Went to see this movie with not too high of expectations but was fantastically surprised by how well it was animated and how wonderfully the story was written. Seeing the movie in 3D was definitely the highlight for sure some of the scenes made you feel like you were there in the movie! This will for sure be in my collection!

Definitely see this movie in 3-D -- I think its use of 3D is better than Avatar. The flying scenes, the wind and an amazing ash effect toward the end of the movie were breath-taking. The story is funny and sweet, the dialogue very hip and real. It's uncanny to me how they can make animated figures convey so much emotion in their faces. My 21-year-old son and I both LOVED it. Definitely a must-see (although don't bring children under 7 or 8; some of the scenes are intense and more so because of the 3-D; two very young children had to be taken out of the theatre crying when we saw it)

It was my first 3D movie, and I really liked it when the ashes looked like they were coming out of the screen! I liked it when Hick-up was learning to ride a dragon and when he saw the dragon's nest. It was exciting!

This movie was great fun for both younger audiences and mature, adult folks. The dialog was modern, even tho the environment was set in ancient times. Not a boring movie, but a colorful, playful and intelligent romp with Vikings and a "nerd" child who must change the way things are.

On a spontaneous whim I took my 8 year old son and 10 year old daughter to see this and although they had been wanting to see this, they were even pleasently surprised! During the movie, my daughter leaned over to me and said, "mom this is better that what I expected!" The animation was incredible, one to definately see in 3D! Great message for kids to see that not everything is what it appears to be. We will definately be buying this one!

We brought our 9 year old to see this in 3D. He wasn't comfortable wearing the 3D glasses so watched without them and still enjoyed the movie. My husband and I wore the glasses and thought the 3D effects were fabulous. The movie is packed with action and good messages for kids, although when the Viking teens are being 'trained' to fight dragons I was thinking I didn't know of a parent who would put their child in such danger. But then, our village isn't constantly attacked by dragons, either. Overall lots of fun, fast moving, great 3D, no blood and gore.

2 girlfriends & I took our teens out for a girls' night & saw "How To Train Your Dragon." The movie was chosen by one of the other moms & I honestly didn't know anything about the theme, story, etc. I was pleasantly surprised! In fact, we all were...including our teens (who, by the way, are juniors in h.s.).
We chose to see this film in "Real 3-D" & I would highly recommend doing so, yourself. The computer animation is unbelievable (how far they've come) and the action sequences are far more exciting, realistic, thrilling & suspenseful in 3-D. However, I can say we will purchase this on DVD without hesitation...the animation is so well done, I don't think it will lose much when viewing it in our own home theatre.
Here is my one "warning"...and keep in mind I err on the side of caution: this is not a movie for little ones. I think many parents see the word "animated" and automatically think it will be "just fine" for their young children under the age of 6. This one is pretty intense...aka lots of potential for those prone to nightmares to have these sharp-toothed, fire-breathing "monsters" swirling around in their little heads.
However, lest I spoil the charming, poignantly written plot, I will say the lessons taught in this movie provide many a sigh of relief & several "Aw" moments which remove the "monster image" that is painted at the beginning of the movie.
We were surrounded by dozens of families who brought their young children and, to my knowledge, none left the theatre in tears. However, for me & my tender-hearted four year-old son with a huge imagination, I think we will wait a year or two, until we view this one with him.
But overall, I say go see it...especially in 3-D. And just use a little discression with your little ones.

Animation was great, and make good use of 3D technology. Most importantly, the movie does not fall prey to the technology and has a strong storyline with lovable characters. It's sort of weird to hear Vikings speak with Scottish accents but it works!

I am a graphic designer and illustrator so I usually go to see these movies with my son and enjoy them for the beautiful renderings in 3D and the stories are usually written to entertain both adults and children, so usually my 11 year old son and I have something to talk about afterward. This time, however, he was unusually quiet and when asked if he liked the movie he said the appropriate "It was cool". We went home and all he could say is that he wanted to buy this movie on DVD, still unusually, quiet about the film. It turns out that the movie had touched him in an emotional way and he was trying to figure out why and what he was feeling... long story-short: We talked and it was clear that he related to the main character so much that he "needed" to see it again and so we did! Two shows in one afternoon. He appreciated it and I realized that this movie told a great story about being on outsider in your own circles and when you're considered "different:" how that can affect you as a young person trying to come into his own. AMAZING movie great action and humor, cute dragons and a great story of a "different' kid who becomes a hero! What else do you need... and (very characteristically) it became our conversation for the rest of the night.

From beginning to end, this movie was perfectly created. The narration and plot to the character development and breathtaking flight scenes all contribute to this being a must see movie for any age. Children will love it because its got dragons, adults will love it because it makes you want to be those kids again, being in awe of dragons. Definitely the best movie I have seen this year, and one of the best computer animated movies ever made. See it in 3D or not wont make a difference in the great story, but 3D was definitely welcome when the flight and battle scenes took place.

This was bye far the best 3D movie of the year. Took two 10 year olds, they loved it. Little on the scary side, but not that much. Excelent, I'm 64 and I thought the 3D was great. We took two of our Grandsons, ages 4 & 5, and they loved it, the 4 year old said it was the best time of his life. The "scary" parts weren't all that scary and were appropriate for the movie and ages likely to attend. I would recomend it to anyone.

Too scary for very young kids, but wildly entertaining for older kids and adults. Just the right mix of good story, inside jokes, and stunning animation. I'm still amazed at the animator's ability to convey such "human" emotions just through "ones and zeros" and great vocal acting. Fun, rewarding, and worth seeing in 3D.

My boys are 7 and 4. Both loved the movie, but some parts scared the 4 year old. The effects were a bonus. I would recommend spending the extra $ for 3D.
The scary factor got 4 instead of 5 stars, otherwise, kids loved it.

Went and seen this movie yesterday with my niece and 2 of her friends it was a great movie, the kids really enjoyed it it kept them involved through out the entire movie. I would highly recommend it for kids and adults of all ages..

This is a great movie for all ages. Parents may enjoy it as much or more than the kids. Pixar will be put on notic with this feature. The animation is superb, and the 3-D can only be discribed as AMAZING.
