The special effects of the movie were superb. All of the rumors that this was a movie to bash the Catholic Church were put to rest (I am Catholic). I felt they protrayed the Church as a human institution that has its flaws and also has its own rituals that are not understood due to the secrecy. The movie is supenseful. It does deviate from the book somewhat, but nothing that I felt was enough to make me upset.

Entertaining, but a few holes in the movie. Cardinal magically appears in crowded St. Peters Square....nobody noticed a black dude w/punctured lungs until he had dropped enough blood to "dirty" a doll 10 feet away....not happening. Still entertaining though.

I waited for this movie to come out since I read the book and did the actual tour in Rome 2007. Imagine my disappointment when the movie is nothing like the book. From beginning to end everything was changed! The lines where switched from Olivetti (who is CAPTAIN of the SWISS GUARD in the book) to Rocher (the second in command) Many names were changed. They removed the entire first 100 or so pages dealing with CERN and the antimatter. This was what made me read the book. Removing Kohler was the worst thing to do. He was very important in the book. I would say this was the worst book turned movie I have ever seen. Very Poor job and I am shocked Dan Brown allowed his book to be turned to garbage like this.

I too would give this movie only a half a star, if possible. As a Dan Brown fan, I expected a lot from this movie.
I can't even begin to describe how disappointing I found the movie. The C.E.R.N. angle was almost completely eliminated. The end of the movie was changed from the novel (and not for the better). There were key relationships that were changed or omitted (for unknown reasons).
The only piece of the movie that even came close to meeting my expectations was the explosion of the antimatter.
If you have read the book, I would NOT recommend the movie. If you have not read the book, I would recommend reading it instead.

I appreciated the gorgeous works of art and historical facts regarding the Catholic Church and the Illuminati as much as the plot. Although CERN is real, the bit about the antimatter's ability to level Vatican City was more than a bit of a stretch. Special effects and camerawork were good. I was a bit disappointed that the villian here just didn't evoke the same sense of menace as the albino in the DaVinci Code.

I was disappointed in the story line changes that were made. The book was a pager-turner. The movie just made you yawn. When you get down to it, Ron Howard will never disappoint, nor can he as far as I'm concerned. The movie zips by in a flash. The entire cast was wonderful. While the storyline is a bit far fetched, it clearly demonstrates the age old religion versus science controversy. This entertaining movie is in constant motion having the viewer at the edge of his seat diverting his attention away from the weak storyline. While Hanks' performance was very good, as in, he played Langdon as Langdon was supposed to be played, it wasn't his typical memorable performance obviously limited by the storyline.
The costume and production design is superb, complimenting the action in the film.
All in all, a very entertaining engaging film with a few surprises.

I read the book and finished it about 2 weeks before I saw the movie. They left so much out from the book. Half of the ending which was very inportant in the book wasn't even in the movie. They left characters out and there was way deeper explanation of the illuminati in the book. Good movie, but do one or the other; only see the movie or only ready the book.

My girlfriend and I went to the movie last night. I have read the book, she has not. I left the theater a bit disappointed, she could not stop talking about how much she enjoyed it. I loved the book, and the movie was barely a shell of it. I would have enjoyed the movie much more had I not read the book. The biggest disappointment was the lack of emotion from Vetra due to the entire first part of the book being left completely out of the movie.
It was rushed and left out so much of the story line had my gf not enjoyed it so much, It would have been a waste of a ticket. If you loved the book, you will be disappointed. If you have not read the book you still have hope.

First off - I would like to say that there are certain parts of the movie that are "entertaining". However the majority of the story is very slow, methodical, and down right boring. My wife and I went to see this movie. She had read the book prior, stated several areas were largely changed from that in the book, and some skipped totally. It's unfortunate a book has to be chopped up just to fit into a 2hr +/- period for a movie. Personally, I would prefer the "entire" content carried over into the movie (maybe with a bathroom break intermission… ;-)). At any rate, it was a fairly decent movie, the acting was excellent, Ron Howard did an excellent job of directing, for whatever reason(s) did the movie the way he felt best, and obviously Dan Brown allowed the changes to the story that we see in the final version of the movie. All in all, a great movie, action packed, and kept you thinking (just like The DaVinci Code)!!!

Having read the book I was worried that the movie would not live up to it. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Great movie, amazingly made, wonderful soundtrack. Go, enjoy!

Spectacular scenery in Rome was dampened by poor plot/story flow. I love Tom Hanks, and thought his performance was strained (although much better hair than in da Vinci code). Zero chemistry between he and the leading lady. A preposterous ending. I didn't feel it was too long, just that the entire movie didn't pace well - with that said, if your a Dan Brown fan, it's worth seeing.

Brilliant casting of Ewan McGregor & Stellan Skarsgård. This film turned out to be less than "Da Vinci" for me from the philosophy "what if" aspect. I did enjoy the history from Galileo & Bernini to the Vatican. I'm all for educating in a fun way & this movie did that. Some gore was unneeded. We've gotta do this to get an audience? It’s hard to compare to "Da Vinci". One’s a mystery that makes you think "what if," while "A&D," is a mystery; period. I can't say more w/o giving away the end. The lure is learning art & history, and Ewan McGregor & Stellan Skarsgard, who, no matter what, rock. Tom Hanks & Ron Howard can do no wrong. W/ those 4, you know no matter how weak the story or other aspects of a film are, it's always gonna be a winner.

I was very happy with this movie, it represented itself well. The book & the movie are a little different, but this movie with Hanks, made the 2 hours + go by so fast & he was excellant. Go see this movie!
