Though the action scenes were mostly left for Part 2, it was an excellent rendering of the book and was almost a huge teaser leading up to Part 2, which I assume will be chock full of action and all the magic that makes the Harry Potter movies amazing.

The best installment of the Harry Potter series to date, "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" stays true to J.K. Rowling's book, more so than any of the previous films. From heart-racing to heart-breaking, the movie pulses with urgency and emotion. It's incredible how those three cute, little kids from "Sorcerer's Stone" have matured into such exceptional actors, flawlessly personifying the young adult versions of the characters they helped introduce to moviegoers 10 years ago. One wonders if J.K. Rowling envisioned the three actors as her characters while penning Potter novels subsequent to the first film. Overall, an extremely fulfilling first installment of the final chapter in the "Harry Potter" saga.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

All I could say at the end of the film was NOOOO! The 2 hours and 30 minutes flew by as I watched this much anticipated film. I was totally unprepared for the end. Thought I had only been in the theater for an hour or so. Well-done, action-packed, and a fitting beginning to the end of this wonderful story. Will definitely be seeing this one again!

I'm a huge fan of the books, and enjoy most of the Harry Potter movies; I found the first installment of Deathly Hallows a bit underwhelming. While some parts were appropriately and expectedly funny (Hermione's bag, Harry as Runcorn, and the Decoy Detonators) or sad (Hermione's parents, Hedwig, and Dobby), the remaining scenes were lacking.
I remember feeling complete excitement while reading the Deathly Hallows book (which I've read and enjoyed 6 times...once in the British-English version). The movie, however, dragged in places and left me wanting more.
I would assume that most people who are solely fans of the movies will be lost while watching this movie. The perfect example is when Harry and "Bathilda" are speaking in Parseltongue; readers of the book will know that Harry is asking if she has the sword, and Bathilda hints at its location. All the movie-fans will gather is that "Bathilda" told Harry to look at an old photo album.
If you are a fan of the books, you will likely understand the movie with no problems. While there are a few differences between the book and movie, this movie does stay fairly close to the book. I'm definitely going to see it again, and I hope my preconceived expectations of grandeur will be left at home this time so I may be able to better appreciate the film. Maybe I need to lower my expectations for Part 2.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

...is having to wait 8 months for the conclusion! Overall, an excellent portrayal of the first half of the book. In my opinion, nothing crucial to the story was left out unlike earlier Harry Potter movies. I feel perfectly set up for the epic finale of the series...can't wait!

Excellent overall, and some particularly great scenes! Definitely a good idea to split the 7th into two movies. They stuck to the book pretty closely, which is always appreciated, and the only things that were cut were good for the flow of the movie. They chose a great point to cut between the two movies. Lastly, the animation for the Tale of the Three Brothers was amazing, truly excellent artwork. I can't wait for the finale!

This was by far the best HP adaption so far! The items left out the book they didn't just skip, they found a way to explain it away or shorten the passage in a way that made sense.
Personally, I'm glad they skipped the 3D for this one - I jumped out of my seat enough without it!
Very happy about where they spilt the book for the movies - it was a place that really was a turning point in the book!
Definitely a must-see for any Potter fan!

Okay. I went into the movie with no real expectations. I try to do that for every movie that I have previously read a book for. However, I felt the movie was rushed in parts and other parts were too drawn out! I also had some major qualms with the Belatrix and Hermione scene and the ending. Not to give anything away b/c I don't believe reviews should be spoilers, but part 2 will have to have some retroactive scenes in order for it to pick up where this one left off.... After all the movie is call the Deathly Hallows and other than Mr. Lovegood..... they weren't really addressed all that much yet.

The Deathly Hallows wasn't accurate. Sure the graphics, special effects and make-up were amazing however many parts of the movie didn't complement the book and it seemed to be lost. The start through the end seemed to be snippits and bit with hole. I found myself asking, 'How di the story line get here? It seemed a bit choppy and sporadic with a dark and synaster and wicked theme. It left me cold and empty. At the end, I had more questions than answers. The one continuous story line is that Harry is as confused and as lost as was the movie. How did it get here, why is it being dragged out (stretched), and why is the good guy such a pathetic looser, while the bad guy is winning at every turn and twist of the story line.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

As a huge fan of the books, I too am infatuated with the movies. The midnight showing last night was great.
**SPOILER ALERT***
I was disappointed not to see the scene at the beginning with the Dursleys, the scene with Dudley is a favorite of mine because it shows that Dudley does in fact care about Harry. The multiple safehouses/portkeys were not used and it doesn't show why Hagrid all of a sudden was slumped over and Harry was trying to drive the bike. I also wish they had stressed the fact that Sirius's house was left to Harry and therefore Kreacher was his "servant elf" and had to do his bidding. Lastly, Harry never took MadEye's eye from Umbridge's door!
That being said - I like the way that they did the scene at the ministry, where people actually saw that it was Harry, Ron and Hermoine. I thought the amount of content and dialogue in the movie from the book was amazing compared to past films. Dobby's death was done so poetically, i'm glad they added him saying goodbye to his friends. I also thought that where they ended the movie was a great half mark to stop, i figured it would either be there or at the Malfoy manor.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

movie made into an epic-like film (e.g. Lord of the Rings-esque). though it felt a bit long at times due to the story itself, the overall film was a must-see! i would not have missed the midnight showing and i am glad i went. i grew up reading the series and watching all the films. the ending of this movie does a nice job setting up the last installment and makes you antsy for the last potter film to be released. the movie also includes comedic moments without going overboard (especially since the movie is so dramatic already). because the last book was filled with so much action and drama, i am glad this movie was split into two films. if everything was crammed into one, it would have left out SO much. every actor was doing a fine job and i appreciate the film! i can't believe the end is near.

Movie 6 left me concerned for the franchise but this installment did not fail. If you are a fan of the books, you will be thrilled with the detail and effects. The story is displayed brilliantly with angst, sentiment and humor and the acting is marvelous. If you did not read the books, (what is wrong with you) you may think the pace is slow but you will still enjoy it. I can safely say that no one watching the midnight opening was disappointed...there were tears, laughter and cheers. Can't wait for part 2.

The choice to split this book into two movies was a good one. After reading the book, I though to myself, "there is no way they can make a good movie out of this. There's simply too much to put into just 2.5 hours, and a lot of it can only be easily portrayed in book form."
However, since it was split, there was plenty of time to include everything important, and do it well. This hasn't been done well since Chamber of Secrets. I was very impressed that nothing was rushed, in fact, the movie went at a perfect pace and portrayed the tone of the book very well.
One of the strongest aspects of the movie was the fact that even if it wasn't based on a beloved book franchise, it would still have been very enjoyable. This can't be said of some other movies (*cough* Goblet of Fire *cough*).
I was very emotional the entire movie. I cried, gasped, and yes, let out a few fangirl squees here and there. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was constantly on the edge of my seat.
I am a part of the generation who grew up on Harry Potter, so I am sad to see this end to an era, but I could not have asked for a better way to end what might be the most influential literary work of the decade.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

With practice comes results and this movie definately met the expectations of being better than the rest!! Of course at the end you wish it would keep going, but with doing it in two parts they were more able to add details that had made previous movies lack that little something. It is a movie and is set to a certain time frame so keeping that in mind I think they did a Awesome job in representing the book! I will absolutely see it again and recommend it to anyone who likes a good movie! Can't wait until part 2 !!!
