While I have enjoyed the HP series and was looking forward to this one, I was at a severe disadvantage trying to figure it out without having read the book. This is half a movie that requires the Part 2. The place where it ended left me frustrated and uncertain about the details I had just been shown.
It would have been better to release both movies at the same time, so that those of us who needed the loose ends explained can get those explanations (as there have been in every other HP movie).
The theater we saw the movie in also had a problem speaker that added a hum to the action throughout the film.
I give it 3 stars in hopes that the finale to this movie redeems it.

I loved the darker aspect of this film. Even among the other films of the series that deal with death and dark magic this film stands out as foreboding and dreary. However, the story is well-told (although not as in-depth as the book) and the cinematography left me mesmerized during many parts of the film. I'm really looking forward to part 2.

This movie was fantastic. I only wished it was longer. As an avid Harry Potter fan who has read the books repeatedly I also felt a little cheated that they left vital parts of the book out. I sincerely feel that if these events had been incorporated into the film, the film would have ROCKED!!! These are the items that should have been meantioned: Kreacher's Story. Dudley's goodbye, and Lupin's visit to Grimauld Place. There were other little things too that could have been better like Ron's reaction to Hermione's torture by Bellatrix. That said, I did love the movie. I've watched it twice already and am planning to see it again and again.

A bit Dark for such a movie and the although the movie is 2:30 long but it did not feel long at all.
Not a huge fan of HP series... but the magic and special effect is wonderful.

The movie continued the story well. It kept the dark feeling of the book. Although there were a few changes from the paper version I can honestly say I enjoyed it. However, I saw it on the mega sized screen and during the scene with the catchers I nearly had a seizure. Something about the way they film those scenes where they bounce all over from person to person in rapid concession, hurts my eyes and brain. They didn't do it when the Death Eaters were chasing Harry, but did with the catchers, very annoying. But aside from that I felt it was a wonderful experience.

I am so pleased on how close they stuck with the book. I was apprehensive on how they were going to end this movie, but I thought they did an excellent job. I can't wait for the final movie. I'm sure they will end it with a bang.

Definitely the darkest of the HP movies, but done very well. Reflects the feel of the book as well as you can for a movie. Very enjoyable and accurate to the book. Too dark for young children.

I did not read the Harry Potter books so I cannot base this movie on it but, I did not think this movie was great. I did not hate it either. The part with the Elf was sad. I did keep waiting for the movie to end, though. It just sorta seemed to drag.

Being an avid Harry Potter fan, I was very pleased with the movie. I must disagree with those who felt the film lacking, but when you try to translate a 1200 page book into a film, tough decisions must be made. It followed the spirit of the book better than earlier films did. We also experienced it as a D-Box experience. That added tremendously to the whole theatrical experience. I recommend it highly !

Such a disappointment for the beginning of the end for Harry Potter fans. Almost 3 hours of being lost and wishing I had gone to watch anything other than what I just sat through. I have enjoyed all of the other movies and was hoping that the last would be fitting, however to not even see Hogwarts school the entire movie...Sad, depressing, scared to spend the money on the very last one now.

Just a Little Off but Still Great

I thought that the movie was one of the best and stuck true the book. However, there are some parts that went a little off of the storyline or cut out scenes that were supposed to be more important.
Some examples would be that scene with the locket and Kreacher in the Grimmauld Place, it was supposed to be a moment when Kreacher was emotional and Harry, Ron and Hermione see a different side of Kreacher. But the scene was a little dull and was just Harry ordering Kreacher around. And tiny details like Dean, Ted and the goblins not camp out in the forest so the heroes could hear what was up in the real world and the part with Xenophilius's house was a little disappointing. You could see that Mr. Lovegood was nervous and such then he goes downstairs sure. But the part when Harry goes into to Luna's room and sees the faces of her friends, one on each wall, and notices she hasnt been there in a while was something to show how much Luna cared about Neville, harry, hermione and GInny. Also the way they find out Xenophilius is hiding somethhing. In the movie it was like bang! Mr. Lovegood's house is blowing up? Oh okay....
But other than the few sections they left out of the movie from teh book, the graphics were better than ever. Scenes like when Ron stabbed the Horcrux or the dancing scene with Hermione and Harry gave me shivers. The movie was definitely more inclined for people who had read the books because in this movie they did not explain everything like they usually do in previous films. This movie was the very true to the book with snipits here and there but then adding some great parts. I recommend seeing this movie not only because it is Harry Potter but because it is beatifully done, ex. Dobby's burial, and cleverly screenwritten.

While I was counting on the two battle scenes captured in the movie, it didn't show much. You can't get rid of Mad-Eye Moodie with just a comment. There was more to the escape than a jet pack and Hagrid. The scene at the Lovegoods was disappointing as well. The connective tissue of the search was weak. There were scenes in the movie where I thought I was in the Blair Witch Project and it was barely viewable with all the bouncing and cut-and-past. Very poorly done.

Both my wife and I loved it for its faithfulness to the mood of the book, and the continued development of the characters. It is slow, as was the first half of the "Deathly Hallows" book—a suspenseful silence and waiting, punctuated by outbursts of violence. Will see it again, and can't wait for the final chapter.

As with all adaptations from book to movie things get left out. However they have done a great job on the first part of the story. The book was a bit slow going but explained a lot and they tried to do the same in the movie. I enjoyed the movie immensly.

I was disapointed in this one. It was too slow and if I had not just read the book, I would have wondered what was going on. I guess the director figured everyone would know the important details. I was sorry that they divided this book into 2 parts and feel it would have been better and more exciting as one. You have to "love" Harry to sit through this more than once.

Harry Potter and his pals have grown older and are forced to face darker challenges.Their friendship is put to the test. The intensity and excitement is still present in this story, but it's slightly slower moving and more thought-provoking. Potter's nightmares are constant, and we're sometimes not sure if it's a dream or reality. Like at the end of all the books, you're left with great anticipation for the next... and in this case the last. Absolutely can't wait!

Took the family to see this movie and we throughly enjoyed every bit of it! We have seen other Harry Potter movies in the past but this was by far our favorite! We are all looking forward to seeing Part 2 and would highly recommend it!

Definitely not a bad film! For somebody who has never read the Harry Potter books, it was a bit confusing at points, but overall it was exciting and definitely leads me to want to watch Part 2! I'll see you at the theater in May!

My son , husband and I thouroughly enjoyed this movie. It was very true to the book and flowed better than most of the movies. It wasn't choppy and rushed. While the mood was very dark it fit with what was happening to the characters and leaves you in great anticipation for the end. A little sad too.
