One of the worst movies I have ever witnessed. Bad acting and an equally lousy script. Please tell me there won't be a sequel.

At first this movie was kinda weird, but it started making since. It was hilarious throughout, and the whole theater laughed at random stuff xD. Overall the actors were good, and this movie is a must watch :D

I guess I wasn't expecting much with this movie to begin with. I generally like Seth Rogen movies, so my expectations were not high.
If you're looking for a well-acted, plot intensive movie, this isn't it. Christoph Waltz's talents are completely wasted, he spends more time worrying about his attire than being a baddie. There was no point to having Cameron Diaz in the movie, it seems like she was simply eye candy for the guys watching the movie. Rogen played Britt Reid like he plays his other characters: goofy, and arrogant. To me I wasn't bothered too much by that though. But I have seen the Green Hornet TV show, and if I was more of a purist, I would be utterly disgusted by what this movie has done with it. The best character was Kato, he was a total bad-ass, loved the Bruce Lee reference.
Overall, if you're looking for a matinee where you don't have to pay full price, this makes for a good popcorn movie. I have no plans to see it again in the theater, as I think it would be a waste of money. Kids loved it though, and we'll be looking forward to having it on DVD.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As a kid, I watched old tapes of The Green Hornet TV show, mostly because it featured a young actor named Bruce Lee.
The Green Hornet and Kato were pre-digital cool with their high tech gadgets and choreographed fights. They were ahead of their time.
This movie is a complete and utter disaster. It's like they wanted to destroy the property and all it stood for.
Seth Rogan is awful as the lead. He is a doofus and an ass and he stays that way throughout the film. He is such a selfish and insecure actor that he can't bear anyone getting any appreciable screen time.
Chou as Kato is competent but his character is under-served. And Edward James Olmos mumbles into his chest for the whole movie and Oscar Winner Christoph Waltz is wasted.
But Cameron Diaz takes the supporting actor booby prize. She is too old to play these ingenue roles and the quest to get her into her underwear is not worth the money shot. She could have been the bold, aggressive reporter but no, she has to be the 40 year old temp in a tight dress. Unbelievable.
They blow up a lot of stuff in this movie and in the end, you'll wish they blow up the movie screen.

I rated it as fair. They destroyed the comic to get some laughs.
There was a decent amount of comedy, but written by Seth Rogen for Seth Rogen, this just seems like it was best left for a cable TV premiere.
It had some funny moments, but was not what it was hyped to be

We just saw Gulliver's Travels and that was horrible! This movie was not as bad. I agreed with the gentleman who wrote "they could have done a lot with this character" and "they made him out to be a bumbling idiot" . Seth Rogen seemed to be trying to hard to play a role, not great acting at all. Kato I liked! Cameron Diaz was o.k. she seems to have the same facial expression and mannerisms in every movie which is a bit annoying. Tom Wilkenson definitely played a great role and was by far the best actor.
I never followed Green Hornet as a kid but when I watched this I thought "was Green Hornet a goof ball who did not know how to fight and had no intellect?" If he wasn't than they just destroyed this character. The car was awesome, the logo was fabulous, I just wish they could have found someone else to play Green Hornet that actually cared about keeping the integrity of the character. Kind of weird to watch a stoner, frat boy play a super hero . . . just my thoughts on it.

I am not a huge comic book nerd so I don't know what the original series was like & have nothing to compare it to which sometimes can be helpful.

It seems everyone has already commented on why the movie was so bad and while I completely agree with them, I find leaving the theater I’m left with another, longer lasting bad taste in my mouth…the absolute waste of it.
Growing up I watched the Green Hornet. And since then, aside from the comics, no one has really done anything with the property. This was their opportunity, their chance to revive this figure. To elevate him back to the likes of Superman and Batman. But instead they chose to make him some kind of “drew carey” superhero…weak, bumbling and unskilled. A whiny spoiled child who wants to take credit for everything, yet do nothing…all in all, a complete embarrassment.
They could have launched a whole new franchise here. Seriously, this property had everything, a cool car, toys and gadgets galore, martial arts, great colors and an emblem/logo that was both bold and memorable. It could have been a marketing dream, one that I would have gladly stood in line to purchase.
Now, I don’t even want a poster. I find myself just shaking my head at the utter waste of it all.

