Ok, real men can like "chick flic's". As we sat down I was noticing 99 out of every 100 people coming in the theatre were women! But too late, I was already seated. And am I glad I was!! I grew up in the ABBA days of Disco, and loved it then, but Meryll Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan all give new meaning to FUN, FUN, FUN. I laughed, I cried, and literally wore a hole in the floor tapping my foot! Out of five stars it deserves six! (Maybe that's why we went out this morning and bought the CD score!) Even John Wayne would have loved it! (And Clint Eastwood as well!)

Good times and good tunes! Meryl Streep was terrific (as usual) and her sidekicks were also great. The three dads were well-cast. It was perfect that Brosnan wasn't a great singer, whereas Meryl was quite talented. I predict a dramatic increase in Greek tourism!!!!

My friend said it best, this is a high school musical. None of the actors seemed to be concerned about their 'reputation'; but simply about having fun. This movie was just that, fun. Yes, Meryl Streep was 'too old' to be believable as a 41 year old, but that didn't matter - she did a great job. Besides who goes to movies to find reality? If so, I really doubt you would see a village full of people suddenly break into song and dance on the docks. All and all, a great movie, good cast interaction and not too horrible for non singers.

The movie was just as great as the stage performance. More can be done in movies than on stage and it excelled. Pierce Brosnan played a great Sam, but his singing has much to be desired. Can be easily overlooked though. The rest of the cast is superb. Meryl Streep should get an Oscar nom for her portrayal of Donna. Best soundtrack ever for a movie. Uplifting and upbeat. I would recommend this movie to anyone wanting to feel good. The scenery was fantastic.

I went to the first show yesterday (7/19), and even though it was before 12noon, the house was packed! Great movie, great concept, lots of humor, and the setting was beautiful. It's worth it just to see Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan singing together (SOS). I never pictured either of them in a musical, but... it works!

I've seen Mamma Mia 3 times on Broadway and no one can compare to Meryl Streep's performance in the movie! It was so uplifting and spunky. Go see it as a "girl's night out" or mother/daughter date, as my husband felt that the estrogen level was a little much for him!

Like Across the Universe, it just seemed a little forced when these famous songs would spring from the mouths of the characters. An outstanding moment was "The Winner Takes it All" sung by Meryl. Just amazing. A low moment was Pierce Brosnan singing. I know that actors like to sing, but maybe not. Julie Walters "Take a Chance on Me" and Christine Baranski's "does your Mother Know" were particularly entertaining.

As always, Meryl Streep shines in this film. She is more over-th-top than usual, but it seems to work. Who knew she had such a golden singing voice?. Biggest surprise was Baransky... She almost stole the movie. This was the closest I was going to get to see Mamma Mia (having missed it on B'way). Those great ABBA tunes will never die!

What an uplifting, enjoyable, well-done production! The entire cast was just wonderful, and we continue to be amazed and pleased with Meryl Streep's breadth of talent and ability. The casting could have been better. I would love to have seen Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis in this movie. The singing wasn't very good and sometimes just plain laughable. Don't buy the soundtrack, buy some real Abba music. As far as movies showcasing Abba go, I'd recommend Muriel's Wedding over this one.

Opa! is a Greek exclamation used to express joy, approval, or encouragement. It's the most appropriate way to recommend this delight of a film. I don't want to make it more than it is, but as a movie it provides a couple hours of pure exuberance. The women, by the way, get better reviews than the men. Meryl Streep is operatic in the role, and carries off a touching and emotional rendition of her role in what could have just ended up as so much fluff. Don't think, don't analyze, just go and enjoy!

I loved the sights of the movie. The breathtaking views of Greece were reason enough to see it. Meryl Streep did a fantastic job, and looked so good! I was smiling the entire time.

All my expectations were met in this fun filled musical representing great ABBA songs. Scenery of Greece is fantastic and watching Meryl Streep go wild is quite a different role for her. Make sure you stay seated through the credits.
