickly, and I look forward to seeing part 2 next summer!

I'm not a "hardcore Harry Potter buff" and have not read the books, but I have seen the previous 6 HP movies. Saw this one in I-Max and thought it was really good. Lots of action, great special effects, plenty of dramma and just the right amount of humor.I'd rate this as the best of the movies so far and from what I've heard from some of the real HP buffs, It is pretty much true to the book. I'll admit there some parts that are confusing if you're not well versed in the previous books or movies, but definately worth while seeing!

My now college age daughter and I have enjoyed all of the series ever since the first book was written. This movie was fantastic,it followed the book so well and really captured our attention.

I loved it so much. The affects were great, and the plot stayed on the book. For those who wanted it to be like the book, you got your wish! They had those boring parts that movies normally would take out. I would have stayed for another three hours just to see the 2nd half!

Other than that it's just a bunch of 20-something teenagers displaying the same level of magic one would expect in a third grade talent show. Hands down, this movie is the best of the series! The screenplay follows very closely to the book. I would recommend reading the book first, however you don't have to read it to understand most of the movie. I am satisfied that there are two movies instead of one. It would have been unwise to cram that much action into one movie. There were too many facts and side stories to do such a thing. I can't wait to see the final chapter!

I can understand some of the comments about folks feeling gipped about WB splitting the final book into two movies...however, the way I see it is that instead of trying to cram a few hundred pages into 2 and a half hours, they're doing it in 5+ this time around and thus are able to draw out some of the smaller details and flesh out the story a bit more. Bottom Line: Loved it, great action, some slow points, but all-in-all another great installment in the franchise!

About 12 hours ago I got home after a great night at the Movie. The Movie that millions have waited for: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. This movie wasn't a whole movie, but it was a whole half.
Part 1 will please the most fans of the books since Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It was exceedingly true to the books, it was more naturally adapted than some of the recent Harry Potter films, and it was very well paced. This is mostly to do with the wise decision that Warner Brothers made to split Hallows into two films. WB's decision was good for them (more $$$) and good for fans (fewer fans angry about what they left out).
The pace of this film is what made me really happy. In the past 3 Potter films the plot just seemed rushed and I was disappointed about certain things that were missing (especially the key plot points that are now plot holes.) In the Hallows book, the first half is mostly fearful, figuring-out-what-to-do-next camping. It is a little slow and anxious feeling. I believe that the filmmakers did an excellent job creating this feeling and pace onscreen. They really set the tone for the film right at the start with Voldemort and his disregard for life. He is really evil and the filmmakers want you to know it.
The acting was phenomenal. Rupert Grint gave us an outstanding emotional performance of Ron Weasley. Daniel Radcliffe is excellent and Emma Watson is completely rid of her trying-too-hard facial expressions. The amount of care and effort by the actors is definitely visible.
The cinematography is amazing. This film was very beautiful and the scenes were very visually pleasing. New composer for Harry Potter Alexandre Desplat's score is superb. The only thing I wish would have been included was some more of Hedwig's theme from John Williams' original score. There was a little, but I would have like a little more. Other than that little detail, I loved Desplat's work. (I'm listening to it as I type this.)
As a story, it was incomplete. But since that is what the filmmakers were intending, I'm happy about it. Fans only have 8 months to wait for Part 2, since it comes out July 15, 2011.
For those people who haven't read the books and are casual fans of the films, this one might be a little tough to follow. That is because it isn't shallow or flaky, it is pure plot meat. Mmm....meat. To the die hard fans, you will be pleased.
Part 1 runs 146 minutes and is rated PG-13. It is definitely not a kid's movie. I give it 10 ramheads out of 10. Go see this movie.