The Green Hornet and his main man Kato are some real L.A. heroes! The West Coast has been in need of a funky dynamic duo for a long time! Like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre...Here they are!
And "there is something about" Cameron Diaz that makes this movie complete! Not to mention the stellar performances of Edward James Olmos and Chistoph Waltz!
The cast is excellent and the story superb! It has the perfect blend of action and comedy; at times formula, but with unexpected twists and turns!
Seth Rogen's comedic timing is on the money! He's real funny! While Jay Chou is a charismatic fighting machine! Together they are a force to be reckoned with!
The weapons and gadgets in this film are hip and off-the-wall. They'd make 007 jealous!
But don't take my word for it. Check out this pop culture phenomenon at your local theater, and witness the action leap from the comic book page onto the big screen!
Then check out Kevin Smith's "Green Hornet" graphic novel! You'll be glad you did!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

While it may not ultimately prove memorable enough to launch a new film franchise, The Green Hornet is still a fun action-comedy and clever superhero satire that's about as close to a cool summer movie as you're going to get in the dead of winter. This appears to be a breakout role for the talented and charismatic Chou, whose star should rise in Hollywood. The movie is full of visual eye candy that includes use of a split screen and rapid editing to speed up the car chases and... The Green Hornet" has enough kicks and verve to keep the winter blues at bay, at least for a little while and is a real must see."
Yes, I recommend this movie.

