I will never forgive David Yates for Dumbledore's death scene (Harry just looked like a weenie and there was nowhere near the emotion needed - and where was the DA and the fights??? Those were important!)... However, this movie was excellent! It kept moving, had lots of depth and detail and felt like an appropriate movie for the book. I am extremely happy with this one and am relieved to know that it did the series some justice! The ONLY complaint I can think of was a handheld camera scene outside the burrow with Ron and Harry (and deplorable focusing techniques)... which is not bad for a 2.5 hour movie! Go see it, then go see it again! Can't wait for part two!

It was great. The best of the Harry Potter movies so far. It was definitely the closest adaptation to the book out of all the movies. I just loved it. It was actually pretty scary and I cried twice. I can't wait until the next one!

Saw it at midnight, and it was fantastic. I was upset when it ended. MUCH better effects than previous movies- some parts were actually pretty scary. I thought they stuck with the story line really well, and they got through A LOT more of the book than I expected. I will be seeing it a thousand more times.

As the story has evolved into a very dark phase, so has the look of the movie. This episode was a bit slow and plodding but that is what this part of the story represents, the slow build to the final conflict.
Even if you have read the book and know what is coming, the battles are quick hitting and will still catch you off guard.
Only negative is the sometimes out of focus, blurry uber-high speed sequences, This has become a modern filmatic technique though I am not a fan. Fortunately it was used sparingly unlike the latest Bond offering.
There is alot of detail here and will probably require several viewings to catch all the subtle components. Looking forward to catching the IMAX version.
Great crowd for the midnight showing, these are always a fun event for big releases

Some of the parts were slow because that is the progression of the story and helped set the mood. It is nice that they didn't dumb down the characters - especially the main ones. There was light humor in good places throughout in spite of the fact that the overall tone of the story is serious and tense. Their acting has significantly improved over the years. The scary and creepy parts were not overdone and gave just the right amount of gore without relying on that to carry the various scenes. Great effects and the changes were minor but served as good accents rather than detractions.

In short, it's a very good film. But this film is bound to challenge those who have NOT read the books. Because this film starts with a bang and contains unusual cinematic pauses, anyone without prior knowledge of the overall themes and structure of the HP world will benefit from a bit o' study.
As one of the dastardly few who has seen all the films but who hasn't read the books, I myself was a bit lost at the beginning of the film. Luckily I've been quizzing my friends, and have been learning bits and pieces of the overall story, so the sudden appearance of certain characters wasn't so jarring. It will be for others, so you might want to study up your HP mythology a bit.
On the flipside, I suspect those who know the books well will find this film most engaging. It's loaded with the creepiest, weirdest FX yet, and the adult material is not watered down. It's an intense little gem of a film, and has been well-constructed to bring you back for Part 2. It is by far the most challenging of the films to date, visually and emotionally, and is NOT for young children, not by a long shot.
My only concern is for the "muggles" out there. It moves quickly and assumes you know what's going on. There's very little "hand-holding" in this film story-wise. Either attend this film with a friend who knows the HP storyline, or have one who loves HP standing by when you're done.
(SPOILER -- DON't READ)
Coolest scene: Harry Potter's childhood room. It's Kubrick meets the Wachowskis territory. It's so weird, I wanna check it out again!

This movie had the most dramatic effect on me compared to the rest of the movies. Perhaps it was the thrill of seeing it on opening night, but I honestly think it was more the great filmwork. It seemed to be more daring than the rest: there was scenes of intense drama, scenes with a fair amount of blood, and scenes that were quite scary!
The tough job of having to chop the final Book in half to make two movies certainly made the ending seem a bit abrupt, but after the dramatic build up of Deathly Hallows Part 1, I CANNOT WAIT for the second one to be released.

I thought that this was one of the best movies yet. It stayed to true to the books and moved pretty quickly for a 2 1/2 hour movie. I laughed and cried. It was just a fantastic movie for the die-hard book fans and the casual movie-goer.

This epic series only gets better as time goes on. The acting was beyond belief and had me near tears multiple times throughout the movie. This movie was closest to the seventh book than any other movie has been.

The movie was great. It contained more details fom the book that the other six movies did not have. The actors do a phenomenal job with their emotions and playing the young adults they are suppose to be in the real world and out of Hogwart's protection of teachers. It also did a great job in bringing bits of humor into this movie, which without the humor could end up being a very dark movie.
Overall, the movie is worth watching and seeing the characters come to life from it's book version. I'm counting the months down until the second part.

The acting was very good. The story line as true to the book as possible in less than 6 hours. The hand held camera approach was a bit disorienting at times. The cliffhanger ending, while expected was still hard to take. Knowing the rest is out there is making my daughter crazy!!

Im really ansy & looking forward to the second part already.. because it was SOO good. And it went by so fast- i was so into it. im like omg it finished NOO... i think it ended at the best part. But it was really good- i feel the movie was very truthful to the books is everything i imagined when i was reading it. I was so excited to see this movie finally come out, but was gravely disappointed in the final product. It REALLY drags, is not as entertaining as previous installments and would be completely confusing to those who have not seen the previous movies. It is faithful to the book, but that doesn't necessarily make it good. The acting seemed melodramatic and over the top. There was very little humor in this movie either, which I suppose is meant to match the darker tone of the later novels. Usually I see a Harry Potter movie several times to drink in all the details, but I think this time once was enough. It was not a bad movie, but not a great one either.

This is by far one of the best treatments of the Harry Potter series. Staying true to the book with a few minor exceptions, the movie captures the emotion and intensity that Rowling expressed in the written word. The dark tone of the book which emphasized the serious nature of the direction of the story was brought to the big screen with just the right amount of suspense, emotion and humor that makes this series irristable to people of all ages. Well done -- waiting with great anticipation for Part II.

This Potter movie featured a lot of action, and moved fairly quickly. If you read the book, you know its unpleasant because of all the death and destruction, but the movie does a great job with it. Thank god it didn't come out in 3D like everything else this year. Fantastic job of setting up the remainder of the story. Wish they would have shown what was going on at Hogwarts while they looked for the horcruxes, but they did an excellent job of showing the Ministry of Magic's demise.

I was disappointed with the artistic license taken in the film in regards to some fo the details, Harry's birthday, the wedding prep/actual wedding, Draco's house, etc. but overall it was a good movie. I do wish it had ended on a happier note.

I purposely didnt reread the last book before I saw the movie, so I was free to enjoy the director's vision without being disturbed by contradictions...but best HP movie so far [ I have a feeling part 2 will be amazing]. Suberb acting by the trio, loved the mini-story of the Deathly Hallows, and I did tear up a few times. They did a good job of drawing you into the movie, I barely noticed 2 hours had flown by. Even my boyfriend who has seen a few of the movies and not read a single book enjoyed it immensely. *Caution--has very dark and intense moments...think before taking young children*
