Dont get me wrong this was a great movie, wtih even better special effects but if you are going to direct a movie on a book that is world famous and break it into two parts, dont skip important information. Like Dudley saying "thank you" to Harry (which is important given how he has always been portrayed), also while escaping to the burrough it wasn't hedwig but Harry's only one good spell the Expelliarmus that gave him away, also skipping the entirety of chapter 6, which gave Ron the ability to go off, and at least read part of what Rita Skeeter wrote about Dumbledore, although harry had read some knowledgeable stuff before the wedding, the movie just did not include any of it. All that is important for the scene before he kills voldemort. Good movie just as always stop leaving out important information that helps make the movie

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One was a fantastic translation from the book. Only minor details were left out, and most of those were logical based on the way it was filmed. The acting was superb and the film delivered loads of excitement and fun. Definitely a must-see for fans of the books and movies. It will make you wish July were here already.

This movie was so much better than I expected. It was dark, intense, exciting, and with a bit of romance in between. It was also a lot more sexual than I expected. I think a lot of the scenes were way scarier than they were in the book, which made it even better. I cried at the end, of course. I also felt really sad after the movie, knowing that there's only one more movie left before the Harry Potter phenomenon officially ends. It's kind of depressing. I will most likely watch this again before it comes out on DVD.

Loved it! Definitely left the theater wanting more. It had a bit of everything, overall pretty dark and scary but with some funny parts thrown in to relieve the tension.

I have four kids (ages 5-16). All of my children love HP (as do I!), so the 16 yr old daughter and I went to see the midnight premier. Overall, a good movie but a little long and some parts started to actually drag for me.
The beginning was excellent! Lots of action and it was nice to see so many of the characters. I know the movie was more true to the books this way, but it seemed to drag with Harry, Ron, and Hermione being in the woods and in hiding for so long. The fact that they spent the whole movie looking for only the one horcrux (with three still left to find in Part 2), I think, is what made it seem to drag most.
The action scenes are definitely too intense for my 5 yr old with her very active imagination, and the length of dialogue without any action may start to bore her. It may even be a little too much for my almost 9 yr old son, but I know we would never hear the end of it if we didn't let him go (since he has the Harry Potter themed bedroom)!
The "brief sexuality" between Harry and Hermione in Ron's hallucination was a little over the top and, in my opinion, not necessary for this movie. I'm definitely not a prude, and I know the characters are older, but they are still only supposed to be 16 yrs old in this film. I think the director could have shown Harry and Hermione kissing (passionately even), with the supernatural "bronzed" skin, without them being naked. Of course, you can't see them from the front or back (it's only a side view) but you can clearly see that they are naked, or at least the illusion of being naked (the curve of Hermione's breast), and groping each other as if they are having sex. Even my 16 yr old and I raised an eyebrow at each other during that scene, and I could see some other kids/teens with parents in the audience squirm with embarrassment. (I am taking my 12 yr old daughter and a group of her friends to see the movie again tonight. I know they are still of the age where kissing scenes can be embarrassing, so I'm sure this will make them more than blush.)
From an acting standpoint, all the actors were wonderful. I was especially impressed with Rupert Grint. His character has really evolved the most - going from a bumbling, awkward boy to this almost heroic young man. He did an excellent job of showing us Ron's "darkside" to where I almost forgot it was the same character and actor even.
I felt like the movie itself used a better mix of lighting as compared to some of the others in the series. The story itself is much more serious and dark. The director did a good job keeping that eerie, dooming feeling without over-doing it throughout the whole movie and brightened the light and color when there was no real imminent danger happening at the time. (No overuse of sepia-like lens filters here.)
That all said, I almost wish they would have made this a 3 1/2 hour movie instead of two 2 1/2 movies (Parts 1 and 2). However, I have to assume now that all the "action" will come in Part 2. However, HP fans will still appreciate the length because it is more true to the books and this way they get to see their favorite three characters on screen for much longer. Overall, I would recommend this movie and I am looking forward to seeing it again tonight, since I do seem to have a greater appreciation for the HP movies the more and more I see them.