First off, let me say that I am not a movie snob. I view movies as entertainment and escapism. If a movie can hold my interest for 2+ hours and keep me invested in the characters, then I'd say it's a good movie. Great movies are the ones where you completely lose track of time and are not because you fell asleep, but because they are truly engrossing. So I didn't expect this movie version of the Green Hornet to change my life, just to allow me a 2 hour vacation. My husband sold me on this by saying they were doing a comedy version of the show. Problem is, it's not funny. I now need another vacation movie to scrub my brain out.
Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet? I was perturbed from the minute I heard that for several reasons: Seth Rogen is not any woman's idea of a hero, or an action star, or really, even a date. Let's be honest—he's not as funny as he thinks he is, he's not handsome, he's not a "man," and like Jack Nicholson, almost every part he gets is a version of himself. We never lose Seth Rogen in the part—he's always just himself. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it doesn't work in this movie.
The reason I gave this 2 stars is because of Kato and Lenore (Cameron Diaz), a good comedic actress almost totally misused in this movie. The scene where she kicks both Kato and the Green Hornet's asses is pretty amusing. Seth Rogen as Brit Reid was as disappointing as I thought he might be, even though I tried to keep an open mind. When his father dies and he is left all his dad's money and his newspaper, he doesn't step up to take responsibility. Instead he throws a tantrum because his morning coffee is no good and then goes off to deface a statue of his dad.
Of course, after he does that, he helps, (and I use the word loosely), to draw the attention of a bunch of thugs off of a young couple and onto himself. After Kato dispenses with all of them while Brit looks on, Brit decides they should become a superhero crimefighting team because of the way "he" kicked the bad guys' asses. In spite of the fact that Kato does everything—makes the coffee on a an espresso machine he designed and built, outfits the car with anything and everything a superhero's car should have, makes a gun for Brit with knockout gas, does 99% of the fighting, etc, etc, etc., Brit labors under the illusion that he is awesome. He gives no credit to anyone else, especially Kato, and throws a tantrum every time something doesn't go his way or someone points this out to him.
I wanted to see a "hero," nay, a "superhero," but I got Rogen's Knocked Up character in a mask. Not cool. Of course, if Judd Apatow had written this, it probably would have been funny, but Seth Rogan wrote it and he's just not that funny, It was a waste of $10.50 for 2d, and thank God I didn't spend more for 3D or Imax.
My husband liked this movie more than I did, but he did comment that the whole concept of modern men being whiney, self absorbed, entitled, petulant candy asses is getting really tiresome. I agree. I want my superheros to be real men. Imagine Brit Reid going up against Rooster Cogburn and Marshall LaBoeuf from True Grit. Better yet, imagine him going up against Mattie Ross from True Grit. She could take him one handed and without a gun.
Now they need to get busy rewriting this as a serious kick ass movie and cast Matt Damon as the Green Hornet. He could bring the proper gravitas to the role, not to mention the acting chops.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I read some user reviews before watching this movie, and those reviews matched exactly what I feared; consequently, I almost didn't watch this movie. But then movietickets.com was selling the 1200 noon show for the early morning price, so I figured that I could stomach any misstep in curiosity for six bucks. But I only had my AMC entertainment cards to spend (which I don't think you can use via this website) so I had to go to the theater to buy my tickets. What do you know, I was right all along (movietickets.com might have been wrong, or have been undercutting themselves for promotional reasons), and I ended up paying $9. But I was there, so I purchased the tickets, feeling I may later regret it. But to my surprise the movie was fun--both humorous and explosively entertaining--so I personally thought it was worth the money. Clearly it was an homage to Bruce Lee, as Kato was clearly the hero in the film, but just as clearly was unabashedly forced to accept second billing. But this time it wasn't attributed to "happenstance", for you could clearly tell the writers saw some of the 1970's shows and decided to make Kato even more incredible than watching Bruce Lee through the use of CGI, and by through the details of capacity: Kato can't complete a resume enumerating his skills, but he can do anything from making the best cup of cappuccino by a machine he himself built, to appreciating and even playing classical piano, to engineering and building cars and weapons systems, to manipulating chemistry and biology to build bulletproof glass and knockout gas bullets, to mastering martial arts to a point that he can consciously execute moves in his head like a computer playing chess against multiple opponents, to being smooth with the ladies (at least, almost). It makes you think that this is the superhero version of an alternate universe wherein the rock band "Van Halen" is called "Lee Roth" instead. (For those of you too young or too xenophobic to appreciate this reference, I apologize, but despite me myself being black, I am also 38, and Van Halen rocks!). In this universe, Seth Rogen plays David Lee Roth, aka Britt Reed, aka the Green Hornet; he is kind of obnoxious, loud, stupid, and and overall goof ball, but you love him. Also, there are enough solos for the lead guitarist (aka Kato) for you to appreciate who really is behind the genius of the music. I liked this movie, and I didn't waste the time or money to see it in 3D.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If you want to be entertained moderately for an hour and 48 minutes, this movie may be worth the $1.00 Red Box Rental.
It is an unfortunate remake of a classic. I was glad that I did not see the IMAX ($19) nor the 3D ($16) versions of this. It was entertaining but at the end of the movie, you feel like there was something missing. Was I looking for the substance that Spiderman, Batman, and Superman movies provided to us in the past? Cameron Diaz was at that movie and hopefully did not get paid much for showing up in 4 scenes??
The Kato character was the highlight of the movie but I still was looking for something that the character would bring out. Maybe an Action Hero look? Jay Chou is an average B-movie actor who got lucky with this film.
Kudos to the producers and marketing staff for stirring up this movie that made me watch this at the very first screening at 12:01am. You owe me one.

