I thoroughly enjoyed this movie-gorgeous scenery, supurb special effects and, actually this time, good adaptation (probably helped along by making this final book into two movies!). The focus was on the lead three-as it should be. And, the viewer was totally immersed in the darkness that they (and all of their kind) are facing...and by the end of this 1st part...the viewer knows it will be even worse.
I definitely think that this movie was made for those of us that are "invested" in the books and movies-BUT-it is so well made, that most anyone would enjoy it.
**As a parent, I would not recommend allowing 10 yr olds or younger "tagging along" unless you are comfortable with allowing them to see the relatively
frightening scenes.

My boys liked the action in the movie. I thought it was suspenseful. Could have done without some of the embarrassing Hermione/Harry moments, but otherwise fine.

I'm really glad they decided to make the final book in this series into two movies. This allowed the story to be fully covered. The storyline flowed nicely and allowed the viewer to be caught up in the action. The only problem was I wanted to get the rest of the story now, it will be great when the second comes out and I can watch them together.

Very much in the style of the others in the series. Not much new and different . The storyline is very dark and depressing . Not good for young children . But enjoyable overall if you have been following the series .

I was not impressed with this one. Must have been much cheaper to make then any of the others. Used some old sets, one woods, a field and smoke. Probably should have done one good movie instead of trying to make two out of the Deathly Hallows.

This movie was a satisfying addition to the Harry Potter series, although I was not completely blown away by it. The acting stood out; each person did an excellent job portraying their character. Even though this is only half of the last book, I felt like the movie moved fairly quickly and did not explain things very well. Definitely read the book before you see the movie.

I really liked this movie. It stuck closer to the book that most of the others had. I didn't realize the length until nearly the end and I was amazed it had already been 2.5 hours. If you like the books and the movies, you'll love this one, though if you haven't read the book you might be a little confused with all the scenery changes. By the way, beautiful countryside! Where was that when I was in England? The ending was a logical place to end and the only real breaking point, if there was one at all in the book. I can't wait for the next part to come out!

Dark, atmospheric, and tense, this movie completely gets the story right. I've heard others complaining "they spend most of the movie in that tent!" but that's the whole point. It's all about their desperation and how far they've been driven away from everything that is dear to them and everything that we all take for granted. I loved this movie and can't wait for Part 2. The only thing wrong with it is that I know it's the beginning of the end, literally.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 1 is an excellent addition to the movie franchise and a worthy interpretation of the first part of the final book. I enjoyed every minute, and disagree with other reviewers regarding the pace of the book and this film. It is deliberate; after all, we are building to the crescendo of crescendos here, folks! But it is no less intense, nor is there a lack of action. I caught myself holding my breath several times.
Emotionally, this is the most satisfying of the films to date for me. Each actor knows his character so well that even those with little screen time in this half make every moment onscreen count.
I bought my tickets several days early to be assured of getting seats for the showing on Saturday after the premier and was very glad I did, because it was a sellout. And I needn't have worried about sitting in a noisy theater because every member of the audience young and old was as captivated by this movie as I was.
I can't wait to go see it again!

Although some parts of the movie dragged a bit, the 2-1/2 hours flew by quickly. The characters were wonderful, as usual, even though we didn't see as much of the cast this time besides Hermione, Ron, and Harry. Viewers who didn't read the books will probably not like the movie as much since it just isn't possible to explain every detail. I would have preferred a different ending spot--it just kind of left you hanging, but not in a way that makes you want to see more. All in all, the movie was enjoyable...just not their best.

I have seen all the previous Harry Potter movies and thought they were fantastic. However, this one leaves much to be desired. The excitement and pace does not match those shown before. There were several places where the movie became too much of a trauma-drama which may have be done purposely in order to have a part 2. Had the pace been as usual, the movie could have been slightly lengthened and there would not be any need for part 2 but, then, the producers would not make as much money.

This was the movie of the year. it tops everything. for those that did not like some of the transitions in the movie, you MUST NOT have read the book. this movie expressed and put to life every detail from the book. this movie deserves more than 5 stars. if you are a movie watcher fan then you enjoyed this movie. if you are a book fan, then you were left speechless and cannot possibly wait until July 15, 2011. this movie was just that epic. THE BEST. the ending was perfect and left the book fans wondering in awe with their imaginations. if you read the book, then every bit of your imagination came to life in the movie. i cannot type enough how great the movie was. BRAVO!

I'll start out by telling you this: I didn't hate it. That said, I didn't like it either. I know I wasn't alone in feeling that way, because three people walked out of the theatre in a huff. One even slammed the door behind her. I understand that this front half of the book was a downer, and while I can appreciate that the franchise tried very hard to stay true to the book, it didn't work for them. The pacing was off throughout most of the film, and I found myself checking my watch toward the last portion of the movie.

This was a truly enjoyable movie, and the 2 1/2 hours flew by. I didn't want the movie to end and can't wait for Part 2 to come out. I went to this movie with my 3 adult children and 2 of their friends. We had a great time and would recommend this movie to teenagers and above.

Excellent movie! Classic Harry Potter with lots of action and "edge of your seat" suspense. A very dark drama that pulls you into the story to the point where you forget that it is 2.5 hours long!
