Both of my kids loved this movie. The story line was very sweet and the dragons were adorable. Be warned, however, there are some scary parts for younger children. The ending "fight" frightened both of mine, but they still loved the movie.

While I had heard positive word of mouth for the movie, the Dreamworks logo tempered my expectations - even had they not been, however, they still would have been exceeded. I would not hesitate to call this the first Dreamworks animation which stands on the same level as Pixar's better films (and exceeds some of their weaker offerings). Some stumbles (the ending feels poorly paced and some minor characters are forgettable) can be forgiven by virtue of the sheer charm the main characters exude - Wall-E set a high bar for how much personality animators could give an unvoiced character, but Toothless meets that standard admirably. The flight sequences (which would make Miyazaki jealous) alone should justify the 3-D surcharge, but the movie as a whole is beautifully rendered, and definitely worth experiencing in 3-D.

saw this movie with grandson. Parallels were wonderful for adults. The main character resembled my grandson as well as his sensitive nature to all living things. I loved the ending especially with the teaching and learning tool this movie presented for both children and adults; to look at people and animals with disabiliites (or as I should say for accomplishments) in what they can do. My 6 year old boy and I went to see this movie, and we had an awesome time.
From beginning to end, this movie was pure fun....I did have a bit of a headache at the end, and I do not know if it was the 3D effect on my eyes, but as a children's movie goes, this one was excellent!

I brought my 10-yr-old niece to see this in 3D and we both really enjoyed it. The detail was amazing (you could see the vikings' arm hair!) and the story line kept us both interested. Could be scary for some younger children, but it was great for older children and adults alike. This is the first 3D movie I'd seen and I was expecting something like the theme parks where it looks like things are flying toward you, but that wasn't the case - it just seemed like we were watching live.

This is one of the best animated movies I believe I've ever seen. I thought it was even better than Up! Great story line and the dialog will keep both adults and children entertained. We saw this in 3D and I love the latest trend to have the 3D experience emmerse you in the movie. No objects jumping out of the screen or flying at the audience. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie as a family experience.

My husband and I went with our 13 and 7 yo daughters (my 6mo old was there too but sleeping). Everyone enjoyed it a great deal. The movie was well done and as much fun for the grown-ups as the kids. Any movie with Vikings and Dragons is going to have some violence and fighting, but yay for learning to co-exist!!

I saw this movie with my daughter (10) and we both really enjoyed it. There's a few pretty scary bits, but otherwise it was appropriate for a wide age range. The plot has some engaging twists and the main characters are complex and sometimes surprising (although a couple of supporting characters are one-dimensional stereotypes). There's a strong message about persevering through adversity and being true to yourself instead of giving in to peer pressure. Finally, the flight animation is fantastic - this is a movie that definitely should be seen in 3D

My son (age 10) & I loved the 3D effect & awesome graphics to this movie, along with the wonderful story line. What started out as a young dissapointed boy eager to make his Dad proud turned out for a very happy ending. We hope there is a part 2. Great movie for all ages!

I expected the movie to be okay. Decided to see it in 3D with my kids and nieces opening weekend. 3D was a nice touch but it was secondary to the story. I thought it might be a nice 1 1/2 adventure but was surprised that the story kept not only the kids (ages 3, 5, and 8), but also myself and my wife greatly entertained. Not to be missed.

This movie was great! Took my 8 year old stepdaughter to see it on Saturday and we were thrilled with it. I loved the characters and their interactions with each other. It was especially wonderful to see the relationship between the main character and his father. This was not the typical abusive/absent Hollywood dad. This guy really cared about his son, but had communication problems. Their reconciliation was a wonderful cap to a fun movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Saw the 3D version yesterday. As one would expect from a Dreamworks movie, the animation was top notch. The 3D effects were amazing. Highly recommend this movie, but not for small children.

I don't go to see very many movies in the theaters any more, but my grandson wanted to see this one. We went to the 3D version, and other than it not being calibrated properly at first, the new 3D worked great after they fixed it.
The movie itself had a great storyline, the characters were interesting and the overall execution was unbelievable. We have already agreed to go back and see this again next weekend. Well spent money and time.