My friend had two tickets to pre-screen this movie, so I got to see it for free with my friend Phil. Before I say anything else, I want to make a confession. I have very little prior knowledge of the Green Hornet. I have heard of him. That's it. I don't know Green Hornet canon, or previous films, comics, shows, or whatever. I had a vague idea he was originally a radio character (this was confirmed by Phil.) That being said, I really like comics and superheroes. If you notice the title I have set in a nice bold font a paragraph above, it essentially sums up The Green Hornet movie experience.
It is very obvious that Seth Rogen had a lot of say in the direction and writing of this film. His writing and lead in this movie is essentially what makes Hornet hard to enjoy. In this movie, Britt Reid AKA The Green Hornet is a bumbling, self-absorbed, clueless guy that is somewhat likeable but has a tendency to create awkward situations because of his extreme lack of social awareness and many times comes across as (and is) a big jerk. Not because he's a bad guy, but because he doesn't know any better. He's not aware of it. Notice that this character description pretty much fits every role Seth Rogen has played since he has become known. This character fits for the lazy pothead or the poor schmuck Rogen has played before. We expect those traits in those roles. It doesn't work for The Green Hornet.
It's clear once you are watching the movie that Rogen and the other writers were going for more comedy than a serious superhero film. I suppose I was a little naive to expect more from the movie knowing Seth Rogen, but still, I expected a little more for a comic-to-movie superhero film. Reid's father is the Editor-in-Chief and the owner of a popular LA newspaper, The Daily Sentinel. As the son of a rich man, it makes sense for Britt to be the party-hardy spoiled guy that he is. It would also make sense that the given the death of his father and the transformation into the Green Hornet, Britt would undergo a character change. That he would mature and become this responsible crime fighter. This never really happens. For almost the entire movie Britt is incompetent, jealous, manipulative, and childish. It's supposed to be funny I suppose, but I spent most of the movie with my hand over my face.
Now I suppose you could say that there is a change in Britt by the end of the movie, but its not the deep character change that I was hoping for. Even when Britt admits jealousy or a mistake, he still doesn't get what's going on. He turns around and does something stupid. In a scene where he begs his secretary (which he sexually harasses constantly) to come back and help him because she actually knows something about journalism and criminology, he goes from a serious apology to attempt to making out with her. I know, I know, this is supposed to be funny. If you like situational, Michael Scott from the Office, humor then I guess it is. To be fair I am not a fan of that so I am biased. But I don't think its a good take on a superhero movie. And he never stops being incompetent. In the climax of the movie, Britt has a moment where it looks as though he is actually going to be the Green Hornet and fight bad guys. There is awesome scene where everything is moving in slow motion and he kicks the butts of four or five guys at a time on the way to save his partner Kato from the mob boss....and then he trips. Bah. This isn't the Pink Panther. Incompetent super heroes aren't inspiring to watch.
Then take the mob boss, Chudnovsky. (Later Bludnovksy and a ridiculous blood-red theme.) The very first scene in the movie deals with how un-intimidating he is. It turns out he controls all the crime in LA and is a very dangerous man. But honestly? He's not intimidating. It's not an actor issue, its a writing issue. His character isn't scary. He's supposed to be the main villain. He's comically self-conscious about the image he projects to others; to the point that at the end he tries to mold himself into this supervillian Bludnovksy that the movie makes clear only comes across as corny and dumb. Instead of competent and evil. Sure he shoots people willy-nilly, cuts a dudes arm off with a table saw, buries the Green Hornet and Kato alive in their car. But even then he's just a bad guy. He's written specifically to be un-impressive. In the context of the film, it's funny but this brings me to what I'm really trying to say.
You might be thinking: "Okay, so this movie isn't what you were expecting, Taylor. Big deal. It's a comedy and not a superhero movie." Yeah. But what I am saying is that I don't think it works as a concept. Comedic superhero...meh. The Green Hornet would work way better as a darker film, or at least a serious one. I'm not saying it the movie can't be funny. Iron Man was funny and Robert Downey Jr. made Tony Stark goofy. But he was still a legit hero. Kato, the sidekick, does all the work. He makes the special car. He makes the costumes. He invents the name. And he does all the actual crime fighting. Rogen plays a Hornet that does nothing but get in the way and then take credit for himself. Bleh.
All that being said. The Green Hornet isn't as terrible of a movie as I make it out to be. There are some genuinely funny parts and Kato is pretty awesome. But if I had paid for this movie rather than pre-screening it fo' FREE!...I would have felt like I wasted my money. Definitely a rental.
Thanks for reading. (If anyone actually does, haha.)

Why did they choose Seth Rogen? Let him do the goofball rom-com movies. He is not a cool action movie guy, I mean come on. Lame.

The idea the Brit Reed is a bungling playboy who likes to play with toys will change a potential generation of Green Hornet fans into people who don't care. Another comic book ho hum. The idea that such a critical character is made to be less than a complete character is as bad as Kato treating him as someone who is worth knowing. This is the worst thing anyone could do to an excellent duo and it is probably exactly what they wanted.
