I went into this movie with low expectations and it lived up to them.
I would have given this movie 1 star, but the set design and art direction were well done.
The writing in this movie was both cliche and just plain dumb. I almost started laughing at certain points in the movie, because of some of the lines were so overly dramatic.
This movie also suffered from not knowing if it was going to embrace the full camp that the original movies did, or go more serious.
I have one word for the writers/director/editor, "clarity". There were times when I said to myself, that line was far too ambiguous for anyone to understand.
Bottom line: I wouldn't even recommend it as a rental.

The cast and crew of this movie must have realized the inevitable comparisons that would ensue upon viewing. Still, they trudge ahead with the weakest of scripts, underdeveloped characterizations and absent plot.
It is a shame that major talents like Hopkins, Del Toro and Blunt would deign to be party to this throwaway film.
Special effects were top-notched and served what little story there was. Set design was mystifyingly unkempt without context.

I enjoyed the movie. B. Del Toro pulled off the American accent pretty well. He was looking pretty sexy, too. E. Blunt's character wasn't a whiney woman in distress & I appreciated that. As always, Hopkins was an impeccable bad guy. Let's not forget Hugo Weaving. Nice to see him outside The Matrix series.

I found the first half of the movie to be more fulfilling than the second part. I'm a big werewolf buff so I expected more out of that side of the story but found the 'human' characters in the 'buildup' more compelling than the CGI laden over-the-top finale. The movie is slow, and one might go to sleep. They do put little "wakers" in at times to startle you. The filming location was a good choice, but the Talbout home was too dark for my taste.
Mr. Del Toro gave a excellent performance, much better than Mr. Hopkins.
Overall, I would not make this my first choice if picking movies for the evening. Wait until it comes out on DVD.

The story is the story...there isnt much to it. The movie is worth seeing though, I found myself completely engrossed in it. Im not usually attraced to blood and guts (and this movie has a lot of blood) but the special fx alone kept me interested. The music is by Danny Elfman, and although it is overwhelming at times, it really drives the movie. Emily Blunt is stunning, Benecio and Anthony have great chemistry. I'd see it again.

This was quite loyal to the original Lon Chaney film, the Wolfman looked very similar to Lons werewolf. I think I even saw a subtle nod to American werewolf in london.
I found the movie to be very loyal to the original movie with bumbling doctors and alot of simple and corny dialogue. Easy to follow story with some decent action and one starltling scene that gave me goosebumps from head to toe.
The movie was loyal to the classic, but the horror / gore was definately from 2010!

This movie could have been so much better. The makeup was excellent and the transformation scenes were really good. In fact, the film was really good when the werewolves were on screen. The movie was good, but not really as I had expected with such a great cast. I think everyone knows the basic storyline, so there is no suspense there. I did like the transitions into the Wolfman, but they too could not compare to American Werewolf in London. Anthony is his usual creepy, excellent character. Benito is good, not great. Big fan of his but not his best work, IMO. The sets are fantastic, especially inside Tolbert castle. Good movie! Anthony hopkins and benicio del torro were amazing! I'm a big fan of this tale and I injoined it sticking to the original story. It wasn't too long not too short. I too was a little disappointed with this movie. The acting was great but the story line was pretty lame and predictable. There were a lot of scenes that make you jump but that was the extent of the entertainment. I'm a big fan of Anthony Hopkins and am really surprised he would sign on for such a cheesy film. With today's technology they could have really made the werewolf(s) look a lot scarier too. Anyway, it's worth watching on TV if you have nothing else to do, but I wouldn't spend money to see it in a theater.

Great cast in such a bad movie. I was expecting more, the makeup is amazing and the man-wolf transformation is awesome but the movie is missing direction, dialogue, action... everything.

For me it was just OK. It lacked. I wanted to see the Hopkins-Del Toro duo acting and well, that's it. Can't say much except I expected more.

I am a HUGE fan of the old Universal Monsters cinema. The Wolfman, Dracula and Frankenstien. I thought this to be a wonderful and delightful story that stuck close to the original. I wished the ending had been a bit more prolonged. I loved the special effects which gave this a modern appeal. I hope they drag Bela lagosi out for an ORIGINAL REPRO Dracula... and an Original Frankenstien. I also hope for a Nosferatu with CLASS and not so many Hollywood theatrics. If your a fan of Universal I dont think you will be disappointed in this film.