By far, Deathly Hallows is the best of the Harry Potter series. There are still some changes to the story line, but not enough to hurt the movie's greatness. Best filmed, best story, and best characters. I would recommend this to EVERYONE!

soooo anyone else notice how they added and took away a lot from the book? I know that they're supposed to do that but these were blaring high points. To go along with this complaint: I know that the horcrux Harry and Hermione were supposed to kiss in front of Ron, but I don't remember anything in the book about them being naked and all but doing it on screen. I also am not very fond of the new animation that they use for Dobby and Kreatcher. While this was still a pretty decent movie I don't recommend it for younger crowds. It's pg-13 for a reason...

They finally got one right!! Yes, there are things I could pick out that I wish they hadn't changed or left out, but overall, it was great!! The intensity and emotion of the story was really well captured in this film. I loved it! Hopefully it will be a great lead-in to Part 2, but we won't know until July!

As many people agree, Harry Potter movies have slowly become worse as the years go on, usually because of time constraints. But due to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow's being in two separate parts there are not time constraints, enabling them to include almost all of the information that the book provided, which is a big reason as to why the first movie was such a hit. I give this 5 stars because it follows the book, it doesn't have "false endings", and the acting is great. I am very excited for Part 2 and I'm sure other's are as well.

The decision to split the book into two parts turned out to be an excellent idea, because it allowed the adaptation to stick very close to the book (thus far). The action sequences are compelling and appropriately creepy, the quieter scenes of the trio on the run maintain much of their emotional resonance. Kudos to the kids for their best acting in the series. There were even a few artistic surprises, such as the animation of the Tale of the Three Brothers. Nearly pitch-perfect movie adaptation of a wonderful book.

Unlike the other movies where there were a lot of details ignored or left out for time constraints, this one was fairly true to the books. There is a lot more plot detail in this one and the sequences were well done.
The actors have definitely grown over the years and you can see it in their performances in this film. I can't wait for part II.

As everyone knows, the process of creating a movie from a book (or series of books) is a difficult one. Information always gets left out, and a series as extensive and detail-rich as Harry Potter is no exception. What an amazing movie, this is hands down the best of the series. The emotions of the characters and the scenes really draw you in to the movie. This is a dark one and really shows how grim it is during this time period of the series. The only problem is that it is cut in two parts because I wasnt ready for it to end, I wanted more.

This movie takes you on a wild ride of fear, anger, and laughter. The depth of the characters make you a part of this film. You feel as if you are sharing the adventure with lifelong friends as well as their anger, fear, desperation and love for one another. The one-liners are often a welcome break from the tense emotional moments. I am anxious for the last chapter, but also a little sad to say goodbye to this world of enchantment.

This movie was absolutely the best of the series so far. It was dark and stuck almost exactly to the book, which did the book a lot of justice as well. The way that they added things within the film that would have otherwise have been confusing if they stuck strictly to the book was done in a great way. I was personally worried because the book is so extensive that I didn't know if they would be able to adapt it to film, but they did so elegantly.

I felt that this first part of the last movie for Harry Potter was awesome. And this is coming from someone who has been a Harry Potter fan since the books started coming out. I started reading them when I was in Elemantary and Here I am a Freshman in College. I love the books, have read them all more than three times, and I think that they do a great job recounting the story in the movie. It was to Good. I love Harry Potter and J.k Rowling for being so creative to come up with this story.

I was speechless when this movie was over. It got my full attention from the beginning to the end. I have to admit i was a bit surprised how faithful they were to the book, I was afraid I was coming in with so much expectations. But I was happy with it overall. I abosutely loved it! I grew up with Harry Potter, first the books then the movies. I don't think July 15th can come fast enough. Accio July! Daniel, Emma, and Rupert were incredibly amazing in the movie. Daniel was right when he said this movie has a different feel to it, it currently did. I'm definitely going to see it again soon! I can't stop thinking about it. And the Dobby part, I know I've read Deathly Hallows a few times, but in the movie I was in tears. (Mind you, I don't cry much when it comes to movies) Everyone should watch it. It's the best movie yet, but just wait til part 2. Expect world breaking records. Expect terrible things, great yes, but terrible.
