I was really skeptical about what they were going to do with this and I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I have since read reviews stating disdain for this remake & it's desecration of the original performance by Lon Chaney Jr. Come on people, Lon Chaney Jr. was as campy & cheesy & even more whiny than any of the actors in this remake. If you are in the mood for fun, scary, violent, make you jump, campy, and sometimes cheesy.... then go see this movie! It really embraces it's original roots and I love it for that. The transformation sequences are truly amazing, fun and sometimes painful to watch. Rick Baker did a really great job with the retro style makeup for this adding to the fun & camp!

I enjoyed the movie more than most as it reminded me of the 1979 version of "Dracula" with Frank Langella which I think is the best Dracula film ever made. Good pacing and good acting although I did think Del Toro was somewhat out of place. I liked the homage it paid to the original film with Lon Chaney. Not as bloody as I was led to believe. Interesting twist with the father but fight scene was somewhat ridiculous. Overall I enjoyed it, would recommed it and would see it again. Hugo Weaving was surprisingly good.

This flick delivers on many levels. The photography and locations are cold & morbid, with great attention 2 detail. The Wolfman attacks are intense, very bloody and frequent. An attack on a Gypsy camp is comparable to Saving Private Ryan, with gore & dismemberment everywhere!
Story is better than average, with some cool twists. Del Toros' acting is ok, while Hopkins & Blunt turn in great performances.
Moves at a great pace & never boring. Considering how lame most remakes are these days, this film deserves some props for not casting a bunch of teens and not holding back on the gore. Well done!

The movie was pretty so-so. It had a big enough budget to have some stunning visuals and some nice gore, but it lacked any interesting story. It tried to be Coppola's Dracula, but unlike that movie, it's characters and story were very 2-d and the love story was lame. I jumped out of my seat a few times, but on the whole the movie was not a compelling mystery drama. Overall: C

This was a clever remake of the classic. Anthony Hopkins really saves this movie in a lot of the "dull" moments. My girlfriend who never gets scared actually got scared during this movie. Great date movie! Entertaining and does have a bit of a message about our inner darkness. Benicio del Toro was great and Emily Blunt, who I previously disliked, earned my respect. Definitely watch it now, don't wait for the DVD. It mandates a theatre experience.

My husband and I went to this and I was hoping to be startled at least a little bit. It was a disappointment to see that they wasted their money on bad computer effects that could have simply been done with special effects make up. And then when it became father against son, the cheese factor was so beyond what I was looking for in a horror movie that my attention span was lost. Overall, yes it was entertaining but if you want to be frightened out of your seat, don't bother.

not a big werewolf fan, but am a fan of the original horror classics. I was impressed that they kept the wolf close to the original Lon Chaney, Jr. wolf yet with modern features. Am a big fan of Anthony Hopkins and he did not disappoint.

We both really had a great ride watching this film. The startling swiffness of the wolfman took us by surprise as well as the twist at the end when Lawrence's father was the cause of his mother's death and his predicament as well. Not high art, but very entertaining.

This movie was excellent. The actors and actresses did a phenomenal job portraying their characters. The story was written brilliantly and reminded me of the the older movie by the same title. The scare tactics had me jumping out of my seat and the special effects were incredible. I have not stopped talking about the movie since leaving the theater and have recommended it to all of my family and friends!

The only way you would find this movie interesting is if you have never seen a movie about a werewolf. Take a close look at the list of actors and you'll be impressed. Not too familiar with the earlier Wolfam stuff and initially I was not interested in seeing this movie. However, I took a chance and I'm glad I did! I think they did a good job of creating a solid story around the Wolfman legend, and dealing with the 'human-beast' dilemma in the process.

I wouldn't even recommend this movie as a rental. It was *okay* but not worth bothering if you've seen ANY other werewolf movie. It is sort of like American Werewolf in London. The effects were better given it's newer and we've come a long way in that department, but other than that, definitely not even worth renting. My belief is this will appeal to the younger generation, maybe, only because they are less likely to have seen maybe the older movies that might look cheesy to them. I'm 36, so definitely not old, but have seen plenty of movies to compare.

It's hard not to like Anthony Hopkins, the classic suave, psychopathic, serial killer with a charming smile and wink of the eye. Lawrence war similar to Tristan in Legends of the Fall, the "prodigal son" returning home. The romantic aspects of the plot wore thin. I went to the the theater overall to enjoy the movie. My husband went with the idea that it should compare to the original with Lon Chaney Jr.
Overall it was really well done, the script and the effects. the casting and the cinematogpahy was well done. I liked that they didn't make it exactly like the original, especially the twist in the story, but my husband was upset about the twist.

Slow at times with dependence upon surprise action and gore to scare you. Watching the transformation from man to werewolf was cool. The ending had something to be desired. Loved it! The effects were awesome, the story was good, casting was excellent! The ending was a little cheesy, but overall a great movie!

I still wanted to see this movie even after most of the critics tore it up. In the end, you either go with them or make your own decision. I enjoyed it very much. It had atmosphere, the performances were good and the events taking place were not isolated to a few individual like some horror movies are. I find it more realistic and interesting when town folk and in this case the whole of London was aware of the creature. Some critics hyped the gore but my wife and I didn't think it was any more gory than other similar movies.

I had high hopes for this movie, as I grew up on classic B/W horror flix like the Wolfman, Mummy, Frankenstein, etc. But this version had minimal plot to follow and the plot that existed was even a little confusing. The movie generated no feelings for any of the characters, and I couldn't figure out why one of the main characters was in it at all. Lon Chaney, Jr.'s characterization of the angst-ridden wolfman was head-and-shoulders above del Toro's. I love B films, and enjoy a good bad-movie. This movie was a bad bad-movie and relied too heavily on mediocre effects and audio for surprise. Regardless, Hopkins and Weaving were fun to watch. Del Toro and Emily Blunt were fair at best.
